For me, the best of Polo. A rich fruity aroma; it doesn’t smell as much of alcohol as Blue. It’s perfect for daily wear, timeless, and looks luxurious in the office.
One of my favourites, a unique and totally versatile scent. Fresh, citrusy, sweet, elegant, with a woody and enigmatic touch. It suits all seasons, day and night, formal and informal. The scent isn’t overly intense, lasts between 5-6 hours, and I think it suits all ages.
I tried it and loved it. Eight hours later, my son, a metre away, commented that he could smell my perfume. I noticed it on my skin twelve hours after application. One of my favourites.
A completely recommended classic.
One of the few recent Ralph Lauren men’s fragrances worth saving (the brand has been struggling with quality lately). The best thing about Polo Black is that the reformulation didn’t ruin it like they did to Blue or the utterly massacred Green. I like the fruity-summer concept with a nocturnal edge, featuring cold mango giving way to citrus. The only downside is average performance: low longevity (max 4-5 hours) and a projection that isn’t particularly notable.
I bought Green, Red and Black in 118, 125 and 100 ml. I gifted one to my dad; I thought he’d stick with the Green. Mistake… the ultimate test. The Green brought back memories for him, but being classic, he no longer chose it. He liked the Red, but tried the Black. The Black surprised us: like Paris Hilton for Men but less synthetic and more masculine. It was the winner of the trilogy. It’s magic, as mentioned on Fragrantica. I love it and hope to buy it soon. I give it a definitive 9 despite the short longevity.
I enjoy olfactory challenges like Sauvage, A*Men or Polo Red Extreme; I didn’t like them at first but we got along well afterwards. With Polo, that’s the only thing that’s happened: the blue line is pleasant, but the Black is my first and has a particular scent. That mango and sandalwood note is a unique proposal. Longevity isn’t great (4-5 hours), but I tested it in the cold; it seems more autumnal or spring-like. Welcome, Polo Black!
It’s not a black beast as it seems; it’s citrus with sweet accords. I’d wear it to the shopping centre or for a stroll; I recommend it for going out with a friend to convey peace. Versatile for day and night. Projection and longevity aren’t quite as optimal as Polo Blue or Green. It’s for young adults starting life: working, looking after the car, going out. Calm yet seductive; if the wearer is a Casanova, the girl won’t forget the scent. It has that upper-class Ralph Lauren feel; frankly, it’s not common to see it. The mango gives that carefree sweetness. Longevity: 4/10. Projection: 6/10. Masculinity: 5.5/10. Sensuality: 4/10. Overall rating: 5/10.
A fruity fragrance, nothing dark, with a touch of jejeje. The frozen mango with absinthe stands out before yielding to woody notes. Ideal for spring and summer, fresh yet not citrusy but fruity. Formal; pairs well with black trousers, a white shirt and a black tie, with a sexy edge. Longevity 6 hours. Versatility 8/10. Originality 7/10.
I wore it from 19 to 25 and now, at 32, I’ve got it again. It truly captivates; it remains one of my favourites. Very versatile across weather, time of day, occasions and ages. Simply a gem in perfumery.
A truly exquisite fragrance, especially when first applied. Smells of exquisite citrus and watermelon. Projection isn’t great after an hour or two. However, it is a wonderfully rich perfume
On the brand’s page there’s a guy with a black bottle saying ‘parfum’, they’re the new design type, like a canteen; is the EDP coming? Does anyone know?
Delicious, sweet citrus, nothing new
Pleasant, a well-fruity citrus. I use it occasionally for work, but it’s not particularly interesting. Lasts less than I’d like
EXTREMELY VERSATILE fragrance, masculine and to everyone’s taste. Suitable for summer or winter, for a twenty-year-old or a fifty-year-old. For parties or the office. For me, it’s the best of Polo. Normal longevity. In short, it’s exquisite… but a ‘marketer’ won’t admit it because it’s ‘Polo’ and because ‘there’s no YouTube review’ 🙁 It’s quite fresh and not sweet at all, contrary to what some wrote or what Fragrantica says; NOT SWEET. 👌 Remember it’s aquatic and fruity… (obviously it’s not new… it’s been around nearly 18 years u_U* hehe)
This is, by far, by far, my favourite for evening. Longevity isn’t high and the sillage is short, but wearing it on my skin really boosts my confidence
Smells fantastic, very fruity with a green touch. Not groundbreaking, but it delivers. Perfect for daily wear, fresh, akin to Lacoste 12.12. White. Moderate longevity and sillage
For some reason, putting it on gave me nausea; could it be the absinthe?
The tropical note is non-existent; it’s simply a sweet, acidic citrus scent
Very fruity, super cheerful, I absolutely love it
Fruity opening but very mature; nothing childish like One Million or similar scents such as 212 Black VIP. This is for mature men, with a light sweet tropical fruitiness like passionfruit, mango, or watermelon. It has a very good dry-down where tonka vanilla and herbal notes appear. Longevity 6-8 hours, almost all-rounder, but I don’t see myself wearing it in summer at 30 degrees or more. Wide trail but not suffocating. 9/10. The fruity opening could have lasted longer.
