Incense Soft is a statement of intent. If the notes say it reminds you of a Botafumeiro, it is because it is. The coffee barely serves to open the way to the incense, which penetrates deep and clear: it’s pure, spiritual, ecclesiastical and natural, until it seems to smell of ancient woods and relics. Then, the vanilla emerges very slowly, staying in the background to leave a soft scent. The mastery lies in that millimetric evolution where the vanilla rises subtly. It projects for 2-3 hours, barely beyond the arm, and then settles on us with the lightness of fine silk. For the following 5-6 hours it’s felt by bringing the nose close, but it remains there beyond 12 hours. The price is 190 euros for 100ml, something only incense lovers and those who appreciate its subtlety will value. The quality is more than enough and there are mediocre perfumes that cost more. Au revoir.
I never thought I’d like an incense so much; in fact, that note usually turns me off, but this one lives up to its name. It’s very soft, not weak, but with a delicate pearl-grey nuance, like a fine mist and not dense smoke. Benzoin and labdanum wrap it in a delicious balsamic sweetness. It’s subtle but very persistent, with the luxury of first-quality ingredients. On me, it has a relaxing power; I wear it on busy days to feel serene. It has a silent quality: the trail is discreet, but those who smell it praise it. This ambered incense is a gem that I recommend with my eyes closed.
Encens Suave opens with a sweet coffee, benzoin and vanilla. It reminds me of a cold February Sunday, waking up late with a lion’s hunger, preparing a foamy vanilla cappuccino to last until lunch. The coffee disappears quickly and gives way to labdanum and incense, creating a soft and harmonious warmth thanks to the resins. It lasts about 10 hours on the skin: it projects strongly for the first two hours and then stays in a personal bubble. It’s clearly winter, unisex and with a nocturnal air, although it can be worn during the day. I find it beautiful and every time I smell it makes me smile and think I should stop testing such expensive perfumes. Pleasant: 10/10, Interesting: 9/10, Versatile: 7/10, Original: 7/10.
The first time I tried it on blotter paper, oh my god, it smelled of pure frankincense, nothing else, so I wondered who would want to smell like that. But once applied to skin, things changed. Yes, frankincense remains the dominant note, but it’s not the only thing. It’s a soft, ecclesiastical yet refined, warm and resinous incense; it reminds me of walking through a huge cathedral filled with antique furniture and treasures from another time. On skin, it blends with a slightly spiced vanilla that adds sweetness and balsamic notes. I don’t detect much coffee, but the vanilla really stands out, and when combined with the incense, it creates a captivating and mysterious combination… very sexy on a man and full of character on a woman. I see it as totally unisex. It’s more for special occasions; personally, I can’t see myself wearing incense daily. Better suited to medium/cool temperatures. The performance is brutal: it projects incredibly for the first 3-4 hours and lasts over 10 hours on skin. It truly deserves its reputation. It’s a distinct perfume, masterfully blended; it’s hard for an incense perfume to please everyone. The price is high, but with two sprays you get optimal performance. As it’s not for daily wear, decide if it’s worth the investment. Be careful, don’t buy it blindly just because of good reviews; it remains a peculiar scent, so try it first if you can or order a sample.
The first time I tested it on paper I thought: who wants to smell like pure incense? But once I applied it to my skin, everything changed. It remains incense, but soft, refined and warm, like walking through a cathedral full of antique furniture and treasures. On the skin it blends with a spiced vanilla that gives it sweetness and balsamic notes; I barely notice the coffee, but the vanilla stands out and creates a captivating combination. I see it as unisex, very sexy on men and with character on women. Ideal for special occasions or cold weather, as I can’t see myself using it daily. The longevity is incredible, over 10 hours, with a strong projection at first. It totally deserves its reputation, although the price is high and you only need two sprays. I wouldn’t recommend buying it blind; better to try a sample first as it’s a very peculiar scent.
Imagine an old church fused with a vanilla bakery. It’s a masterpiece where Somali incense dominates from the start, soft and accompanied by greens and resins. Then, amber and a sweet but balanced vanilla take it to a gourmand world. In the base, benzoin and labdanum add depth and a hint of roasted coffee. It reminded me of ‘By the Fireplace’, but it’s more complex, refined and elegant; it doesn’t smell like a campfire, but rather mystery and warmth. Unisex with a more masculine character. The longevity is brutal, over 7 hours, even the next day. I love that it comes in various sizes, but for now I can’t see myself using it outside the home, so for now it’s a no.
