What a find! Finally it has its own bottle. If I’m looking for an oud base for my personal perfume, this is the one I choose, the same as in Loudo and Symphonium. It’s that Laos oud with just the right animal touch, balanced to be complex and addictive without being aggressive, but very rich. In Gold Spot there is a more marked gourmand twist than in Loudo; I love the other one, but I wouldn’t buy it due to the similarity. Mr Chris Maurice knows how to bring out the best in this base, he did it with Symphonium and Kemi de Kemi, but here he has really shone. The dry down is intoxicating, sweet, orange and addictive; it’s like an evolution of Symphonium towards something more complex and original. They get Loudo and Gold Spot right, but having both is redundant. I’m sticking with Gold Spot. Scent 9, Longevity 7, Projection 7, Recommended 8.

So many interpretations of this note flood the market, making what seems like a jewel to one person seem improper to another. This perfume has two facets: it tastes of excrement at first to transform into a chocolate and caramel gourmand that takes you on a journey from white flowers with animal touches to a dirty leather fur of oud. There is a disturbing and annoying side, probably due to the Laos oud that makes you think you’ve just cleaned a stable or went to the toilet without toilet paper. I respect it, but I don’t understand why so many praise this branch of oud as if dirty were synonymous with sexy. Fortunately, the scent stays stuck in the nasal cavity for only an hour, after which it tames itself and the floral and woody tonka note rises. It is a perfume with certain appeal if you get past the initial phase, wait for the dirty tone to subside before going out into the street without attracting suspicious looks and avoiding the neighbour looking at you strangely as you pass. Without this peculiar beginning, it would already be in my collection.

  • It is a fragrance with natural Laos oud, which gives it that animal touch. But the citrus and chocolate blend makes it super special, unique, deep and full of facets. If you are already into the world of oud and like gourmand perfumes, this is the one for you. It reminds me a lot of King Blue, even the Amouage one has a citrus touch. The only thing is that for my taste it doesn’t last very long and, given the price, I would lean towards other options with more projection. Although it is a very good perfume.

  • What a slap of oud the moment you spray it! 😅😂 I’m taking out vials daily, blind, what an exciting and nocturnal game, a way to stay awake for a couple more hours if the fragrance is intriguing enough… Faecal yet pleasurable, after Peach’s Revenge the night before… From heaven to earth, what is this? 😂 A winning oud/chocolate combo, rich, addictive, brazen and very suggestive. The dry down is celestial. Do I need it now? No, but I’m bookmarking it for the future.

Celestial. Do I need it now? No… but I’m bookmarking it for the future.

It created a bit of a conflict for me: it starts with a slightly faecal oud, right at the limit of what is bearable, before exploding into dark chocolate with butter caramel that smells like white chocolate. It has fresh and clean facets but keeps that sweet and animal edge. In short, it smells like ‘sweet bum’. It’s not a beast, but it’s worth trying on skin to feel its nuances.
