Sirenis by Les Liquides Imaginaires is a woody aquatic fragrance for men and women. Launched in 2022, this composition was created by Sonia Constant and Marion Costero. I’ve never understood the criticism of this perfume. It reminds me of Sécrétions Magnifiques, of stench, of a neglected siren, or a bucket of fish. I understand that for some, there might be a discordant note, something organic and milky that causes a short circuit, but it’s just a nuance. What is true is that, although it has a marine tint, it smells more aquatic than marine. It’s a balance of flowers, salt, water, cleanliness, and ozonic freshness, with an animalic counterpoint that doesn’t come from a terrestrial animal like civet, but rather reminds me of a mollusc. I repeat: it’s a facet that doesn’t dominate but nuances and makes the fragrance unique. It’s not for everyone, so I would never recommend buying it without testing it on the skin. Many perfumes smell different on the skin than in the trail, and ‘dirty’ musks become more noticeable up close. For me, it’s pleasant, fresh, aquatic, floral, clean, and distinct for that animal side.

It’s the first perfume in years that I find repulsive, yet it delivers exactly what it promises: the sea in its purest form. Sirenis smells like that shoreline, water plunging deep, heavy with algae, iodine, and salt. As an olfactory experience, it’s brilliant, but as a personal scent, it just doesn’t work for me. Womanity mentioned it smells of fish, but in reality, it has very sweet figs; you can detect the fig leaf and a hint of salty breeze, though its essence is fruity. It might happen to someone that the fruity note fades and the salt dominates, which is rare but possible. Here, that doesn’t occur; there’s no sweetness, just the real thing. My skin might alter it, but on paper, it already smells like this. Perhaps it’s my perception, influenced by the description.

It’s the first perfume in years that I find repulsive, yet it remains faithful to what it represents: a collection of the SEA in its purest state. Sirenis smells like the shoreline, the water entering the depths, abundant algae, iodine, and salt water. As an olfactory experience, it’s fantastic, but as a personal scent, I absolutely dislike it. Womanity said it smelled of fish, but in truth, it has very sweet figs; you can sense the fig leaf and a touch of salty breeze, being essentially fruity. That someone’s fruity note might fade and the salt come through could happen, but here there are no sweet notes; it represents what it truly smells like. My skin might change it, but on paper, it already smells this way. Perhaps it’s my perception, influenced by the description.
