New and versatile from Montblanc
A new all-terrain scent from Montblanc
Generic citrus/woody fragrance, smells good, nothing more, tells me nothing. Scant longevity, sillage, and projection. Nothing interesting.
Legend Red by Montblanc is a citrus, aromatic and woody blend. Upon opening, it smells like Versace’s Eros Flame Blood Orange, with a semi-sweet and spicy touch. After an hour, the citrus fades, leaving a more woody base, slightly green with a forest air. In this final phase, it reminds me of Dolce & Gabbana’s K. It’s semi-fresh, ideal for spring, autumn and cool summer days. It suits everything: from the office to casual outings. It lasted me about 8 hours with average projection. Like the whole Legend line, it’s easy to like, a bit more modern and versatile, but I recommend trying it before buying.
I was going to buy the white Legend Spirit and saw this. That intense red caught my eye; I tested it and loved it: very good citrus and fruity, plus its woods. I took it home and still enjoy it; it’s ideal for this spring or summer, although I found the white Legend Spirit more summery, which is also a very good scent. I was pleased with the purchase and have reviewed it on my YouTube channel: Perfumísticas Historias. There I review perfumes I test days in advance. I give it a full pass. Montblanc offers good value for what they give us.
In this ‘new’ launch from Mont Blanc, it has the same citrus base as Legend Spirit, nothing special and without woods. Just ugly, rough sweetness. It’s versatile and that’s it. If you have the Spirit, you won’t miss anything. Rating 4/10
Legend Red by Montblanc is citrus, aromatic, and woody. Citrus opening, similar to Versace Eros Flame due to the blood orange. Also in this phase, it feels semi-sweet and slightly spiced. After nearly an hour, it loses its citrus spark and becomes more woody, slightly green, with a foresty sensation. In this final phase, it reminds me a bit of D&G K. It’s semi-fresh; I recommend it for spring, autumn, and cool summer days. Versatile situations: from office to casual outings. Longevity with me was about 8 hours, with moderate projection. Like almost the whole Legend line, it’s easy to like, a bit more modern and versatile, but I recommend testing it before buying.
In this ‘new’ launch from Mont Blanc, it has the same citrus base as Legend Spirit, nothing special and without woods. Just ugly, rough sweetness. It’s versatile and that’s about it. If you have Spirit, you miss nothing. Rating 4/10.
Citrus leaning towards grapefruit with typical Legend bases. A good flanker for those who like the line and want to vary without losing the essence. Durability unknown; I only tested it in a perfumery. I bet it falls short as is often the case with Montblanc, but this is only known by testing.
It’s good, nothing new, short-lived, and with a personal sillage; the orange is the only thing that sets it apart from its sisters. Not bad, but I expected a little more. Highly recommended for its price-to-quality ratio.
Legend Red, the new flanker of the formidable Mont Blanc. A fusion between The One Gold by D&G (due to the potent blood orange) and the woody dry-down of the Legend line. A rich aroma, good sillage, but low-to-moderate longevity. I see it as a summer scent for hot days or the gym (not my case, haha). It adds little to the Legend universe; only recommend if you catch it on offer. The best of all is the Eau de Parfum: good longevity and a spectacular scent, more mature. The classic EDT could follow, though today its longevity is poor. Thirdly, Legend Night, with a youthful vibe for hitting the club.
Legend Red, a new flanker of the legendary Mont Blanc. It’s as if they fused Dolce & Gabbana’s The One Gold, for that potent blood orange note, with the woody dry-down of the Legend line. The scent is rich, but the trail and longevity are rather low; I see it as a summer perfume for hot days or for heading to the gym (not my case, haha). It adds little to the Legend universe; I’d only recommend buying it if you catch it at a brilliant bargain. The best of all is the Eau de Parfum, with good longevity and a spectacular scent, more mature. I’d follow that with the classic EDT, although nowadays its longevity is poor. Third place goes to Legend Night, which has the vibe of a youthful perfume for hitting the clubs.
Nothing new under the sun. As I went through the stages, I kept thinking: ‘I’ve heard this before, and not once…’. A standard twenty-first-century perfume.
Disappointing this Legend Red by Montblanc: a delicious orange opening, then a citrus note that evaporates from the skin incredibly fast. No longevity or sillage, just another flanker. The bottle is pretty and adds to the collection, but I wouldn’t buy it again; nothing new or different.
