Rose Aria by Heeley promises freshness and lightness, but to me it sounds like a ripe, fleshy, and damp rose. It has a green note that gives it a serious, formal, and even slightly lugubrious air. It’s not a classic, but it is very mature; it lacks that spark to be lively, energetic, and casually spirited for a younger crowd. The scent is top-notch and the trail is potent, but it’s a pure soliflore, only for rose lovers. I think it would have benefited from a more pronounced oud or sandalwood to take the boredom away. It’s my number one rose, surpassing Portrait of a Lady. It smells of a garden rose, like a wet, spongy white bud. To me it’s unisex, though it depends on each person’s tolerance. The flaw: it’s more a 10/10 recreation of a scent than a perfume in itself, lacking twists or complexities.
It’s a realistic rose. I received a sample along with others from the house during an online chat with perfumer James Heeley, organised by a niche perfumerie in Madrid. As the fragrance had just launched, I tried it and loved it. At first, it smells of a garden rose wet with rain, with green nuances, then it powders and reminds me of dried roses between the pages of books. That powdery part is my favourite, a real delight. It’s one of my preferred roses, ideal for this rainy autumn we’re having. Longevity and projection are good: about 8 hours on skin and four hours of trail, after which it clings to the skin. Definitely one of my favourites for that powdery residue and it’s totally unisex.
