I bought it and was pleasantly surprised. It has an uncommon scent, sensual, mysterious yet soft. I like it for summer nights; it’s one of my favourites for that time of year.

  • It seems Yves Saint Laurent is trying to confuse us with so many Opium flankers. Why not put the subtitle ‘Vapeurs de Parfum’ under ‘Opium’ on the bottle? They try to use the powerful name to attract buyers, but if you’re expecting another Opium you’re mistaken. It’s a suggestive fragrance, but it shouldn’t be related to its predecessor; it’s better presented as an independent creation to do it justice. Vapeurs de Parfum is a blend of orange blossom and citrus, somewhat synthetic to me, but they combine well with incense and spices. Pink pepper stands out, so present in youthful and feminine perfumes. Typical oriental genre ingredients aren’t noticeable, little benzoin, which distances it from its older sister. It’s delicate, sweet and powdery, with an incense nuance at the end, less fresh than a typical summer perfume. It only lasts two hours on my skin. Not bad for a summer flanker.

  • I tested it in warm weather, ideal for summer. It feels right at home. To me it feels a bit synthetic, but I don’t dislike it, it feels good. I’d wear it in seaside settings. It made me think of my maternal family’s village, by the beach, smiling, witty, coquettish, cooking, generous mothers. Moderate trail but noticeable and attention-grabbing at a short distance. On my skin I sensed benzoin, a soft kick of nutmeg and very soft incense, almost like perfumed powder. Dusty jasmine and green orange blossom, creamy amber. The top notes (mandarin and pink pepper) passed by too quickly, I didn’t sense them. I didn’t love it but I liked it; it’s a working alternative for the beach. I agree with Maeva, they could have presented it under another name; I don’t see much relation to Opium.

  • Sirens’ Call is a summer discovery. At first it’s citrusy, mandarin and sharp orange blossom, like diving into a pool, fresh and sweet. Then it gains sweetness, becoming floral and spiced, creamy and deep. Jasmine, vanilla and nutmeg with a halo of incense, like night mist on the high seas. Pink pepper and benzoin make it dense and long-lasting. Amber appears at the end. A texture that goes from effervescent to smoky, creamy and dry. It’s a perfect blend, nuances of a summer day. The incense makes it enigmatic, the fresh citrus, the tropical flowers and vanilla, the spices add depth. It’s not overly sweet, tending towards a clean, soapy neutrality. It’s not oriental, it’s a light spiced/vanilla scent. After 12 hours it lingers on the wrists, more on the clothes. Sensual, warm and refined. More wearable than other Opiums, it gives an impeccable and professional image. It adds personality and maturity, it’s not common, it has spices but doesn’t overpower, only warm and mysterious aspects under formality. No intrusive notes. Perfect for summer, formal or informal; people find it pleasant and it doesn’t fade easily. In cooler weather the warm side stands out more, it also works for winter.

Floral oriental, warm and soft, with a sensual touch that intoxicates. It opens with mandarin and pink pepper, moves through jasmine and orange blossom, and settles with incense, vanilla and woods. Ideal for everything; it doesn’t overpower, its trail is delicate and elegant yet youthful. It evokes a confident, warm and mysterious woman. One of my favourites for daytime and summer afternoons.
