Sideris by Maria Candida Gentile is an aromatic spicy fragrance from the olfactive family, created for men and women. Launched in 2009, this composition was designed by nose Maria Candida Gentile. The olfactive pyramid opens with top notes of incense, myrrh, saffron, French labdanum, and pepper; the heart reveals ravintsara and rose; while the base settles on beeswax, benzoin, woody notes, and sandalwood.

First, the note list needs correcting as Fragrantica gets several perfumes wrong. Top notes: frankincense, cistus, myrrh, white pepper and saffron. Heart: Turkish rose and Ayrshire Splendens. Base: sandalwood, benzoin and beeswax. It smells very spicy and balsamic; the frankincense and rose heart make it unique. You can tell how natural it is and the quality of the blend. As it dries down, it smells of beeswax, perhaps due to the benzoin which also hints at vanilla, even though the official María Candida website doesn’t mention it. On the skin it seems to last a short while, but if you wear it, you’ll notice it lasts longer. The projection is high at first, then becomes moderate. It suits cold weather better and, although unisex, I find it more feminine. Definitely worth trying before buying blindly, as it’s not for everyone.
