Vanilla with a boozy rum note. Then the chocolateed patchouli comes out in the dry down. Good performance; it projects well for the first two hours and lasts around eight hours. Very tasty and can be bought blind.
This engages all the senses; I feel my mouth watering every time I detect it. It’s fascinating to feel scents that impact your very being. Today I don’t say ‘I’m applying’ Van Py Rhum, but rather ‘I fancy it’. It has been a pleasure to meet it; out of so many perfumes tasted, this one made me close my eyes and inhale right to the bottom of its heart. My wife made me happy with this gift. Pity I can’t describe it better; it’s a creamy, boozy, well-balanced gourmand, exquisite.
Smells great and very pleasant, but I can’t see myself wearing it. It’s a sweet, potent vanilla with an oud base. It’s like smelling a dessert; the vanilla is buzzing with energy. However, I don’t see myself using it anywhere; I wouldn’t want to smell like that. I’m not saying I dislike it—it performs like a beast, lasting all day. Just for cold occasions, perhaps at home.
Contrary to what they say, it’s a heavy fragrance. Personally, I don’t like oud. That oud at the end is heavy and nauseating; if you sweat a bit, forget about your sense of smell. It projects like a beast. I haven’t noticed much vanilla. It highlights the patchouli and oud too much. The caramel and rum thing is not even in the name. For the love of God, buy a decant, don’t buy blind. I’d say this is for ages 24 and up; it has character and you need guts to wear it. It’s not for day-to-day use and you get more out of it in winter than in summer (a nasty bomb). I haven’t liked it much, but maybe with time I’ll like it more.
Contrary to what they say, it’s a heavy fragrance. Personally, I don’t like oud; that here is heavy and nauseating. If you sweat a bit, forget about your sense of smell: it projects like a beast. I haven’t noticed the vanilla; it highlights the patchouli and oud too much. There’s no caramel or rum as the name suggests. For the love of God, buy a decant, don’t buy blindly. I’d say it’s for 24 years or older, it has character, and you need guts to wear it. It’s not for daily life and yields more benefit in winter than summer (it’s an unpleasant bomb). I haven’t liked it much, but perhaps with the years I might start to like it more.
This is love at first sniff; the opening is like smelling straight into a bottle of rum. But does it smell only of rum? No, it has so much vanilla that I feel it like chocolate. A chocolateed rum with white flowers in the base. A very good scent; the bad thing is I think the same as another review: I can’t see an occasion to smell like rum, I feel people would say I’m drunk or that a bottle fell on me. A scent I liked, for personal enjoyment or depending on your personality. Edit: once dried, the rum intensity drops and it’s not so alcoholised.
This is love at first sniff: the opening smells straight like a bottle of rum. Just rum? No, it has so much vanilla I sense it as chocolate. It’s a chocolateed rum with white flowers in the background. A very good scent; the problem is that, as in another review, I can’t see an occasion to smell like rum. I’d be told I’m drunk or that a bottle has fallen on me. A scent I like for personal use or depending on the wearer’s personality, as it happens with any perfume with alcohol notes. Edit: as it dries down, the rum intensity drops and it’s no longer so boozy.
Extremely sweet and synthetic composition. I don’t doubt its performance, but it seemed like a graceless, shouting scent to me. Generally, the Lorenzo Pazzaglia perfumes I’ve tried seem very synthetic, lacking delicacy and charm. For now, I’m not much of this house.
Fifth fragrance in the Lorenzo Pazzaglia discovery set. I conclude they do masculines better than feminines, and all have a bit of a shouty, ‘horterilla’ vibe. They aren’t elegant, but punchy and attention-grabbing. The opening of Van Py Rhum smells like a whisky tart, sweet but super boozy. As the rum dissipates, a mentholated vanilla appears, like anise balls, with a mouldy, dusty touch from the patchouli. Although it’s dark, it leans more pirate than vampiric. Perfectly unisex, but I’d prefer it on a man. Sillage and longevity are quite good.
