Explorer by Montblanc is an aromatic woody fragrance for men. Launched in 2019, this composition was created by Jordi Fernandez, Antoine Maisondieu and Olivier Pescheux. The top notes unfold with bergamot, pink pepper and helichrysum; the heart reveals Haitian vetiver and leather; while the base notes settle with ambroxan, Akigalawood, Indonesian patchouli leaves and cocoa pod.

Very strange perfume… sometimes I smell it as rancid and sometimes passable. It’s citrus with leather, an oily scent, despite not having pineapple as its note, I sometimes smell the pineapple note and it doesn’t convince me. Longevity of approximately 5 hours.
Smells very rich, fresh and versatile, great for daily use. The problem on my skin at least is the longevity, it doesn’t last me even 3 hours, there are Zara perfumes that perform better than this one.
The Montblanc Explorer has gained much popularity due to its resemblance to Creed Aventus. However, although it shares certain nuances with the famous Creed fragrance, in my opinion it doesn’t reach being a direct clone. It has that fresh, fruity, and slightly woody air that recalls Aventus, but with less depth and without the same sophistication in its evolution. One of its weak points is its performance. The trail is rather moderate and the longevity leaves something to be desired, especially compared to other fragrances of the same style. It could be disappointing for those seeking something with more presence and longevity. However, if we consider its price, it remains an interesting option within fresh and versatile fragrances. Still, if you’re looking for an affordable alternative with a similar profile, Zara’s Vibrant Leather offers a fairly similar experience for less money. When to use it? The Montblanc Explorer performs better on sunny spring days, fresh summer days, and during autumn. I would not recommend it for winter or situations where you need a fragrance with high impact. In summary, it’s an easy-to-wear fragrance with a pleasant and versatile scent, but with improvable performance. A valid option for those who want an inspired (not identical) Aventus fragrance without paying an exorbitant price, although there are more affordable alternatives with a similar result.
Good fragrance for daily use. I liked it because it’s fresh, with a well-marked woody scent, although it has that smoky touch that sometimes annoys me. It’s a well-executed dupe of Creed Aventus. To use in summer, spring, and autumn; personally, not so recommended in much heat due to that smoky touch. Ideal for going to the office, inspires quite a lot of neatness. Usage: daily. Work, meetings, classes. Doesn’t disappoint. Fragrance: 3.5/5. Projection: 3.5/5. Longevity: 3.5/5. Good fragrance, for daily use. Of a youthful tint and stretching towards the formal. Quite versatile, performs well and achieves compliments.
This perfume, upon first spray, is fresh and has a quite pleasant citrus touch. However, in its dry-down, I don’t know why sometimes I like it and sometimes I don’t. In that stage, it has a woody scent that is good. It has a longevity of 7 hours and a decent projection. For the price you pay, I think it’s worth buying.
They say the Montblanc Explorer, Club de Nuit Intense Man, and L’Aventure Al Haramain are dupe of Creed Aventus. I can’t say how similar they are to Creed because I don’t know it very well, but I do say this Explorer is the best and the one I would choose among these three supposed inspirations. The other two Arabic fragrances seem too synthetic and strong in a bad way; in contrast, I perceive this Explorer as less synthetic, more refined and elegant. However, I must say it’s not a fragrance for everyone. Personally, it’s not a scent I like; I don’t feel it matches my taste and style. So, if you’re looking for an inspiration or something along the Creed Aventus line, it’s a better option than either of the two Arabic ones in my opinion. If, on the other hand, you don’t know the Aventus DNA, I recommend not buying blindly, but first trying it with a decant.
It’s a fragrance with a citrus and spicy opening, with bergamot and red pepper, interesting in my opinion. As it matures, its profile shifts to a woody and aromatic one, really very pleasant, though perhaps it suffers from being a bit flat, but it smells very good. As for performance, its longevity suits me very well; perhaps it doesn’t excel in projection, but it doesn’t disappoint. As for use, it’s very versatile. It can be worn daily, for slightly more special situations, or at night. I see it as adaptable to any season, perhaps the least indicated being winter.
