  • If I had known about Velvet Oud before Tom Ford Ombre Leather, I would have saved $125. The original Ombre Leather (2016) had out-of-this-world performance, but the new version (the black round bottle from 2018) performs much less. Velvet Oud is clearly inspired by it: it’s more unisex, less dense than the original, but no less noticeable. It feels subtle and refined, yet its olfactory power is perceptible; it seems the scent sticks in the nostrils, which is very satisfying. Although similar to Tom Ford, it’s more delicate, silky, and avoids being harsh. It has comparable performance and longevity. It’s a safe and winning purchase. If you don’t have Ombre Leather or you’re looking for quality leather without spending too much, it’s for you. It suits both men and women without carrying gender stereotypes. Ideal for fresh or cold night weather. Scent 9.0, good projection (well noticed for 2 hours), 8 hours on skin. Recommended.

  • By far one of the best fragrances I’ve tried recently. It’s rich, delicious, and has a fruity touch. It lasts on me for at least 12 hours, and often more. I bought it blind and have no regrets; I’m already looking for my second bottle. It’s a masterpiece.

Unlike technical reviews that just list notes, I’m looking for real experiences. Today, at 7:55 in the morning, I took the lift, and by 10:30 the postman came asking if I’d been there before. He was so surprised by the scent that he asked about the fragrance. I told him it’s hard to find in department stores and recommended eBay, warning him that in the Canaries, customs often block perfumes from the East. This proves its projection and that people like it. I wear it whenever I feel like it, though in summer it can be a bit strong. It reminds me of Tuscan Leather by Tom Ford; Velvet Oud is like its rougher brother, lacking refinement, but from the same parents.

  • Angelmaius

Particularly, when I read a review on Fragrantica or search for it on YouTube, I don’t want to be told the notes, as I can read that myself; what I want is for someone to tell me their experience with that perfume in case it might be useful to me. Well: Today I took the lift in my office at 7:55 a.m. Around 10:30 a.m. the postman came up, and when he entered, the first thing he said was whether I had gone up before him. The public employee, approximately 50 years old, was surprised by the scent in the lift, and upon finding it on me, he asked about the fragrance. The downside is that this type of perfume is difficult to obtain for those who only buy in department store perfumeries, so I advised him to buy it on eBay, in case it actually arrives, as in the Canaries there are numerous occasions where customs do not let perfumes from the East Indies pass. This proves its projection and that it is a fragrance that is liked. I wear it whenever I feel like it, but perhaps in summer it might be a bit overwhelming. I find it similar to Tuscan Leather by Tom Ford, although Velvet Oud could be the unrefined, rougher brother, the coarser one but born of the same mother and with the same father’s seed.

  • In my opinion, Velvet Oud and Rare Carbon by Afnan are very similar: Velvet Oud has white floral notes and a slightly sweeter touch, but it has nothing to do with Tom Ford Ombre Leather. As for Ombre Leather, it genuinely lacks that authentic green leather scent; in Rare Carbon, the rose dominates everything, and in Velvet Oud, it’s barely noticeable. If you like the original Ombre Leather, buy it, because these two won’t satisfy that craving.

  • I’m fascinated by the scent, it’s one of my favourites. The only detail is that it has less sillage than I thought. After two hours it drops noticeably.

It’s a gem. I bought it and it’s a rich leather, less polished than Ombre Leather, more like Tuscan Leather. It’s madness, intoxicating. At first it’s rough, opening with citrus-floral and leather in the background, then the leather becomes the protagonist, splendid, with dark nuances but not complex. It has no oud or at least I don’t sense it. Lasts more than 12 hours on skin, projects for about 5 hours. Overall it’s a 10 for the price. Totally recommended. Scent: 9/10, Longevity: 8.8/10, Projection: 9/10, Price: 10/10. Unbeatable, it’s a delight.

It’s a true gem; I bought it recently and it’s a very rich leather, not as polished as in Ombre Leather, but more akin to Tuscan Leather. It’s madness, intoxicating beyond measure. At first, it’s somewhat harsh, opening with citrus-floral notes and leather in the base, but as it dries, the leather becomes the protagonist, shining splendidly with dark nuances but without becoming overly complex. I don’t sense oud, or at least I don’t perceive it. The longevity is more than good, 12 hours on skin, projecting around 5 feet. Overall, it’s a 10 out of 10 for the price, totally recommended. Scent: 9/10, Longevity: 8.8/10, Projection: 9/10, Price: 10/10. Unbeatable for the price, it’s a delight.

