It’s a woody fragrance with a light patchouli and the typical mix of rum and nuts. I liked the opening, where the patchouli was strong, but it gradually gave way to the rum and nuts. On paper it sounds interesting, but in this fragrance it hasn’t convinced me; something is off and it doesn’t fill me up. It smells good, but it’s not special for me. In the dry-down, the vanilla is more noticeable, sweetening without being cloying. I see it as leaning towards feminine and suitable for any climate. Longevity is normal and projection is weak.
It is a woody fragrance with a light touch of patchouli and the typical mix of rum and nuts. I liked the opening, where the patchouli was strong, a note I usually enjoy, but gradually it lost presence against the rum and nuts with the wood in the background. A priori the mix seems interesting, but in this fragrance it hasn’t convinced me. Something is missing and it doesn’t quite fill the bill. It smells good, but it is nothing special for me. In the dry down, the vanilla is more noticeable, sweetening without being cloying. I see it as leaning towards feminine and it is suitable for any climate. Normal longevity and weak projection.
Straight to Heaven opens spicy and warm, with no intention of being refreshing. Nuts and jasmine nuance this good patchouli, which is very earthy-free and has a smoky effect like a heater. It projects by heartbeats, which I love. Amber, cedar, and musk create this effect. The rum is crystal clear from the start and evolves into a sensual effect, like rum with raisins, with the sweetness of vanilla that rounds it off without being cloying or resembling a drink. Longevity on my skin is very good and projection is moderate, which I appreciate to avoid being unbearable. Excellent quality. If you like smoky patchouli with rum and raisins, you will love it. Rating: 7.
It’s quasi-gourmand, but something is wrong with the blend of notes that don’t sit well together. It’s not bad, but I wouldn’t buy it. Longevity is regular and projection is very low.
Kilian fragrances are hard to find and expensive. To describe it, one must use ‘boozy’: it is incredibly boozy. At first, it is overwhelming, reminiscent of A*Men Pure Malt with a touch of caramel and spicy patchouli, like a dark, thick rum that quickly changes to a natural, dry cedar. I have mixed feelings: my biggest complaint is longevity. Two sprays were unbearable for 2 hours, and by 6 hours only a faint trace remains. Projection is excellent for the first few hours, but the lack of longevity and excessive price prevent me from buying it.
Aged rum with a fruity note denotes maturity, perfect for those over 40 and formal or office situations. It works well in cold climates. At first, it smells medicinal, almost like a pharmacy, and is potent, but after 10 minutes it becomes bearable and only the rum remains. It denotes elegance. UPDATE: I wore it today at 35 degrees and it seems to work well, although with less potency. Like many fragrances, the more you use it, the more you enjoy it.
Old rum with a fruity twist: it smells of maturity, perfect for those over 40 in formal settings or the office. It works well in the cold. At first, it smells like something I can’t quite identify, almost patchouli, which I don’t entirely like, but after half an hour it fades away, leaving just the rum, elegant. As others have said, the opening smells strongly of a chemist’s shop and can be off-putting, but after 10 minutes it’s much less so. UPDATE: I tried it today at 35 degrees and it works well, though with less potency than in the cold. In the end, after using it several times, it truly starts to grow on you.
An exquisite patchouli blended with rich rum, an addictive aroma. The only downside is that its projection and longevity are scarce.
A exquisite patchouli mixed with rich rum, an addictive aroma. The downside is that it projects and lasts for a short time.
I’m not sure if my nose is faulty, but this perfume barely smells. I recommend trying it before buying.
A exquisite fragrance by Kilian that isn’t for everyone. It smells like a drunkard with patchouli as the star, very refined and not earthy, mixed with woods and the just-right sweetness of nuts and amber. It is complex, characterful, and difficult to wear; it has a vintage air and a touch of camphor, pure class. It is strictly formal, for cold weather and evening wear. It is very similar to Tiziana Terenzi’s Ursa, which is rougher and louder, although it lasts and projects more, which I’m not sure is a good thing, plus it is much cheaper in 100ml. If I didn’t look at the price, I would go for Straight to Heaven, which, being more timid, is more refined. In short, a great gentleman’s fragrance with two major problems: low versatility and a high price.
An exquisite Kilian fragrance, complex and full of character, although not for everyone. It’s a refined patchouli, nothing earthy, blended with woods, nuts, and a perfect amber sweetness. It has a vintage air, a camphorated touch, and pure class, ideal for night and cold weather. It resembles Ursa by Tiziana Terenzi, but this one is rougher and flashier, although it lasts longer and projects better (though that’s not always a good thing). For the price, Straight to Heaven wins, as it is more timid but more refined. A great gentleman’s fragrance, but expensive and not very versatile.
I don’t know how to describe it well; I see the notes but I don’t smell them. Perhaps it is already so diluted that its pyramid is a shadow of what it was and it doesn’t convey what it intended when it launched. Anyway, it is a pity that it is so ethereal and short-lived, because it is a true beauty and at full performance (around 2007) it should have been spectacular. Upon application, it smells like a green accord, slightly alcoholic, dry and sweetened. I deduce it is the patchouli, without its earthy or chocolatey nuances, more like a green leaf with a slight rum and a fresh/spicy breath of nutmeg identifiable after a few minutes. It hints at clean, delicate, fine, and musky woods with a subtle sweetness in the base, but again the notes are too insubstantial. Nothing feels with clarity: neither vanilla, nor guaiac, nor leather, nor tonka. Performance is scant and projection is moderate; it is suitable for any season except summer. Very expensive for what it is, but tremendously pleasant.
I can’t quite reconcile the notes with how it smells; it feels like a ghost of the 2007 version, too watery and ethereal. Upon application, it smells green, slightly alcoholic and dry, with a hint of rum and fresh nutmeg that only emerges after a few minutes. The clean, musky woods are noticeable, but everything is very diffuse: no vanilla, no guaiac, no leather. Projection is adequate and longevity is short, making it ideal for any season except summer. Worth it for how pleasant it is, though the price is high for the performance.
