It seems like, judging by its notes, it should be potent and dense, but quite the opposite: it’s soft, delicate, and super intimate. It reminds me of NU in how it handles the incense; here it’s not the star but is refined by the musk, whereas in NU it was the orchid doing that job. They don’t smell the same, but the execution is remarkably similar. At first, you catch a whiff of alcohol—probably the blend of musk and incense, which smells alcoholic but isn’t. Then it opens softly, sweet and balsamic, with a perfect balance between incense and musk that gives a smoky, dry, clean, and crystalline touch. Gradually it becomes warmer and resinous, with a resinous sweetness from the amber that warms the whole thing without losing that dryness. Then the oud enters; although it’s been there in the background from the start, it now shines in all its glory: woody, spiced, and balsamic, closing the circle. This is just the first hour; afterwards it becomes linear. It’s a soft, delicate fragrance, nothing invasive, ideal for enjoying on your own. The longevity is top-notch, I get 9 hours, though the projection is moderate due to its delicacy. It’s not great for lasting long in the air, but brilliant for its versatility: day or night, as long as it’s not too hot. Fragrantica says it smells like a softer Tuscan Leather, what a load of rubbish! Not even close. It’s an incense-style version of NU, but more balsamic and warm. In short, it’s a pretty fragrance, but to be honest, it’s not worth the price. I wouldn’t pay for it; there are better and cheaper options. D&G has gone too far with the arrogance.
Although its notes suggested it would be intense and opulent, it turns out to be soft, delicate, and very intimate. It sounds like NU by the style and how it works the incense: it doesn’t stand out alone but is refined with the musk, whereas in NU that role was played by the orchid. The scents aren’t similar, but they share that execution. At first, you notice a blast of alcohol, probably due to the mix of musk and incense; it smells like alcohol but isn’t. Once that passes, it opens soft, sweet, and balsamic, with a perfect balance between incense and musk that creates a smoky, dry, clean, and crystalline aroma. Gradually it becomes warmer and resinous, with a resinous sweetness from the amber that warms the whole thing without losing that dryness. I appreciate that you specify it isn’t worth the price, Darkbeat; without having tried it, I believe many of us perceive that ‘exclusive’ lines from designers like Dolce & Gabbana, Prada, or Carolina Herrera are nothing more than con artists jumping on the oud bandwagon. Oud with a dash of oud, half oud and a quarter of ‘exclusive’, and then ‘exclusive’ and lots of ‘exclusive’. There’s a saying that a woman who has to specify she’s a lady isn’t one; apply that to designer brands’ ultra-exclusive lines. They’re all clones, like gremlins reproducing endlessly, repeating the same pattern: bottles with galuchat or saffiano textures, thick glass, variations of a couple of notes, the oriental, the floral, the chopped oud, the amber, a nice cardboard box in urn style, as if protecting the Holy Grail, and voilà, a beauty journalist working in a newspaper or magazine section that’s long gone, they’re just advertisers. No one will dismantle the scam of the century; you have to communicate that the latest ultra-exclusive line, only sold in the boutique of the Kingdom of Narnia guarded by two one-eyed centaurs, is tremendously exclusive. And oud, lots of oud. There will surely be exceptions, but lines like this sing operas that are nothing but a con.
In my opinion, it is the most delicate and elegant oud one can wear. A true olfactory jewel that, besides having an exquisite presentation, doesn’t fade easily. It’s becoming increasingly hard to find.
I love the oud; I think it’s wonderful, and here the blend with the musk (which isn’t listed in the description, I don’t know why) and the incense is a bomb, a real hit of joy! I can’t quite explain it, but it’s simply fantastic.
I absolutely love oud; I think it’s wonderful, and here the blend with musk (which isn’t listed in the description, I don’t know why) and incense is, for me, a… I don’t know how to say it… a bomb? Like a hit of joy. I’m not sure, but it’s just stunning.
When I went to see the D&G collection, I was really keen on Velvet Zafferano; I liked it but it didn’t make me fall in love enough to buy it… now Desert Oud, wow! How beautiful. It’s a super delicate and elegant oud, with just the right dose of amber sweetness and smoky touches of incense. It’s different from all the oud perfumes I’ve tried so far, and there have been many. I see it as super unisex and it’s a pleasure for winter days or nights.
