Too expensive for what it offers. I would prefer YSL Opium pour Homme a thousand times if you are seeking that sweet and spicy DNA. Opium lasts longer (L’homme aux gants lasts 8 hours on skin, Opium 9-10), is more explosive, and costs a third less.
Reading the name, I thought of a classic masculine leather scent, but I was wrong. The opening has an acidic touch, more herbal than nutmeg. A few minutes after applying, the super-creamy vanilla lifts the projection, accompanied by a woody base and a slightly smoky hint from a very soft oud, nothing dirty. The benzoin ties all the notes together perfectly. After an hour, the herbal touch returns. Longevity and projection are moderate, a pity given the price. If you like vanilla, buy it confidently for men; for women, I recommend trying a decant if you are not used to more masculine aromas.
L’homme aux gants by MDCI, created by Nathalie Feisthauer, pays homage to Titian’s ‘Man with a Glove’, the Venetian Renaissance painter. The work depicts an elegant young aristocrat adorned with jewels and leather gloves, projecting a noble and melancholic attitude. The perfumer translates that softness, warmth, and suede texture with delicate, creamy, and woody notes. It is another masculine fragrance from the collection inspired by paintings, alongside ‘Cuir Cavalier’ by Géricault. While the former evokes the calm of a Venetian aristocrat, the latter captures the vitality of a hussar in battle. MDCI releases odd-numbered years for men and even-numbered years for women.
The moment I tested it, I knew the bottle was mine. Ideal for those who love mixing vanilla with animalic touches; it gives me warmth, calm, and allure. It exudes class and quality in its notes, already one of my favourites. Imagine premium vanilla on a flawless suede glove, like the one in the box’s artwork, dusted with vanilla. Totally unisex. The only downside: at this price, I expected better longevity. My trick: spray it on the shirt collar, and it lasts all day. On skin, it endures 4-5 hours. If you enjoy vanilla and animalic scents, test it before buying, as it is quite particular.
