This fragrance is the domestic version of Miguel Matos’s TAR: less balsamic and more gourmand. It opens with an unofficial licorice-alcohol burst that fades in two minutes, leaving soft leather and plum with that typical FB sexuality. It’s the least challenging scent from the brand, but that doesn’t make it bad; it’s the perfect gateway into the niche universe.
Francesca Bianchi remains my favourite perfumer, especially with her early bombas like The Lover’s Tale. However, with Voluptuous Oud, I feel she’s trying to boost sales with something more commercial and soft. It smells great: caramelised woody, talc-like, with her special leather note, yet too conventional. The liquorish, citrus, sweet opening with an animalic oud touch seduced me, but it was an illusion; it quickly turns into Divine Perversion with raspberry swapped for oud. It lasts about 15 minutes and, given the price, isn’t worth the investment if you already own DP. A new pass that hurts because I’m still waiting for her next gem.
Francesca Bianchi has been my favourite perfumer and brand since her early bombas collections. With Voluptuous Oud, I sense she’s aiming for mainstream and commercial tastes. It smells good: caramelised woody, talc-like, with her signature leather, but it’s a conventional scent. The liquorish, citrus, sweet opening with an animalic oud note deceived me; it seemed risky but soon loses intensity and becomes identical to Divine Perversion, just with oud instead of raspberry. It lasts 15 minutes and isn’t worth it if you already have DP. It’s a new pass that pains me as I continue waiting for her next great fragrance.
Voluptus Oud is very tasty and wearable. It opens with mandarin and Cambodian oud; the oud is animalic up close but balanced in the air, reminiscent of Oud for Happiness. As it dries down (6-7 hours), leather dominates with a vibrating caramel note like Babycat. Projection is medium and longevity on skin is over 8 hours. I was surprised by how well it smells and it’s a great option for entering the niche or getting to know Francesca.
