  • Vetiver Veritas is a fragrance I found difficult to rate, having tested and reviewed it to offer a fair opinion. Firstly, it is 100% organic, entirely natural without synthetics, and lives up to its name: real vetiver, nothing of the substitutes that often deceive us (a point in its favour). It smells very realistic, almost raw, as if vetiver essential oil were distilling through every pore. At first, the landscape is green, wild, almost cruel: the grapefruit and yerba mate add a golden touch over sun-ripened grass, with tobacco nuances. Imagine damp earth, almost mouldy; that initial blend with the earthy effect defines the scent (a point against if you aren’t used to such natural smells, but I liked it). As it dries, it becomes more woody, darker and curiously kinder than at the start, with pale leather notes that nuance, enrich and add shine to the lovely dry-down. It has two distinct phases, and the longevity and projection are quite good for an organic fragrance. For me, it is a stylistic exercise, a hyper-realistic, three-dimensional portrait of a landscape. Rating: 7

  • Vetiver Veritas is a fragrance I’ve struggled to rate, having tested and reconsidered it to give a fair opinion. First off: it is 100% organic, synthetic-free, and keeps its promise of being real vetiver, not cheap substitutes (a point in its favour). It smells very realistic, almost raw, as if essential oil were distilling through every pore. At first, it’s a green, wild, even cruel landscape; the grapefruit and yerba mate add a golden touch over sun-ripened grass, with tobacco nuances. Imagine damp earth, almost mouldy; that initial blend with the earthy base defines the aroma (a point against if you dislike such natural grassy scents, but I loved it). As it dries, it becomes more woody, darker and, curiously, kinder than at the start, with pale leather notes that nuance, enrich and add shine to that lovely dry-down. It has two clear phases, and its longevity and projection are quite good for an organic scent. For me, it’s a stylistic exercise, a hyper-realistic, three-dimensional portrait of a landscape. • True vetiver, just as its name suggests: pure vetiver scent and nothing but essences. The name doesn’t deceive; perhaps it is the highest-quality fragrance from the house, a massive leap forward compared to Sea Salt, Atenean or Cocobello. The fixative is excellent and the vetiver dominates from start to finish. I’d describe it as opening a bag of peanuts, chickpeas, roots and toasted nuts. If you love this note, it’s a must-have; if not, don’t buy it blindly due to its rawness. A good perfume.