An invitation to discovery that doesn’t raise its voice but opens paths with contained elegance. From the start, the bergamot shines like a golden compass, while the pink pepper adds a subtle, spiced warmth, like the rustle of an old map. The ylang-ylang wraps everything in a dry breeze and amber, announcing depth without losing freshness. The heart is anchored by Haitian vetiver, earthy and elegant, accompanied by a soft, lived-in leather that speaks more of experience than strength. A sober, precise beauty, without adornments. The base adds character and texture. The ambroxan radiates a dry, almost mineral warmth, like light on stone at dusk. The Akigalawood introduces a spiced, woody nuance with a flash of modern, sober oud. Indonesian patchouli anchors the composition with a clean, earthy stroke, while the cacao pod adds a soft shadow, more suggested than sweet. Everything is measured, without rigidity, with a continuity that needs no imposition. A proposal that wears the jacket of the classic but walks with a contemporary step. It’s not a shout of originality, but a well-executed study on what it means to be sophisticated in an adventurous key. If it were classical music, it would be a Shostakovich string quartet: with buried tension, perfectly structured, sober beauty and contained character. In jazz terms, it would evoke Brad Mehldau: introspective, elegant, impeccable technique and modernity without affectation. What colour? A warm stone grey, with reflections of aged leather and an earthy green background. A sensory journey in neutral, sober tones, but never flat.
I’ve tried it several times and it’s an excellent alternative to Aventus: synthetic but of good quality (Givaudan) with solid longevity, two areas where its rivals, Club de Nuit Intense and Vibrant Leather, fail. In the base, I detect a creamy sandalwood; the ambroxan helps with projection. There’s an undeclared pineapple note, a very aromatic and fine suede leather, like a high-end jacket, and light earthy nuances (the Al Akigalawood is a derived patchouli, closer to wood) wrapped in a fresh, spiced, and citrusy air. Very rich, I think it will be my next purchase. It’s all-rounder, just like Aventus or Green Irish Tweed, suits any situation and climate, except extreme cold or winter.
I swapped the Montblanc Explorer out of my daily routine, even though it was my first designer fragrance and took me a while to warm to it. At first, I smelled it and thought, ‘This is Aventus, but woodier and less fruity!’. When wearing it, that soft woodiness invited me to sniff my neck. It’s 100% masculine. Here, where it’s hot and humid, the truth is, it doesn’t overwhelm or cling to me. I loved it and have no regrets. After a few months, what I find most irritating is the pepper, rather than the initial woodiness, so I no longer wear it daily but keep it for special occasions. If you’re looking for something masculine for the heat that isn’t the typical citrus or aquatic, it’s a very good option.
I got it for a bargain. The resemblance to Creed Aventus gave me confidence, but the truth is, without smelling bad or anything, it doesn’t convey much. At least in my case. Moreover, the black beast with its synthetic touch conveys more to me. It fulfils its function and doesn’t stand out, but it falls short for me. 6.75/10.
I tested this in the shopping centre opposite the Creed Aventus and they are very similar. I bought it for the hype and excitement, seeking that DNA so praised on social media, but I was wrong. It lasts a long time, but the aroma suffocates me; that initial smoky touch that captivated me now gives me a headache. At first it smells of lemon, then drops to smoky woods that don’t convince me. My advice: try it, let it dry, and don’t let yourself be carried away by emotion or hype; it must suit you first, don’t seek compliments. It’s citrus at the start and then smoky woods. I see it for over 35s; it would fit perfectly; I’m 26 and nothing, I’ll try it in winter perhaps, but I won’t change my opinion. I have its sister, the Platinum, and that one I do recommend; it suits all ages and is versatile, although that was a blind buy.
Super versatile; it was one of the first I bought blind. They say it’s an Aventus clone, something like that… I don’t know, they didn’t have Aventus and I haven’t smelled it, but this perfume is great… good price and very good performance… on my skin it lasts up to 8 hours with 2 hours of moderate projection.
It has me smitten; the longevity is perfect. I recommend it for daily office wear, in cold climates with few sprays, and very elegant.
The scent is top, but it vanishes in a jiffy on my skin. I liked the Montblanc Legend Red more. What a pity.
Although I haven’t tried the original Aventus to compare, this smells luxurious: fresh citrus with smoky touches and a hint of pepper that gives it a spark. As it dries down, the acidity fades and the vetiver rises, giving it more body. It’s super masculine, conveying confidence without being too formal. It’s not for all year round; better for outside winter. The projection is moderate, but longevity on skin is a beast, lasting me up to 10 hours. Whatever the comparison with the original, as a perfume in itself it’s a 10, and the best part is the price.
