Soul Of My Soul by Etat Libre d'Orange is a spicy oriental fragrance for men and women. Launched in 2020, this composition features an olfactory pyramid that opens with top notes of incense, bergamot, and pink pepper; evolves into a heart of suede, iris root, and rose; and settles on a base of Australian sandalwood, musk, Madagascar vanilla, benzoin, and tonka bean.

It seems very sexy; on my skin, it evolves beautifully. It smells powdery but features a soft, cosy wood note that stands out. It’s not annoying. I wore it to an informal dinner with friends, and everyone praised it—I thought it would go unnoticed. It’s one of the perfumes I want in my collection for the colder months. I think it works very well for evening wear.
I bought it blindly because I’m a fan of the collection. I consider 500 Years, Spices Must Flow, and especially Experimentum Crucis to be exceptional perfumes that have gone unnoticed. Well, this one is nowhere near their level. I think it’s poorly executed because it smells very abstract—a strange mishmash of notes creating an indescribable aroma. It’s a metallic powdery blast with smoky touches. It sounds too synthetic to me. The price is far too high for what it offers. I wouldn’t recommend it at all.
It’s a powdery scent that I enjoy; the suede and rose create that effect. I detect vanilla, musk, and a distant hint of incense. I’d highlight that, unlike other citrus notes I usually dislike, the bergamot here is pleasant and blends well. However, I’ve smelled similar fragrances, so it doesn’t feel very original to me. If you like powdery scents, Putain des palaces from the same house is a better option.
ELDO always surprises, and this is no exception. I’m not a rose fan, but I adore this one. It opens with talc and something synthetic, yet it’s not unpleasant. Then comes a sweet rose with sandalwood that doesn’t smell briny, a hint of musk, and barely perceptible vanilla. While I like it, I don’t think it justifies the standard price; better to look for a discount. I picked it up for $120 at Fragrancenet.
Smells odd at first, like a synthetic musk reminiscent of Alaia, but it fades quickly to reveal a creamy bergamot that brings to mind Danish pastries. It’s not gourmand; it’s clean, like Dove soap with a citrus twist. In the dry down, there are oily woods, dusty leather, and a trail of vanilla and benzoin. It smells like baby skin—velvety and sweet—perfect for chilly days. Not something to wear daily, but ideal for curling up under a blanket.
