After smelling almost the entire Zoologist collection, Seahorse is one of the most accessible without losing its peculiar character. To my nose, it’s an ultramarine scent with a country touch. The opening is spectacular: lots of sea, algae and ambroxan, balanced by cereal and nut notes (cardamom and fennel) that keep it afloat, avoiding the depths like Squid does. Unfortunately, that particularity fades later and loses some originality, but the marine side remains, now creamier thanks to the flowers, making it elegant and comparable to Orto Parisi’s Megamare, but more polished and refined. Moderate performance, below the brand’s average; ideal for casual to semi-formal situations in warm climates, though not extreme ones. High price, but the quality of the composition justifies it. I liked it quite a bit; I see it as very original and would consider buying it. Note: 8/10
After going through the entire Zoologist collection, Seahorse stands out as one of the most accessible without losing its unique character. To my nose, it’s an ultramarine scent with a country touch. The opening is spectacular: lots of sea, algae over ambroxan, balanced by cereal and nut notes (probably cardamom and fennel) that keep it afloat, preventing it from sinking like the same brand’s Squid would. It’s a pity that this initial freshness fades quickly and loses a bit of originality. However, the marine side persists, now creamier thanks to the flowers that support it, making it elegant. If I had to compare it, it reminds me of Orto Parisi’s Megamare, but less wild and much more polished. Moderate performance, a bit below the brand’s average; ideal for casual to semi-formal situations in warm climates, though not extreme ones. High price, but the quality of the composition justifies it. I liked it quite a bit and see it as very original, so I’d consider buying it. Note: 8/10
I tried an original decant and, although it’s judged harshly, it smells very similar to Nautica Voyage at the start. Then it evolves and highlights the cardamom, sage and a touch of neroli more. If you like Nautica Voyage, try this niche version. Best regards.
I love this perfume! It’s fresh, sexy, slightly salty, green, spiced and super colourful. I haven’t smelled anything like it, and it’s so versatile I use it in the office (gives a clean feeling), on weekends or at the beach. It’s like a chameleonic seahorse. The projection is brutal for the first two hours (over a metre and a half), then moderate (half a metre) for four hours, and three hours close to the skin, all without reapplying. Among my Zoologist favourites, it’s in the top 2, just below the Mystery Squid. I read a lot before ordering a decant and watched the few videos; the contrasting reviews left room to take a chance, perhaps to fail and find a Nautica Voyage. I was wrong! I understand the comparison to Voyage in those first two aquatic seconds, but there isn’t much of the famous ‘nicho-killer’ from Julien. If it had a colour, it would be that vibrant turquoise green from the special edition. Its behaviour is colourful like the coral in the brief. The opening is fresh, spiced and green (no citrus), then a grain-of-salt type note enters to complement the accords. In the heart, cardamom with neroli and neroli root gives a creamy sensation that deceives you; it seems sweet but isn’t. The algae and ambergris arrive at the end very subtly, making that creamy accord spicier. It’s a less salty and marine version than Bulgari’s Aqva Marine (which also has algae, amber and neroli), and it doesn’t resemble Nishane’s Ege (which smells like fabric softener; if you’re in Mexico, Ege smells like Suavitel). Julien created a vibrant marine perfume without abusing the salt, algae, amber or aromatic green. Seahorse adapts to your outfit: with a shirt and blazer you smell clean and elegant, with a t-shirt and jeans fresh and sexy, with linen and shorts on holiday. Stop chasing the same perfumes and try this unique gem!
Salty aquatic and strange smell. Sometimes I notice cardamom, other times fish scales (perhaps algae?). Strange fragrance; at the start, too many algae, scales and fish. Then it settles, loses some fishiness and becomes more spiced, like warm but fresh sage. It’s not very strong, at least on my skin. On the best note, it makes me think of a large, rectangular, illuminated fish tank full of tropical fish and small corals. On the worst note, it’s like a plate of not-so-fresh seafood in some restaurant. A tiring scent.
Smells of salty water and something unusual; sometimes I detect cardamom or even fish scales (perhaps algae?). At first, it’s a madness of algae and shellfish, but then it settles, loses the fishiness and becomes spiced, like warm but fresh sage. It’s not very strong on my skin. The best part is that it reminds me of a large, rectangular, illuminated fish tank full of tropical fish and small corals. The worst is that it smells like a plate of not-so-fresh seafood in some restaurant. A tiring scent.
Smells very good, like a natural salty and aromatic soap. This Seahorse has character; although everyone likes it, it’s noticeable. Salty and vibrant opening with a marine touch, then it changes to aromatic notes and something soapy. Floral heart and amber base. I love wearing it; it’s super versatile, ideal for summer, day and night. It brings that clean sea sensation. It doesn’t highlight the saltiness or the aquatic side, but rather an aromatic note that I like immensely. It reminds me of Pacific Rock Moss but more mature and deep. The dry-down loses strength and remains light, with that marine vibe. I’ve really enjoyed it; it performs well but the price is steep. I’d like to try more from Zoologist.
Smells good; it’s like a natural, salty, aromatic soap. This Seahorse has character. While everyone likes it, it certainly turns heads. It opens with a vibrant, salty marine accord, then moves to aromatic and slightly soapy notes. The heart is floral and the base is ambered. I love wearing it; it’s very versatile, perfect for summer, day and night. It brings that clean sea sensation without being too salty or aquatic. I love that aromatic note; it reminds me of Pacific Rock Moss but more mature and deep. As it dries, it loses a bit of strength but retains that soft marine vibe. I’ve really enjoyed it; it performs well, though the price is steep. I’d like to try more from Zoologist.
I got a decant of Seahorse, my first step into niche. While the house is usually risky, this isn’t too much of a gamble. My girlfriend found it very strong, like dry sunscreen in the sun, but I absolutely loved it. It’s salty at first, citrusy and marine, evolving into a sweet neroli note reminiscent of a fougère. The longevity is brutal; over 8 hours with 8 sprays from a decant (4 in the office is perfect, though it was a bit overpowering at the start). The projection is intense and very noticeable. Ideal for extreme heat if you control the sprays indoors. A blind buy for lovers of marine/fougère scents.