Greetings. I have four empty 100ml bottles and one nearly finished, so it’s time to buy another. The Montblanc Explorer is very well known; everyone knows about it. It’s very similar to Creed Aventus but has its own personality, and women love it. It’s not linear; it has stages, and each one is a delight. It tiring a bit of the nose, which is why many say it ‘doesn’t last’, but I have batches from 2019 to 2023 and it has never failed me. It has a dark and mature air, nothing of those gum and strawberry scents that young people seek today; it’s for old-school men, radical in their masculinity. The presentation is a marvel (Montblanc produces with class) and the quality of the notes too. If you have the guts, buy blind. 10/10.
I love it, smells super masculine and versatile, ideal for everyday wear and the office. I liked it more than the YSL Y (though they have nothing to do with each other) and it surpasses Club de Nuit, which initially smells of stale pine and only improves as it dries, approaching Montblanc. Montblanc is better, more attractive from the start and more refined. Longevity is good, around 6-8 hours with moderate projection, but on clothes it’s noticeable until the next day with just a few sprays. Buy it from the official site.
Smells very similar to Aventus and smells better than Club de Nuit, but it fails at the same thing as the original: longevity is not its strong point.
It’s a cracker, smells like Creed Aventus and tastes rich. I’ve received many compliments, and it lasts much longer than the original, which lately fails on longevity.
It’s a fragrance with a masculine, elegant, and versatile aroma that I loved. Its fixative is excellent; with just a few sprays, it lasts all day, maintaining a fresh and woody scent that doesn’t go unnoticed. Undoubtedly, a great option for those seeking quality and good longevity in a fragrance.
The scent is very pleasant and although it lasts a long time, it projects nothing; on the skin it does last all day. At first, I felt it was very synthetic, but I think it smells better now <3.
I love this fragrance, although the longevity is short, a maximum of 3-4 hours in cool weather. It’s almost identical to Club de Nuit Intense but with a brighter, cleaner bergamot. Between the two, I prefer this one in terms of scent, but it doesn’t last long, so I prefer Club de Nuit. I have both, and on the opening this one is richer; the fragrance is of better quality, but due to the longevity I use the other more. Both are good inspirations of Creed’s Aventus.
The Montblanc Explorer EDP is a masculine fragrance in the Aventus style, similar to Club de Nuit or Cedrat Boise by Mancera. Basically, it’s a blend of citrus and woods, with bergamot specifically. At its sale price, under $80 (35 EUR), it’s an excellent option for everyday wear and very versatile, like Creed’s Aventus. It’s worn during the day for the office, school, or work. In my case, it lasts about 6-7 hours with a projection of an hour or half an hour. It’s a safe fragrance; wherever you go, you’ll smell good and masculine; it doesn’t impress when sniffed but is very respectable from the Montblanc house and perhaps the most iconic in their collection. The only drawback is that, perhaps due to the ambroxan, it smells very synthetic for the first half-hour, which can be a pro or a con; several women like or dislike that sharp initial scent. Once dried, the perfume is much kinder and woodier. Longevity: 3/5, Projection: 3/5, Compliments: 2/5, Price: 5/5.
For me, the best Aventus clone at this price point. Smells super masculine, with juicy leather presence, mixed with citrus and a soft spicy touch at the base. It’s super versatile for any time or weather, ideal for offices or enclosed spaces. Given the price, longevity, and scent, I believe it’s the best option for any man from 20 to 10,000 years old.
Smells incredible and lasts quite a while. Very good perfume.
Gentlemen, I don’t usually use that term, but I absolutely LOVE it! Forget the generic fresh scent that dries out like chewing gum or smells like a hospital; this is another level. It’s the best from Montblanc and, so far, the most incredible fresh fragrance I’ve tried. Explorer is a sophisticated all-rounder: a fresh, slightly sharp citrus opening, drying down to a clean, masculine woody base. Imagine beige bermudas, brown loafers, and a white shirt half-unbuttoned; it’s the perfect combination. It’s received more compliments than L’Homme Idéal, although Explorer is even more versatile. It will never leave my collection; it has something unique today. I’ll be buying the Platinum soon. On me: lasts 8 hours (longer in cold), projection 2 hours, personal cloud 2 hours, trail 4 hours, and sillage 1.5 metres. Recommended for signing, office, dates, and friends. Not for sport or very formal events. Suitable from 15 years old. 7/10: masculine, clean, and attractive.