This is THE VANILLA from Lorenzo Pazzaglia for me. Of those tested, it’s the one I liked most and it performs the best. At first, the rum stands out, dark and very alcoholic, almost as if I’d poured a bottle over myself. I thought: potent, interesting… But it’s not something usual. However, I left the house and when I realised, I was wrapped in a wonderful, dark cloud of vanilla, with a hint of alcohol and more potent than Van Extasys. In reality, it doesn’t offer much more; I doubt if it’s worth spending a bottle if I already have other vanillas, but it tasted very good. It has a synthetic touch like almost all from the brand, but those using only natural extracts on me don’t last a whisper. Van Py Rhum held up well for its 8-9 hours with adequate projection (though not a beast like others from the brand). If you’re looking for caramelised, dark, versatile, and very pleasant vanilla, it could be a suitable option.
This is my favourite vanilla from Lorenzo Pazzaglia: the one I’ve liked most and the one that lasts longest. At first, on my skin, it smells like dark rum and very boozy, as if I’d poured a bottle over myself. I thought: potent, interesting, but not for daily wear. However, over time, it envelops me in a cloud of dark vanilla, with a boozy touch and more intense than Van Extasys. Although I’m not sure if it’s worth spending so much if I already have other vanillas, I must say I adored it. It has a synthetic edge, like most of the brand, but natural vanillas don’t last a minute for me. Van Py Rhum has lasted 8-9 hours with good projection (though I’m not a beast). If you’re looking for a dark, caramelised, versatile vanilla, this could be your option.
I tried the Van Phy Rum by Lorenzo and, unfortunately, it wasn’t to my liking. The blend of spicy and sweet notes felt somewhat overwhelming and failed to captivate me. The projection and longevity also weren’t what I expected, which made the overall experience disappointing. Even though some might find charm in it, for me it failed to resonate. I think there are other fragrances that suit my personal preferences better. In summary, I wouldn’t recommend the Van Phy Rum if you’re looking for something more balanced and pleasant.
I tried the Van Phy Rum by Lorenzo and, unfortunately, it didn’t appeal to me. The mix of spices and sweetness overwhelmed me and failed to captivate. Projection and longevity were also not as expected, making the experience disappointing. Others might love it, but it didn’t resonate with me. I think there are other fragrances that suit my tastes better. In short, I wouldn’t recommend it if you’re looking for something balanced and pleasant.
I was eager to try it for the name and notes. I imagined something sweet, dark, seductive, and mysterious, like a vampire. What a letdown: the opening is powerful rum and very marked earthy patchouli, and the vanilla… almost non-existent at skin level, absurd with five types of vanilla that don’t stand out. It might suit someone, but don’t be fooled by the notes. It’s more patchouli plus rum with a very faint vanilla base.
I had many expectations from the name and the notes. I imagined a sweet and dark, seductive and mysterious scent, like a vampire. What a disappointment: at first, there’s a very potent rum liquor and a very marked earthy patchouli, and the vanilla… totally overshadowed, almost non-existent at skin level, which is absurd considering it has five types of vanilla, but none stand out. It might suit someone, but I recommend not letting yourself be carried away by the described notes; this is more patchouli + rum with a very light vanilla base.
Where to start… I tried it several times and it did nothing special for me, but a customer offered it to me after 15 minutes and the evolution was spectacular. Opening is slightly animalic, like Perris Monte Carlo’s Vanille de Tahiti. At 15 minutes, rich, earthy, chocolatey patchouli with caramel, not cloying. Dry down: green patchouli, nothing old school, with a boozy fougere vibe and very tasty. Longevity: 8 hours in the Canaries. My skin is particular; not all long-lasting ones stick, but in Autumn/Winter or at 25 degrees or less, it performs very well.
Every nose is a world and pH changes everything. On my skin, it’s a dark, sweet chocolate with rum, lots of vanilla, and tonka bean. Nothing animalic or patchouly; it’s pure, cosy gourmand. I liked it, but it’s only a first impression. It lasts almost nothing on my skin, like other Pazzaglia fragrances except Evil Angel. It would surely last longer on clothes, but test before buying.
If it were just vanilla, it would be pure gold, but that mentholated liquor note steals the show. Within minutes, the vanilla evaporates, leaving you with rum and patchouli on the barest of notes.