I tested it on skin and it’s slightly fruity and herbal in the opening, but as it dries quickly, marine-mossy notes emerge, similar to Aqua di Gio, and it becomes akin to Lacoste L.12.12 Blanc, that is, a fresh marine aroma with tangerine. Those who like marine scents will like it. I don’t like them, so it wasn’t to my liking. It has something of the Polo DNA but almost nothing else. Being fresh and marine, I can’t imagine it for the night, and I don’t understand its ‘Black’ designation. I didn’t smell any mango or habanoka. Applied on paper and clothes, the sweet notes of the orange and the Polo DNA last a bit longer and feel very pleasant, but then the marine notes emerge, so I recommend testing it on skin to avoid surprises with the dry-down.
It’s hardly tropical at all; it’s a very green, rich but fleeting mango, with very fresh woody notes that I like a lot. Easy to use and very masculine, but with poor performance.
It’s neither sweet nor citrusy. It’s a fruity marine (tropical) scent and obviously the mango note is barely noticeable; the mango note is just like that. I have more than four perfumes with mango and they’re all the same. Have you ever smelled a mango? Its scent is soft and green.
I just bought it and it’s not tropical or sweet at all; it’s a very fresh, woody, masculine scent, similar to Polo Blue, easy to wear day or night in autumn and winter, and only at night in spring and summer.
The only ‘sweet’ thing it has is the habanoka touch… but no, gentlemen, that doesn’t turn it into a sweet fragrance… 🌝
A masculine yet versatile fragrance. It’s male but has a sweet, tropical, and fresh edge; I don’t know how to explain it… perhaps that’s why this Polo is more recommended for young people aged 25+, unlike Polo Green. Normal longevity; I recommend it for a spring night.
If you like Armani Code, this follows the same path… fresh and versatile 🔥🤙 The hint of habanoka makes it nocturnal and the mango gives it a tropical and original twist 🤙 (Ridiculous that some people think applying just two sprays is enough for projection…)
Nothing sweet; it’s a totally tropical fragrance, ideal for summer and spring, with priority use at night. If you’re in a tropical climate in winter, you could wear it during the day. I wouldn’t recommend it for extreme climates. It’s been my signature scent since I can remember.
Polo Black by Ralph Lauren. It tried to replicate the success of its predecessor (Polo Blue) but failed to do so. I was expecting something beastly and was disappointed. For instance, it’s almost impossible to find, whereas Polo Blue continues to sell well and has many derivatives. Notes of tropical fruit with a touch of cinnamon and resinous woods. Moderate opening, weak projection, and an almost non-existent trail. I recommend it for an autumn or spring night. If you want projection, use more than 10 sprays. Rating: 5/10
A very generic, short-lived fragrance; my wife didn’t like it and neither did I much; the scent doesn’t stand out at all.
Light orange, ambered, slightly bitter, mossy and marine. I perceive it as a much less intense version of Aqua di Gio Profondo. I don’t understand why it’s called ‘black’ if the scent has nothing dark about it.
I like it very much. Suitable for the office in autumn and winter. In spring, only after 6:00 pm. Summer? certainly not. This fragrance is serious, but not old-fashioned. It’s not for children; it’s for someone over 30 in a professional setting.
Delicious and versatile fragrance where fruity notes take centre stage; pity the performance leaves much to be desired. On my skin it lasts about two hours projecting and five on the clothes. It’s a good scent, but feels familiar across many perfumes; for a lower price, you could find something similar. If you’re looking for something simple without breaking the bank and without demanding long-lasting power, this is your option. My critical rating is 6/10.
I picked it up for $75 for the 125ml bottle and took advantage, as it’s extremely pricey in Argentina. It’s a delight, with mango notes coming through at first. Pity the short longevity: four hours on skin, one hour projection and a low trail over a short distance. Not sensual enough for a date; I see it as a scent for a well-tailored shirt. Worth it if you adore the aroma, as there are few men’s perfumes featuring mango.
I love the mango note; it makes it addictive. Very good for the office or meetings, versatile. It’s not overpowering, but it fulfils its purpose. Polo should step up and launch a refreshed version like they did with Blue and Red. Decent longevity; similar to the Blue EDT, on my skin it lasts a bit longer. I feel it’s undervalued.
Deep, embracing, casual to semi-formal. It truly smells like a man; Ralph Lauren shines with woody, aromatic and fruity notes, especially a delicious mango 🥭.
I love it: the mango note is there, it’s not spicy, it’s versatile, elegant and rich. Top-notch quality, though it doesn’t last long and has weak projection; it’s very good. For dressing up or work, I can’t imagine it in 30-degree heat. I recommend it, but not blindly.
Is there anything more versatile than this? No, I don’t believe it…
From the Polo family, this is the least celebrated; while Red and Blue boast hordes of fans and clones, Black remains overlooked or hard to find. The top fruity scent doesn’t quite match its black name: for me, it’s orange or yellow, tropical, fresh, sweet and citrusy, perfect for bright, cheerful days. Mango and tangerine are noticeable, like a multi-fruit juice or salad base, with a spicy edge of ginger (or patchouli, according to the notes). It’s rich, yet leaves no lasting impression; compared to the addiction of Red or the foolproof freshness of Blue, I understand its lack of staying power and clones.
