The opening lasts ten seconds and smells of brandy alcohol (like bottled alcohol, but very soft). As it dries down, it’s more of an ‘olfactory sensation’, akin to Escentric Molecules: it resembles oak wood with a faint background of vanilla from Mancera Cedrat Boise, very soft and almost transparent. When I bought it, I thought it was anosmic, that it couldn’t be smelled, but after trying it several times, I detected that sensation at arm’s length and on the skin. It seems like a molecular fragrance.
Everyone talks about Black Phantom or Intoxicated, even Angel’s Share lately, but after trying almost the entire Kilian range, I swear this Apple Brandy is the best from the house and one of the finest fragrances I’ve ever tried. It smells simple yet possesses sublime depth and realism: a refined brandy that draws out the last sweetness from a caramelised and malted apple, with barrel wood everywhere. Sometimes it’s more volatile, other times fruitier, but always with delicious quality and intoxication. As it dries down, a malty note emerges like in Angel’s Share, making it definitively boozy. I agree with Elpro that it has molecular nuances and something undefined at the start, but I believe it lasts and projects more than you’d think. It’s a proper fragrance, unisex with a lean towards masculine, ideal for cold weather, dates, and formal events, though I’d wear it every day. It’s an inexplicable crime to discontinue it for the ‘on the rocks’ version, which doesn’t even come close. Luckily, the Alexandria version is immensely similar and keeps this excellence alive. Rating: 10/10, from another planet.
Nothing to add to @Elpro and @SirCharlie’s reviews: it smells glorious, but given the price, it’s a treat for oneself as it lacks projection and fades quickly; sometimes you catch it, and I confess, it’s intoxicating.