Well, this is pure and hard liquor chocolate. I don’t dislike it, but I really expected something much more centred on vanilla; I was a bit disappointed that the liquor stood out so much, but if you’re looking for a boozy sweet, this is definitely for you and it’s a truly unique scent. Edit: one day you smell more vanilla and another day more chocolate, it’s bizarre but it’s rich regardless. Although I’d prefer it to be consistently vanilla (disappointed by the catfishing).
Gourmand bomb. The type of ‘vanilla’ scent found here is unique, but we could relate it to a Victoria Secret body splash vanilla, or the Van Extasys from this same brand; it also has a type of vanilla that evokes Bianco Latte by Giardini di Toscana. That kind of pastry-like vanilla is mixed with a very realistic and predominant rum in the opening, which makes this perfume darker. The first time I wore it, I went to the kitchen to find a bottle of rum to compare the aroma, and I was really surprised by how well that alcohol is rendered in this fragrance. Regarding longevity in my case, it’s about five to six hours, projecting very well for two hours. Recommended experience, it’s a great perfume made by a great artist.
Excellent perfume.
It’s a vanilla perfume, dark, chocolatey, and boozy, but not extremely sweet. The opening is intense with a rich rum that gradually fades in intensity to become a base note. The vanilla, patchouli, and white flowers balance it perfectly, making the dry-down a rich and addictive aroma. Perfect for night outings in cold climates.
At first, the vanilla is very noticeable along with a strong chocolate scent, which I didn’t expect; it’s a bit cloying, but as it dries down, other notes emerge like caramel, rum, and mentholated (which I think is the patchouli). The scent is strong, practically saturating the room, but it’s not unpleasant, and it leaves a very fresh sensation on the nose despite having so many vanilla notes. I imagine a mug of very rich hot chocolate, loaded with marshmallows and a decorative caramel stick. Definitely a winter fragrance.
How have I lived so long without this wonder? It wasn’t just love at first sniff, but I fall in love again every time I spray it. For me, so far, one of the best vanillas and possibly the best I own. In summary: RUM + VANILLA. Broadly speaking, that’s it; certainly, if you concentrate, you’ll smell some caramel or patchouli. But in general terms, it’s simply that: a very potent gourmand vanilla, elevated to maximum power thanks to the rum. You can tell the quality of the ingredients; it’s not a normal vanilla, light years away from any commercial or Arabian vanilla. Van Py Rhum uses the image of a bat (vampire) and I think it’s good marketing. If I had to stage it, I imagine a dark, bloodied, gothic, nocturnal vanilla. What I also assure is that it’s a compliment bomb, something you achieve with almost any gourmand, only here Lorenzo Pazzaglia shows the perfect balance between cloying and intoxicating. Scent 100,000/10, projection 8.5/10, trail 8.5/10, longevity 10/10.

It literally smells like Monogotas Vanilla gel from Mercadona. Nothing more. It smells nice, but nothing special to me. Depending on taste, I’d prefer other vanilla perfumes. For someone who likes a vanilla scent that’s easy, straightforward, and not too complex, it would be fine.
Serious review: it’s a proper perfume bomb, full stop. It’s not unisex or anything, it’s totally masculine. If you’re looking for something niche to party in and own the night, this is the place. It’s nocturnal and can be worn any time of year, though in summer only if you’re in a well-ventilated, air-conditioned spot; otherwise, you could kill someone.
I was keen to try it but it disappointed me a little. It’s certainly not a bad perfume, but it doesn’t quite deliver on the idea it tries to convey. I wouldn’t say it’s dark, seductive, or surprising. If you wore it in public, people might mistake it for a good vanilla shampoo or body cream; it’s not negative, just not up to scratch. Loads of vanilla that loses projection as it dries, but not like cheap vanilla, more like a high-end confectionery syrup or extract, not homemade. A very soft rum, as if you’d spilled a few drops of the glass and they dried on the table. Obviously not gourmand (at least for me), probably due to the oud or because neither the caramel nor the vanilla smells natural. I still like it, I just was looking for something darker and more elegant, not so simple and flat.
Absolutely beastly! I bought it blind and have no regrets whatsoever. It smells powerful, sweet, with a masculine edge. Although it does sit a bit flat, it’s by no means bad; it’s ideal for going out or dates, anyone would surely like it.