Forgive me if this isn’t a proper review, I just wanted to reply to Jhsc… If a perfume doesn’t last… Moreover, if it doesn’t project (how many last twelve hours but project so little that a tear falls off you), then you’ve already bought that bottle. Another one from the same house and model (or sometimes another) won’t be purchased. That bottle will be used up quickly, but when the last drop is gone you’ll already be thinking of another model, another house, and it won’t be due to a lack of options. Arabs sometimes have low prices and other times high, but perfumes that most people notice are being worn because they don’t stay skin-deep for five minutes. I fell head over heels buying the Encre Noir from the nose (never mind the expression), although there weren’t cheap decants either, and what a boring thing that doesn’t project and barely smells skin-deep. It seems (I repeat, seems, because it’s a hard egg to guess) to smell like a damp forest, something like a mysterious Salvador Dalí pour Homme. And sometimes it smells of black ink to me. But it’s almost water and very depressing. I won’t buy another bottle nor drink enough wine. The Salvador Dalí will surely fail. So their move pays off at the start… But then it becomes harder. In the free market there is freedom, and they will know what risks to take…
I agree with everything you said @konvulsion, it’s a pity they last so little. I’m currently leaning towards JPG although they aren’t my favourites, but I feel I get good value from them. The niche is beyond my economic reach.
Juanma, if perfumes lasted longer, you’d spend them more slowly and buy less often. They don’t care about that.
Tested as a gift a year ago. Although I didn’t like it at first, I always give it a spray to let it mature until the truth comes out. The day has arrived: the opening I liked, although it’s not projecting. We were doing well until it disappeared. At a quiet moment at work I sprayed it again, went back to it about 15 minutes later, smelled my hand and it was gone. I don’t work in swimming pools or on hard construction sites, and even in such cases, the scam Montblanc proposed to us with all its pride in 2022 is unforgivable. SHAME.
Tested from a sample gift bought a year ago. Although it didn’t convince me at the time, I always let perfumes macerate until the moment of truth arrives. The day has come to revisit it: the opening pleased me, despite not being intentional. We were doing well until it simply vanished. In a quiet moment at work I applied it, came back fifteen minutes later, smelled my hand and it was gone. I don’t work in pools or construction sites, and even in those cases the swindle Montblanc proposed with all its pride in 2022 would not be forgivable. Shame.
It’s a pleasant fragrance for daytime use, opening very fruity due to blood orange, natural and sweet, with a slightly spiced cardamom. It clashes with woods, mainly cedar and mahogany sweetened by tonka; in the heart notes juniper berries and esclearea add cleanliness and aroma. It will never project much and its longevity is limited despite being an EDP. It’s pleasant, but offers nothing outstanding that invites you to repurchase. For when you don’t know what to wear in warm times, or for your leisure time or an afternoon tea, choose another. For going to the doctor or meeting up, it’s fine. I’m not saying it’s bad or ugly, on the contrary, but I think the performance is inadequate. Perhaps it needs maceration…
My review is unreliable as I only tested it briefly while passing by. It smells fresh, fruity and citrusy at the start, mixed with the rough sensation of sage and berries that give it brightness, a wonderful note. The noble cedar feels soft, although that citrus vigour is never lost. I see it as perfect for dusk.
Opening is slightly fruity, but woods and the sweetness of cardamom dominate.
If you already own Legend or Legend Intense, this is redundant. It smells practically the same as Legend when dried down, but without that soapy lavender touch and with dominant citrus nuances at the start. Still, I prefer the Legend Red because it manages to extend the fruity phase of the original Legend.
Although I see others feel it lacks something, for me it’s a safe bet that anyone will like. The opening is fruity, fresh and cheerful, though gradually it gains seriousness and loses a bit of sweetness. I love the scent; the opening is delicious and I wish it lasted like that, but then it becomes more substantial and serious, which I also enjoy. It lasts quite a while, doesn’t project too much but endures for hours, especially on clothes. Very rich and reliable. Montblanc perhaps doesn’t take many risks, but they do it very well. Scent: 8/10 Longevity: 7/10 Projection: 6/10 Sillage: 6/10 Value for money: 7/10 Blind buy: 9/10 Versatility: 9/10
When applied, it smells very strong and projects intensely over three metres; colleagues who didn’t know what I was wearing told me it smelled good. The first five hours are potent, then it drops significantly and stays in a personal bubble where those passing by can still smell it weakly, and by eight hours it disappears completely even if you bring your nose close. The Legend Parfum lasts longer. For me, the Red smells more intense and richer than the regular version. The regular Legend smells rich but I find it very simple, even in projection, and this version surpasses it, although its longevity leaves much to be desired.