Imagine ecclesiastical incense fusing with a vanilla cake; that’s this perfume. For me, it’s a mix of church and bakery. It’s a masterpiece! ‘Encens Suave’ is very smoky, with Somali frankincense resin taking centre stage from the start. Soft, it’s accompanied in the opening by green and resinous chords. Then the amber enters, and thanks to a deep, sweet but not overpowering vanilla, it radically changes the incense, bringing it into gourmand territory. In the dry down, we have sweet benzoin with labdanum adding depth and a hint of roasted coffee. It reminded me of ‘By the Fireplace’, but they aren’t the same; ‘Encens Suave’ is more complex, soft, refined and interesting, it doesn’t smell like a campfire. It also brought to mind ‘Absolute Aphrodisiac’. It’s mysterious, dark, warm, elegant and addictive. More unisex leaning towards masculine. The performance is excellent, like all the Matiere Premiere perfumes I’ve tried, even on my difficult skin. Moderate trail and high longevity, around 7 hours. I wore it yesterday before bed and woke up with it still perfect. I would buy it, but I can’t see myself wearing this scent; I wouldn’t know when to use it, and wearing it just to be at home seems like an insult, so for now it’s a no, we’ll see in a few months. I love that they come in various sizes, so it doesn’t feel impossible to acquire, unlike with other houses.
I just tested it and it delivers exactly what its name says: it’s an incense, but sweet and ambered, making it very wearable and delicious. So far, it’s my favourite from the brand. Nothing like those strong, fresh or ecclesiastical incenses that are usually so aggressive.
I tested it on a towel and it delivers 100% on its promise of softness: it’s a delicate, super pleasant and comforting incense. Sometimes it smells citrusy, as if it had lemon, but I think that’s just my imagination since it doesn’t contain citrus. It lasts incredibly long; on clothes and the towel, it still smells like days later. Perhaps due to the price and intensity, I find it hard to see it as a daily wear, but I’m not ruling out buying it.
I like it, although I love incense, this particular one doesn’t say much to me. It reminds me of a less synthetic version of the Ameer Al Oudh Intense Oud by Lattafa, which makes me doubt its quality and, consequently, its value.
I don’t like it. I’m not saying it’s a bad perfume, but it’s not for me; it seems this incense doesn’t suit me.
Sublime incense with very good performance. It comes out with the incense which then elegantly turns into amber. I’ve worn it in the office for a week, controlling the sprays, and it has been liked by those around me. If you overdo the sprays, it can become overwhelming in the heat.
It starts very potent, then softens, and that’s when a wonderful and elegant fragrance is felt. It lasts all day, leaves a pleasant trail, and is a delicious scent; hard to imagine anyone not liking it. Worth every penny. I see it as more masculine.
It’s exactly as described: a soft incense, nothing stinging, coated in elegant, restrained, and creamy vanilla, not cloying, which makes it super sexy and unisex. I detect the coffee a little at the start, in balance with the rest. It was a blind buy and without warning, I already received the first compliment from my partner, who said I smelled good and wanted that perfume for her. Imagine how it is. The trail and projection are restrained, but when you’re close… uff. I recommend it greatly, although the price is high; if you want quality, you pay for it. I won’t say which, but recently I bought one from Paris Corner which is this same thing at 85%. I’ll keep both to enjoy from October onwards.
Soft incense or soft coffee? Either way, it’s delicious.
Warm, enveloping, and with its own bubble. I detect coffee at the beginning, and gradually everything settles into a rich, sweet base with touches of very soft incense and vanilla, as I said before. Perfect.
Mysterious and intriguing. This fragrance is framed by a sweet, bright incense thanks to the vanilla, which gives it exquisite warmth. At first, the incense dominates; it’s subtle, silky, and luminous, with little coffee detected. As the heart phase fades, a more woody and resinous scent emerges, like amber, complemented by labdanum and benzoin which add a dry touch. In the dry down, the vanilla recedes but the incense continues to pull woody notes. It has a liturgical air, but that vanilla sweetness makes it perfect for going out at night and standing out. Exquisite and totally recommended.
What a delicious scent. I love incense and hadn’t found one with such a refined note. The quality is very noticeable. At 40 minutes, the coffee and vanilla notes begin, and the combination makes me even perceive chocolate. It’s rich, elegant, creamy, and even sexy. 10/10, I’m fascinated.
The name ‘Suave’ has misled me. It smells of very dry, smoky incense, leaving no room for anything else. On skin and clothes, it’s like standing beside a forest fire; I detect no coffee, vanilla, or labdanum. Since my signature is the ‘Loewe 7 Anónimo’, I find no note here that wins me over. Better to wear it for several hours on the skin before buying.
