I love it, but I find the longevity very short.
A fragrance dedicated to ‘Les Fleurs du Mal’ by the French poet. The opening is very spiced, with peaks of pepper and caraway; juniper berries round off the accord. It feels leathery, salty, dry and overwhelming, pulled from the bowels of the earth mixed with burnt trees. Incense appears, then the heart with smoked leather and hyacinth, the soul of the fragrance. Here it takes a turn and feels more tempered, warm, like human skin, balsamic, woody, with papyrus and patchouli. The base is dark as ash, cruel, mature, complex and complicated. Baudelaire is an exceptional leather full of nuances. It is tearing and beautiful, like Baudelaire’s poems. Rating: 7

Overall, although they are distinct, they have an air of L’instant EDP Extreme, but with that typical dirty note of Byredo that I dislike and can’t link to the official notes. Could it be the papyrus? That dirtiness reminds me of the smell of dung. At least one has to recognise that the house wants to put its own distinctive stamp on its entire perfume line.
I’m obsessed with leather and wanted to try this Baudelaire. It’s an uncomfortable leather, not because it’s rough, but because it’s over-seasoned with a host of spicy and aromatic notes that are irritating. It’s like a cauldron of saline acidity that burns the mouth and, instead of settling, climbs in intensity. I’d define it as waterlogged leather with things with eyes that never stop moving. I even imagine a smoothie with fish scales; it doesn’t smell of seafood, but has that dry, rough aftertaste of old skin or hair mixed with salted cod and mahogany shavings, just like the cedar flakes in cigars that smell terrible. I found it awful. Occasionally I catch a hint of sweet oud, but that synthetic and odd touch is the house signature; I’ve never tried a balanced Byredo. I’ll keep exploring the brand…

It’s an uncomfortable leather, not because it’s rough, but because it’s over-seasoned with a host of spicy and spiced notes that are irritating. It’s like a cauldron of saline acidity that burns your mouth and, instead of settling, only gets sharper. I’d define it as waterlogged leather mixed with things with eyes that never stop moving.