I own over 40 perfumes, and this one has undoubtedly brought me the most compliments. Today I tested Aventus on one wrist and Montblanc Explorer on the other; guess which one still smells hours later on my skin: Explorer. It’s my absolute favourite for the quality-to-price ratio.
They took the Aventus DNA and trimmed it down to make it more commercial, gentle, and palatable for the casual public. It’s worth noting that ladies tend to prefer Explorer over other Aventus clones or derivatives, so if you’re seeking female attention, it’s an excellent choice. In detail, they made it much less smoky, swapped the fruity notes for soft citrus, toned down the green woodiness, and filled the base with ambroxan instead of moss. They also reduced the slightly bitter touches typical of this DNA in the heart and sweetened it, but without overdoing it.
If you love Aventus, this is a must-have. It feels more refined, and the price is very good. It opens with citrus and spice, then dries down to become woody and mossy. The longevity has dipped slightly in recent batches, but it remains solid. Ideal for any time of year and occasion.
Perfect fragrance for formal occasions or for those over 25 if worn daily. Smells serious, formal, elegant, and with an addictive touch. Fresh, woody, and with that rich ambroxan base. Ideal for making a good impression. Despite moderate performance, the projection helps keep it from being aggressive. Scent 8/10, projection 7.5/10, longevity 7/10.
Exquisite for most occasions. Long-lasting with excellent quality and price if you want to stand out and smell good. Final note: 9.5/10, although on my skin it doesn’t last as long as it should.
I’m 27 and was initially disappointed until I gifted it to someone. Then a friend wore it and I loved it; I realised I hadn’t given it enough time. It’s an acquired taste. For me, it’s a blue fragrance that delivers in every way: dates, gym, signing documents, office, school. Extremely masculine, elegant, citrusy, woody, clean, with a rich green touch.
I’m young and I love strong, formal scents. I wear it for special occasions with a suit or tuxedo, although it also works for smart casual, though there something more citrusy and formal like Sauvage EDP would be better there. It’s for an adult audience, but if you’re young and like strong masculine aromas, this is for you.
Bright and juicy opening of pineapple and citrus. Quick dry-down leaving a woody base. Pity the projection is short; it drops after 15 minutes and stays intimate, though the aroma is exquisite. It’s an Aventus clone, which nowadays isn’t worth it due to the many dupes that smell the same. Among designer clones, the best is Loewe Esencia EDP, which costs double but smells more refined and lasts longer. Montblanc is very good and reapplication doesn’t hurt. Rich aroma, used but infallible. Short longevity, 4-5 hours, but it doesn’t hurt to spray again.
I don’t like the scent, but I emphasise it’s not for everyone. It’s not versatile, very formal, ideal for meetings or interviews. Extremely masculine, for 30 years and up. It’s not suitable for heat or casual contexts; it’s autumnal or wintry.
From the Explorer collection, it’s a great option, a clone of Aventus with slight variations. It has everything in its place: elegant, precise notes, and nothing extravagant. Good performance, lasting all day on clothes with reapplication. Ideal for the office with a business casual or more formal look.
Very alcoholic opening, but becomes more pleasant once dried down, although it doesn’t project as much as claimed. Medium longevity. I’d prefer the quality and aroma of Explorer Platinum a thousand times: this one is fresh and long-lasting, whereas the other leaves much to be desired.
Versatile and affordable scent, though the leather and pineapple combination isn’t for everyone; if you like it, it smells great, but opinions are sharply divided. Lasts a medium amount of time, around 5 or 6 hours, which is decent but not the best. Ultimately, it’s a valid option if you’re looking for something versatile and cheap.
Opens with intense citrus notes. The scent isn’t bad, but it doesn’t immediately make me say ‘this smells delicious’. Curiously, if it smells good to someone else, then I consider it good. In my opinion, it’s a better dupe of Creed Aventus than Club de Nuit.