  • Perfume_History

Elegant leather, not coarse. A perfect blend of masculine, smoky, and floral-citrus-amber notes. A delight. Lattafa is always consistent, but it lasts more than 12 hours. I put it on at 9am and my husband noticed it by 9pm; the next day my pyjama shirt smelled of this, sweeter now. It reminded me of LV’s Ombre Nomade. The downside is it doesn’t suit everyone. Projection: 4 hours beast mode and 4 hours in your bubble. Versatile, ideal for night, but also for day if you want to look serious.

  • konvulsion

How does this leather smell? Like petrol, varnish, or Brut Nature champagne?

Bought a few days ago and reviewed: citrus, floral, and leather opening, then wood and amber. An undeclared red fruit appears, making it resemble Tuscan Leather or La Yuqawam, especially from a distance. Up close, leather, wood, and a soft amber dominate. People compare it to Ombre Leather, but I haven’t tried it. It’s elegant, sophisticated, and not very unisex; I don’t see it as feminine at all. Lasts about 10 hours with heavy projection. If you like Tuscan or La Yuqawam, consider this. It’s not identical, but it’s similar. Unbeatable price-to-quality. Buy blind if you like leather with fruity, floral, and amber touches.

  • Miguel Atenas S.

Well, I bought this perfume a couple of days ago and I feel obliged to review it. My opinion is that at first, I perceive citrus and floral notes along with very present leather, plus wood and amber. As minutes and hours pass, an undeclared berry note appears on Fragrantica that makes it resemble fragrances like Tom Ford Tuscan Leather or Rasasi La Yuqawam, especially from a distance; up close, you notice more the leather, wood, and softened amber. Many people compare it to Ombre Leather, but since I haven’t tried it, I can’t comment. It’s very good, definitely an elegant and sophisticated fragrance, something unisex, very little in my opinion; I don’t consider it at all strictly feminine, despite it being categorised as such here. I can’t imagine a woman wearing a scent like this. Longevity on my skin should be easily around 10 hours, with moderate to heavy projection. If you like Tuscan Leather or La Yuqawam, you could consider this. Is it identical? No. Does it resemble it? Yes, it has a resemblance. Price-quality? Absolutely. Blind buy? If you are a leather lover and like fragrances between Ombre Leather and Tuscan Leather with fruity, floral, leather, wood, and amber touches, you definitely should have it.

  • I bought this perfume blind today and the truth is I have mixed feelings. While it is an elegant fragrance with recognisable notes for a characterful masculine perfume (especially the leather note which feels very good at the opening and in the mid-stage), after a few hours, for me, a somewhat sweet aroma predominates that tends to be associated with feminine perfumes. I understand why it is a unisex perfume, but I struggle to think of an appropriate context to wear it as a man. The positive is that the perfume has exceptional intensity and longevity; with a single spray, it feels incredibly strong and intense, which can be somewhat abrasive, but for those looking for something like that, it’s perfect. And its longevity is quite prolonged. The opening note feels like leather alongside a slightly spicy note, ‘spicy’ in the nose, while after hours, the sweeter notes take precedence. The truth is I expected something else, but it was my mistake, so it is a perfume I would recommend depending on what the person is looking for.

  • I bought it blind and have mixed feelings. It’s elegant with masculine notes, the leather comes through well, but after a while it turns sweet and feminine. I understand it’s unisex, but it’s hard to see on a man. The good thing is it lasts and projects massively, even if it’s abrasive. I expected something else, but depending on what you’re looking for, yes, I recommend it.

  • I don’t know what the original smells like, but this Lattafa one smells bad. It reminds me of an air freshener mixed with an old lady’s perfume.

  • A tough, juicy aroma, like fruit. The opening is a spiced, fresh punch, but in a room full of leather and sweaty men. It has an animalic musk note that makes it dirty and rough. It’s the perfume for hard sex. It’s not bad if you like leather, even if it’s hypocritical to say you like it but it doesn’t suit you.