When I put it on, it smells strong, projects more than three metres and those who didn’t know I was wearing it told me it smelled good. The first five hours are a beast, then it drops to a personal bubble where only those close notice it weakly, and by eight it’s gone completely even if you press it against your skin. The Legend lasts longer. For me, the Red smells more intense and richer than the standard; the standard Legend is rich but simple, both in projection and aroma, and this version surpasses it, although the longevity leaves much to be desired.
Starts with a citrus and fruity touch, but as it dries down it leans towards woody notes without completely losing that initial freshness. I arrived with little enthusiasm as other Montblancs like the Explorer or Legend Spirit didn’t suit me, but this one has surprised me: it’s the youngest and cheeriest of the range. Ideal for younger people, it’s not intrusive in the office and perfect for everyday wear or casual outings, although there are better options for evening wear or cold weather.
This is my first review, in a warning mode. I share the positive things said about it; it is a delight, but when I applied it to my skin, I had an unpleasant surprise. As it dried and evolved, the scent turned very similar to a freshly wet nappy; to be precise, the smell of hot urine. Although it was a note that was felt at times, I could not stop feeling it. I had liked it and decided to ask for it to be applied to my skin; I am glad I did not buy it.
It is a very rich perfume, but it lasts less than a fart in a basket, and that makes me sad. I bought it at a freeshop on the Buquebus, and due to the lack of signal on the boat, I could not check the longevity on Fragrantica. Had I known it lasted so little, I would not have bought it. Leaving the longevity aside, the smell is rich, very masculine, fresh, and as it should be. What a pity about the longevity.
Hello, tasty scent that does not disappoint in aroma. Manly and perfect as a signature for moderate temperatures. The only flaw is that longevity and projection only meet the bare minimum… though one must consider how affordable it is to judge it properly. Buy if you catch it on offer. Rating: 7.5/10
A pleasant perfume that does not disappoint in scent. It is masculine and perfect as a signature fragrance for moderate temperatures. The only problem is that in longevity and projection it just about meets the minimum, although one must consider how economical it is to judge it properly. I recommend buying it only if you find it on offer. Rating: 7.5/10.
Good morning! I bought this fragrance on a weekend trip for $35. The scent is fresh and citrusy, excellent for summer and for carrying in a toiletry bag or travel case, although the longevity is scarce, about 3-4 hours. For the price, I cannot complain, despite it being an EDP. It was a good blind buy: versatile and elegant without being overpowering. For everyday wear, I would give it a 7.5 out of 10; I would buy it again if I find it at a good price.
My wife bought this for my birthday; she has no idea about perfumes, haha. At first, when I applied it, it smelled of pure citrus lemon and I did not like it. I put it aside for a year until one day, after getting out of the shower, I applied it. At first it still smelled of lemon, but afterwards it improved immensely; that lemon mixes with the woody touch to create a very rich citrus-woody scent. Now I like it and I think it is a good perfume; that said, I see the projection and trail as medium/low.
It is a light fragrance, between citrus and woody, but not heavy. I like it for everyday wear, for the office, or for a night out with friends. It is not complex or anything extraordinary, nor is it bad. It has a very affordable price.
It came as a gift when I bought a Montblanc Explorer. It is ideal for going to the gym, nothing more or less. It smells rich, refreshing, bright, and energises you. It projects for a while and then settles right against the skin and that’s it, finished.
Personally, I think it is the perfume I would use if my grandfather were wearing it. It does not smell bad, but it is definitely not for me.
I expected more. Knowing the Legend, I thought it would be similar but with the blood orange to make it citrusy. In reality, while you do feel the orange and grapefruit, they are dry, like talcum powder. It is not refreshing at all; in the heat, it smells like fresh antiperspirant deodorant after a shower. It is not a bad scent, but I would not buy it again. Nothing like the bottle matches the smell. A thousand times I prefer the Legend or the Legend Spirit.
There are perfumes that etch themselves into memory because of the moments they seal. My wife gifted me this for our civil wedding, breaking the sobriety of the Legend line with something more dynamic. It opens with a juicy blood orange that gives you energy, but what captivated me is its evolution: grapefruit and sage give it a clean, herbal masculine body that settles on a comforting base of cedar and sandalwood. It is neither sweet nor cloying; it has a sophisticated, spicy freshness. On my skin, it lasted excellently for the event, with a trail that was present but polite. It is the scent of a man who knows what he wants and will have a place of honour in my collection.
