Haltane by Parfums de Marly

Haltane hits hard from the very first spray. It achieves a perfect balance between a modern sweetness and a deep woody base that gives it character and gravitas. It’s not cloying or youthful; it’s a masculine, structured scent with identity. What stands out most is its distinguished air. It feels elegant and confident, possessing that refined touch that doesn’t need to shout to make an impression. The light sweet note softens the composition, but the woody base keeps everything firmly in masculine territory. It’s not delicate or harmless; it has substance. I see it as perfect for temperate and cold climates, where it shines naturally. It’s versatile: it works for everyday wear if you like to smell classy, as well as formal situations where you want to project maturity. Of the ones I’ve tried from the house, this is the one that has convinced me the most. It has something that connects: contemporary elegance with character. My rating: 4.3/5.

This is a perfectly balanced combination of oud and fruity notes, neither more nor less. In my opinion, it is the best perfume from Parfums de Marly. There are clones and dupe Arabic fragrances available for a fraction of the price, but they will never deliver the quality this one offers. Elegant, classic, and contemporary all at once. I recommend testing before buying, as the dry-down is quite an experience.

It’s a dry oud that is somewhat bearable only in very cold weather. There is something sweet or fruity underneath the oud, but it is a scent I simply cannot stand. Where I live, temperatures rarely drop below 16°C even in winter. It’s not for me. Furthermore, I asked two people about the fragrance’s scent, and one said it smelled like burnt plastic, while the other said it smelled like skidding tyres. I will have to sell it or move to a location further north.

Haltane is a very attractive oud fragrance, similar to Oud For Greatness from the house Initio. Many consider it a more bearable version, thanks to its aromatic and fruity components that make it more versatile. In my view, Haltane presents itself as a hybrid between Oud For Greatness and Oud For Greatness Neo. Its performance is notable, both in longevity and projection, making it an excellent option for those who enjoy the DNA of Oud For Greatness. However, I deduct a point for its lack of originality. Nevertheless, it is a very well-executed fragrance, and I recommend users to try it. As for my personal opinion, I prefer Oud For Greatness, but there is no right or wrong choice when it comes to selecting fragrances.

I tested it with a 10ml decant to avoid making a mistake, and it is a fragrance very similar to Lattafa Bade al Oud for Glory; there is nothing new here; in fact, I prefer Lattafa. Parfums de Marly would be like an eau de cologne version of Lattafa, less cloying and less heavy or less sweet; it is very light, if you will, as if made for use on fresher days or with a little warmth. Without being so heavy, it is 80% similar to Lattafa. Its longevity is weak on my skin; for the price they charge, I think their performance is an insult: 2 hours of sillage with a mediocre aromatic bubble in performance, and then it drops to skin-level. For that, I prefer Hartnell from Fragrance World, same performance and better price, and its similarity is 95% to Haltane from Parfums de Marly; the aromatic bubble lasts a little longer. I will opt for that option, I think. At first, I didn’t know if it would be the same as Parfums de Marly, and since they are very similar, I will save my dollars versus the performance. Some might say: ‘well, it’s because of the quality of synthetic ingredients and blah blah’… nowadays perfumery is created in laboratories through chemical synthesis and natural essences, which are enhanced and stretched to the maximum, etc.; you would have to have the olfactory sense of a dog to be able to distinguish that, and that won’t happen.

A clone of Oud for Greatness 😁 If you’re planning to buy an OFG right now, better not; they say they reformulated it and it came out weird. Grab Haltane instead and save some euros.

An impactful fragrance where I recognise a slightly bitter vetiver omnipresent in the base; it’s the ingredient that lingers most on the skin, far more than the oud. Absolutely masculine, penetrating, with a cold, solid dry-down. The projection, trail, and longevity are powerful. Try it before buying, especially given the selling price.

Oud. You know what they say about Tom Ford Oud Wood, that being a very tamed Oud, it’s perfect for beginners? Well, no, this is it. It’s a clean and versatile Oud, with more notes around to round it off, but what dominates is an easy-to-wear Oud that everyone will like. Unlike Tom Ford’s, this projects and lasts wonderfully. I don’t vividly remember its scent now to say how similar they are, but it’s quite probable that if you like one, you’ll like the other. Best wishes.

Smells very good, a safe bet for a well-westernised oriental aroma. As well said in previous comments, it smells like a blend of known niche aromas. If you’re new to Oud and want to try something safe, go for Haltane. If you’re one of those who prefer a predominant natural Oud, this isn’t for you.

First impressions: a softer, kinder, and slightly sweeter OFG. It has that aromatic point of lavender and clary sage that is very pleasant. OFG is a sledgehammer that I find harder to wear, whereas Haltane is quite easy within this style. Please don’t compare it with Oud for Glory.

Absolutely stunning fragrance, a beast in terms of longevity and projection. I went to buy Kalan, tried this one, and what a surprise on my skin: it was a bomb. It lasted 24 hours, so I didn’t hesitate, I left and bought it. It’s pricey here in Argentina, but it’s worth every penny, it’s a beauty.

It’s 80-90% similar to Oud for Greatness, but here I find it less potent and more sweetened by that praliné note. If you already own Haltane and OFG, it feels redundant. Today, if I had to choose, I’d stick with Initio’s: it’s more addictive, masculine, and has personality, though it’s a bit more challenging and less versatile. In terms of price per millilitre, Parfums de Marly wins. They cost the same, but one comes in 90ml and the other in 125ml. Edit: having tried it over the past few days, Haltane is pleasing me less and less. It seems they copied the OFG DNA and added a praliné that doesn’t quite fit. Some may enjoy that extra sweetness, but I don’t. It doesn’t seem as rounded as the original.
