Castley by Parfums de Marly is an aromatic citrus fragrance for men. This creation, launched in 2025, unfolds an olfactory pyramid where the top notes combine bergamot, ginger, black pepper and grapefruit. My first big disappointment with PDM. After Layton, Althair, and Perseus, they threw me in at the deep end with Castley and pfffff. Not fresh or citrusy, just pepper and more pepper. They don’t always get it right. I don’t understand why people compare it to LV’s Imagination.

I’ll make it easy: Light Blue by Dolce & Gabbana for women. That’s the fragrance.

Trying Castley, I noticed Parfums de Marly has applied their winning formula again: a niche with soul that is totally mainstream. From the start, citrus and black pepper notes reminded me of Sedley, before revealing nuances that evoke Bois Impérial and certain nods to LV’s Imagination. The best part is that it’s not a copy, but an intelligent blend of the best of all three. The result is fresh, spiced, slightly woody, easy to love, and very versatile. On my skin, it lasts between 6 and 8 hours with moderate projection, enough to make people ask what you’re wearing, without being a ‘beast mode’. For me, it’s a swiss army knife: it works for any occasion, it’s not cloying, and it always adds up. The positives are how easy it is to wear and its elegant design; the negatives are that it’s not revolutionary and the price might seem high for something so safe. It’s a strategic launch, easy to love, and ready to be a hit. If you’re looking for versatility and confidence, it’s a great choice.

  • Why review a scent that projects nothing? I bought it blind and I regret it. After 30 minutes, it’s completely undetectable. Threw the money away.

  • Merry Christmas to everyone! I liked this fragrance, but you were right to say it lacked punch. I took matters into my own hands and found the definitive solution: I apply the original first, then layer it with ‘King’s Warhorse’ by DUA. The result is a delicious scent; the ginger and pepper take centre stage, preventing the agarwood from dominating and leaving the fragrance fresher. The longevity jumps to 10-12 hours with excellent projection. It performed perfectly and I’m so pleased that I’m going to order two more bottles of DUA to mature while I use up the original. Simply delicious! I hope this advice helps.

  • Castley is a proper classic: masculine, clean, and impeccably structured. From the very first moment, it exudes sober elegance, achieving a fine balance between freshness and wood without veering into cliché. It doesn’t seek to surprise or break the mould, but rather to offer something safe and correct, with that touch of the modern, polished man who doesn’t need exaggerations. On my skin, it feels delicate and restrained; the projection isn’t powerful and softens over time. It didn’t impress me through force or dramatic evolution, but through its coherence. In short, I liked it: it’s elegant, usable, and consistent, though it didn’t give me that ‘I need this now’ feeling other fragrances do. Rating: 4.1/5