  • It’s a beast for night wear, very close to Tom Ford Ombre Leather but with more punch. Watch out, it can give you a headache and smells more like that Amber & Leather clone than the original. If you’re looking for an exact match, forget this; if you want leather with lasting power, it’s a hit.

  • Great scent. If you pay attention, it smells of intense, sharp tamarind. Then it almost transforms into Tuscan Leather. Honestly, I didn’t find that much resemblance to TF Ombre Leather; in my opinion, it’s elegant, not very versatile, and long-lasting, but I wouldn’t recommend it for enclosed environments like an office or living room. Don’t expect compliments from a general perfume. Perhaps if you’re asked what you smell like. It’s just my opinion. Everyone use it as they please. Best wishes!

  • Polydistortion

Lattafa makes good fragrances, both original and clones, but I notice that much of their catalogue smells very similar. Velvet Oud unfortunately falls into that trap. Mind you, I’m not saying it’s bad; on the contrary, it simply has nothing to characterise it outside the crowd.

  • It was a gift and it’s not a bad perfume, but it’s not for blind buying. If you like leather, it’s for you. It’s difficult to wear; better outdoors; don’t even think about wearing it in an office or enclosed spaces. Today I sprayed one and it’s making me dizzy and nauseous (just me), but my son and mother-in-law find it pleasant on the nape of the neck. Be careful with the sprays and test before buying.

  • JohnLecter86

In short, it’s a decent inspiration for Tom Ford’s Ombre Leather, but only at the start; then it diverges. It has marked notes of leather and smoky wood, which I like, but be careful with the sprays; it can be very invasive. It’s not expensive, with excellent value for money. I agree with many: it’s not for blind buying, but if you like leather, it deserves a place in your collection. Lattafa has surprised with many affordable and long-lasting creations.

  • _joceleste

I tried it and didn’t like it. I’d like to give it a chance, but it just didn’t convince me. Perhaps if someone gifted it to me. It has a very good price (I saw it between $10-20; in Chile it costs around 15,000-20,000 pesos). It’s one of the cheapest I’ve seen, but the opening doesn’t work for me. Oh, it’s compared to Tom Ford Ombre Leather… No joke, that’s one of my favourites; it sets the bar too high for Velvet Oud, and honestly, this one leaves a lot to be desired… it only shares notes like leather, wood, and strength. You know where I categorise this bargain.

  • Jorge Blanco

It bears no resemblance to Ombré Leather. Velvet Oud is drier, smokier, and harder. The other one becomes cloying. Tom Ford garners compliments; this one does not. I prefer Velvet Oud; it’s more masculine, serious, and distinct.

  • Definitely not for me. It feels overwhelming and even gave me a headache. I know there are trained noses, but these scents go beyond that. I feel people force themselves to like them just for the hype or to feel interesting. Don’t buy blindly.

  • Lattafa’s Velvet Oud is unisex, blending warm oud with spices and woods beautifully. It starts strong with leather, reminiscent of Ombre Leather, before evolving into something more exotic and mysterious with rich oud and sweet labdanum. The opening is similar, but the heart and dry-down are more oriental, featuring cardamom and cedar, making it unique. It lasts over eight hours with moderate projection, ideal for both day and night. Its smoky-sweet blend makes it versatile and seductive without being an exact clone of Tom Ford. It stands on its own, offering luxury at a great price. Perfect for lovers of sweet and spicy oud. Enjoy!

  • It’s dark and potent, not really my style. It projects better from a distance than up close. I think it will only attract compliments from men, not women.

  • Lattafa Velvet Oud is a unisex fragrance that masterfully combines the warmth of oud with subtle spice touches and woody nuances. Its opening is bold, with a strong leather note that could remind you of Tom Ford Ombre Leather, but as it evolves, Velvet Oud follows its own path. After that smoky and leathery beginning, the fragrance delves into a more exotic and mysterious territory, thanks to the rich oud and the sweet, warm touches of labdanum. While the opening bears a certain resemblance to Ombre Leather, the heart and dry-down diverge, taking on a more oriental profile with notes of cardamom and cedar that make it feel much more unique. The longevity of Velvet Oud is impressive, easily surpassing 8 hours, with moderate projection, perfect for both day and night. Its blend of woody and smoky tones, combined with a slightly sweet finish, ensures that this fragrance is versatile and seductive, although don’t expect an exact clone of Tom Ford’s creation. Velvet Oud stands on its own, offering a luxurious and seductive olfactory experience at an accessible price. Ideal for those who enjoy oud-based fragrances with a sweet and spicy twist, Velvet Oud is an excellent addition to any fragrance collection. Enjoy it!

