It’s an incense fragrance with an ecclesiastical or liturgical style. It fits well with CDG Avignon, Odin Tanoke or Heeley Cardinal, coming very close to the first one. The opening is floral-fruity and sweet, very pleasant but short-lived. Then, a strong cypress joins a generous yet light incense, with a balsamic and smoky effect. This cypress takes you from the church to an outdoor cloister surrounded by forest, in a natural and mountainous area, far from the city’s noise, conveying peace and quiet for meditation. The balsamic dry-down of the myrrh remains soft and skin-close, light and wearable. The longevity is good; it projects well for the first hour before settling down. Rating: 7.
One of the most peculiar scents I’ve ever tried. It’s not for everyone and requires a trained nose, but it offers a complete olfactory experience. I’m talking about La Liturgie des Heures by Jovoy. It smells exactly like the interior of an old, dark, and warm chapel or cathedral, filled with incense and candle smoke, mixed with the scent of aged wood from the pews and the red velvet of the altars. I adore fragrances that transport you, and this one does it perfectly.

The incense fades quickly to make way for cypress, lots of cypress. It’s not an easy fragrance; try before you buy. It’s only for lovers of the cypress note, which is the star here. It’s a damp forest of cypresses.

Comparing perfumes is difficult because each is unique, unless one is terrible and the other excellent. I don’t see why anyone would claim that Desert Heart is better or worse than Marley’s Layton. For me, The Liturgy of Heroes is the best I own. It features a fresh, clean opening with green notes, and after the first dry-down, it reveals an incense and myrrh that are impossible to confuse. I’m not an expert and sometimes can’t identify notes in other scents, but here the incense has soft, slightly dusty nuances, just like the myrrh. It projects for a metre and lasts at least ten hours on the skin. I’ve tried all the famous Jovoy scents; I love Psychedelic but it didn’t take me home. This is by far the best for me.

If you already own Avignon or Full Incense, this smells very similar; it feels redundant.
Full of wood and myrrh, but what dominates is an ecclesiastical incense from the very first second. It’s incredibly realistic, though I don’t see myself wearing it, nor would I on anyone else. It’s not sweet, resinous, or warm; it’s a dry woody opening that later becomes more humid. Clearly more masculine. The longevity on my skin is top-notch, but it simply isn’t for me.
