  I first entered Ormonde Jayne for their Man, which captures that countryside green and transports you to a bucolic place with lush pastures and rolling green hills. The original leaves you lying down, feeling the dew on the grass and playful spring light between your eyelids; it’s fresh, astringent, and very good… but Elixir is another level. Here, the concentration increases and they add a brutal Oud, and suddenly everything changes. Now you feel the grass crunching beneath you, with that freshness piercing through the fabric and staining with a green blood that won’t wash off. The last rays of sun announce the night, and just a few metres away, impenetrable trees stand guard over the forest where you sense something lurking. You realise your fragility and a shiver runs from your feet to your head. Ormonde Jayne Elixir is British class, elegance, and tidiness with a rogue touch; in my search for the perfect fragrance, it is essential and probably my favourite today. Half my collection isn’t worth what this is worth.

  If Royal Oud and Santal 33 had a child, this would be the result. It doesn’t smell like either of them, but anyone who tries it will understand. What a fragrance, what quality, and what richness!