I know nothing about Tuscan or Ombré Leather, but I tried this at a perfumerie and absolutely loved it. It smells of luxury and sophistication.

  • Maradona___

The first thing I notice is the rose in the opening. Fortunately, it fades, becoming more masculine and leaving a smoky leather trail. It’s not a clone of Ombré Leather; now everything with leather is called a clone, but it isn’t. It’s much leather, but by a different path. Edit: I need to correct myself. After a few months without using it and trying it again, I realised the magic of maturation. It’s 100% Ombré Leather, impossible to tell them apart.

  • It’s not a scent I enjoy; the only good thing is the longevity and projection, it soaks into everything. I understand it’s an imitation of Tom Ford’s Ombré Leather, I haven’t tried it, but if it smells like this, I have no good expectations…

  • Yvan Montiel

It smells like walking into a hospital room where time stopped in 1994. From the first spray, it hits with old disinfectant, sweaty plastic, and boiled sheets. Longevity? Brutal, unfortunately brutal. One application and it follows you all day like a bad memory. The worst part: it projects desperately to traumatise others. It’s not a fragrance; it’s a sensory trauma. Does anyone like it? Perhaps a nostalgic nurse or someone with a morbid affinity. If you’re looking to smell sexy, fresh, or bearable, run. Verdict: 10/10 on longevity, 0/10 on desire to return. A gem if your goal is to smell like a forgotten operating theatre.

  • Juantico

It’s not a bad fragrance as some say. I don’t know what they expect for $15. For the price, it’s a very good buy. Good longevity and smells nice. The rest is just chatter.

  • Hellcristh

Velvet Oud by Lattafa ★★★☆☆. Who said Arab perfumes are just medicinal oud and cobbler leather? Velvet Oud tries to be that, but also a velvet blanket, a vintage jacket, and a bad joke with a breath of sweet spices. Spoiler: it doesn’t pull it off gracefully, but it tries hard. It smells to me like leather from a jacket forgotten in the boot in Dubai, amber and smoke filtered through an expensive ashtray, and something wild and sweaty trying to hug you. The oud is there, of course. It’s like an old lady without flip-flops. Warm and spicy opening, but that freshness lasts less than your will to live after reading forums. The best part is the criticism: the opening is so potent you clear rooms or revive childhood memories with two sprays. There’s leather, but not the elegant kind from Tom Ford (comparing TF to Lattafa is like comparing a Ferrari to a neon donkey). This leather is green, as if the bottle were made of 1970s sofa remnants. And I still don’t understand what alien pH level those people have who swear it smells like honey, pomegranate, or Tuscan Leather. It doesn’t smell like that. It smells like an ambitious attempt with one foot in cheap luxury and the other in a puddle of misdirected ambition. That said, it lasts longer than your last serious relationship. Projection is ballistic missile style; good if you’re alone, disastrous if you’re in an elevator with innocent victims. In short: it screams ‘I’m intense’ in seven languages with a strange accent. You’ll like it if you enjoy olfactory chaos with green leather and a hint of ‘I don’t care’. Should I buy it? Only if you want something different, potent, and don’t mind that some might think you walked out of a spice shop with a chained tiger.

  • Don’t judge or review Arab perfumes straight out of the bottle; they all smell terrible at first. You need to let them mature for months. Even Club de Nuit Iconic, which everyone said was delicious the first time and I almost returned, turned out to be truly delightful after a few months.

  • I liked it, but I’m waiting for it to mellow out before updating. The Fragrantica notes don’t quite match up yet. I’m missing the violet, which is listed on the official Lattafa website and is what I smell the most. Does anyone else smell violet caramel from those typical Madrid perfumes? For me, it’s almost the only note. I can’t put my finger on it.

  • I love it! Smells like a graveyard. It’s exactly how Michael Jackson would smell dancing to Thriller.

  • Smells strongly of leather, with great projection and longevity. The only downside is that after a while, it starts smelling like cocaine.
