Forget citrus and freshness. Here, there is only powdery iris and oakmoss. The longevity, projection, and sillage are above average. Do not buy it blind. If I had to find a similar scent, I’d go for Roja Dove’s Oceania for that deep iris, although the latter is fresher. To those who say it smells like Black Sea, they are nothing alike; they don’t even share notes.

It has absolutely nothing of fresh and citrusy. Here there is only very powdery iris and oakmoss. It isn’t for me. The longevity, projection, and trail are above average. Do not buy blindly. If I had to lean towards a similarity, I’d go for Oceania by Roja Dove for that deep iris, although the latter is fresher. By the way, those who say it resembles Black Sea… it doesn’t resemble it at all, I don’t think they share a single note.

Navacerrada83 You’ve given me a joy by saying it has some of Oceania because I love it, but the price is too high for me. Besides, I love Francesca and I have two of her. I’m going blind for Mariner’s. Thanks.

  • More than a perfume, it’s an olfactory journey. It starts super citrusy with a rare touch of elemi, grapefruit, and lavender. Then comes the fresh, floral orange blossom. What really grabs me is the ozonic quality; for me, it’s marine and salty. It brings back memories of the beach, a red swimsuit, family, and close friends. It smells fantastic, isn’t overwhelming, and is perfect for any gender. It doesn’t smell like anything else in my collection, although I may have sniffed something similar before. Do I love it? Not entirely, but I like what it makes me feel. Don’t buy it blind; like Bianchi’s scents, it requires knowing how to wear it. Give it a try; I definitely recommend it 💙

  • More than a perfume, it is an experience, an olfactory journey. The opening is very citrusy with a rare touch of elemi. Grapefruit and lavender add to the fusion. In the development, you appreciate the fresh, white floral side of neroli. What prevails is the ozonic part: marine, salty. It transports me to my childhood, adolescence, trips to the beach in a red swimsuit, my family and my mates, the sea and the breakwater. It has great performance and isn’t overwhelming. I feel it is perfectly unisex. It doesn’t remind me of any other in my collection. Do I love it? No. But I like what it makes me feel. It isn’t for impulsive buying. I think, like all of Bianchi’s, understanding them is arduous. Try it, that is recommended.

For me, this perfume slightly reminds me of Etruscan Water, but being Marine a summery, lighter version with more modern accords. It is pleasant, clean, and suitable for all types of use; the good thing is that it isn’t the typical perfume. In terms of longevity and projection, it does well, lasting its 8-10 hours, but it isn’t as of a bomb as Etruscan. Etruscan is the big boss dad and Marine is the son at uni studying Social Work.

  • It is a peculiar perfume, like all of Francesca’s. NONE of her fragrances are for blind buying. That said, Mariner’s Rhyme smells like a mermaid, or at least how I imagine a mermaid or a triton would smell. It smells marine, of sea salt, thanks to those ozonic notes mixed with elemi. The iris and citrus, in a not obvious way, favour that fresh and youthful touch. Then the moss adds an earthy touch that reminds me of algae, turning it into the scent of a magical ocean creature. Do I like it? I don’t know if yes or no, it happens with Francesca. What I do know is that I like having tested it. It is an enriching and interesting olfactory experience; I recommend a sample and then tell me what you feel. That is the magic.

  • At first, I notice a resemblance to Etruscan Water, but the base is similar and more aquatic and ozonic in Mariner’s Rhyme. It is fresher; there is always that earthy part, but less prominent, with citrus, resins, and above all an iris that smells refreshing and hydrated, nothing creamy or lipstick-like. That, together with the aldehydic accord, makes it more bearable than Etruscan Water. The moss isn’t highlighted as much. Less in winter and with the heat, it can be worn all year round. It is versatile, not as heavy as others from the house. I wouldn’t buy it, but it performs well (more than 8 hours) and I’ll keep testing it.

  • Reading the reviews, I notice some compare it to Etruscan Water, but since I don’t have it, I’ll hold my opinion. What I do see as similar is Phtaloblue by Tauer Perfumes; at the start, they are very alike. At first, it smells like a freshly ironed shirt and has a typical salty touch from the marine DNA of niche houses. Although it is marine, I don’t see it as summery, but rather spring-like or for cloudy days. It is an easy perfume (if you like marines) and doesn’t bother others. It’s not for seeking compliments. Its proposal isn’t innovative; it seems like a gift for lovers of the sea.

So far, I haven’t got on with Francesca; out of all the blind tests, none have won me over. I know I might be going against the grain: many adore Francesca Bianchi for her resinous, animalic, and spicy fragrances, but so far, nothing aquatic or synthetic. The Mariner’s Rhyme changes the rhyme. For me, The Mariner’s Rhyme starts with dry, dusty iris, contrasting with a synthetic aquatic note of aldehydes and almost post-apocalyptic scents. These aldehydes are refreshing in other chypres, but here they are shrill and deep. Then, it smells like stagnant water under an inflatable boat on a hot day, that rubber plastic that withstands the sun. The iris soaked with something like chloro gives a note almost like cinnamon, and the aldehydes vibrate with a hint of anise. The acidic accents of bergamot and grapefruit make it even more brash. The result is an artificial mix of plastic, sunscreen, and chlorinated water that is impressive. It is Bianchi’s art, but it is art with which I have nothing to do.

I didn’t think I’d buy anything from this perfumer again. At first, Francesca was my toxic love: she captivated and seduced me, but when it dried down, it overwhelmed and suffocated me. Until I met this one. I sprayed it with disbelief and… what a more aquatic, vibrant, and sensual opening! Powerful beyond measure, it clothes you from head to toe. But the toxic love returns: the dry down doesn’t make me want to breathe, it invades me. It’s a chypre dry down that takes over my entire space. It’s as if a man I don’t like hugged me and left his perfume mixed with his sweat on a hot summer night.

Until I found this one. I tested it with disbelief and… what a vibrant, sensual aquatic escape! It’s powerful, it soaks you from head to toe, pure magnetism. • Buy it blind because my trusted perfumer offered a massive discount and I absolutely loved it. The grapefruit citrus is very noticeable, which I adore, and it has a spectacular ozonic touch with an impressive sillage and eternal longevity. I can’t wait to try everything this creator has made.
