Carlisle by Parfums de Marly

A classy fragrance with high standing, ideal for suits and solemn events. Suitable for men over 40. The opening is avoirdupois but blends with apple, saffron, and patchouli. It is not a beast noticeable from a distance, but those who approach smell luxury and maturity. Smells incredible, perfect for weddings or christenings, not for parties. The composition is superior.

Undoubtedly one of the best I have ever smelled. Opens with a juicy, sweetened apple, dominated by a patchouli bomb. If you like this note, it is essential. I applied it 15 hours ago and it barely fades, still lingering close to the skin. Tremendous.

Carlisle by Parfums de Marly reminds me of Mancera’s Red Tobacco without the tobacco. Notes of saffron, green apple, nutmeg, patchouli, and well-presented vanilla are clearly there. Strong in longevity and projection. Try it before buying, although it usually pleases, preferences vary. Quality and complexity fully recommended.

Starts similar to Bulgari Man in Black Spicebomb Extreme and then approaches Dior Homme Intense, but more chocolatey, vanilla-sweet, and without iris. Warm, slightly avoirdupois, with nutmeg and musk. Very pleasant and unisex, I recommend trying it before buying.

Imnotlarry, why are you talking about another fragrance? It amuses me. Little by little you distort the forum: some talk about what they fancy, others think they are masters without knowing anything, others review cheap copies, and others go to John Lewis, spray once, and already opine five paragraphs as if they were François Demachy. In short.

Didn’t take to it at first, but the quality left me speechless. It’s superbly balanced; I find it challenging (and fun) to separate the notes. I can feel how the nutmeg blends with the patchouli, giving it a tobacco-like touch but with a greener edge, all wrapped in a subtle vanilla sweetness. It’s very dense. Conceptually, it reminds me of Pegasus, another fragrance I don’t wear but enjoy analysing. It’s a real winner; an enviable signature for anyone who appreciates it.

Absolutely delicious. It sounds remarkably like Amouage’s Memoir Woman. Pure pepper and warm spices embracing a vanilla rose. There’s also a very soft green apple note. The performance is good, not beastly (2021 reformulated batch), but worth every penny. Among the Marly parfums, it’s one of the most complex, alongside the Exclusifs, yet Carlisle is relatively easy to like. That’s what I love: it’s niche, top quality, lasts well, and people notice.

I have an 8ml decant. After several days, it’s an exquisite scent with a spectacular opening: quality patchouli, sweet notes (if cloying) and a charming apple. The first two hours have top projection and trail, but then it almost disappears. It’s odd: upon spraying, it smells warm and potent, making me think it would last, but it doesn’t. By five hours, there’s barely a trace, not even on clothes. Given the price, the longevity makes buying it unthinkable. PDM is damaging its reputation with these reformulations; they should look into it.

First impression: it smells good, but the opening is on the borderline of being too feminine. The green apple note reminded me a lot of DKNY Be Delicious. After a few hours, it literally transforms into something deep and mysterious. I insist: give it a proper try.

A category perfume. As soon as you apply it, the opening is potent and reminds you of those plastic dolls, especially the head. After a few minutes, the royalty kicks in. It certainly brings Herod to mind, but then the floral and fruity notes recall Akaster, a true gem. Tonka bean, patchouli, rose and tobacco create a fragrance with class, distinction and presence. A great perfume that joins the elite alongside Layton and Akaster. Good projection, longevity and trail; you’ll make an impression. Recommended for all seasons except summer, and for formal or semi-formal outfits. It’s mature, for those over 30. Scent 9.5/10, Trail 9/10, Longevity 9/10, Projection 8.5/10. Highly recommended.

Starts with a strange note smelling of plasticine before settling, then explodes into a blend of citrus, fruits and spices that is pure magic. Although I can’t detect every single note, the whole is brilliant and keeps my nose glued to it; it’s my Holy Grail so far. If a non-expert hops in the car and shouts ‘what a sweet smell!’, that’s worth a thousand. I think the great Andrés has it but doesn’t show it off because it’s a secret gem. Projection and longevity 9/10: people will smell you from two metres away and it lasts all day. You’ll smell like Olympus and some necks will suffer, but without guilt. A Nicheboy.
