Brutal and spectacular, it smells different from the rest. It’s persistent and intense, very sweet with vanilla and honey. People were blown away when they heard me at the counter. I love that it’s clinging to all my clothes… oh, it’s like an orgasm, except I want to put it on more and more. It’s an addiction!

Brutal, spectacular and different. Persistent, intense and very, very sweet: pure vanilla and honey. When I bought it, people were left speechless by the scent. I love that it’s stuck to all my clothes… ugh, it’s like an orgasm, except I want to wear it more and more. It’s a drug.

The Montale brand isn’t my forte in niche perfumery; the ones I’ve tried, like Black Aoud, sounded synthetic and crude to me, but this is a gem. It’s a super-sweet gourmand that starts with almond and vanilla, almost feminine, then mixes in honey to become darker and more masculine. At the end, after about eight hours, I detect sweet tobacco. It’s unisex, dense yet simple, with few notes that sound natural and well-crafted here, even addictive in the mid-phase. It’s not cloying, although its extreme sweetness and huge longevity could be a subjective drawback. If Cnidaria marks me down as a novice in the genre, I admit it: it’s an excellent gourmand, potent and long-lasting, one of the best I’ve tried in years.

Montale Paris isn’t usually my strong suit in the niche world; the ones I’ve tried, such as their star Black Aoud, have felt a bit heavy and synthetic, none of which really suited me. This, however, is a small exception. It’s a super-sweet gourmand where almond and vanilla come out at first, with an almost feminine air. Gradually, honey blends in, making it darker and more masculine. In the final phase, which takes quite a while to arrive (perhaps over eight hours), I detect something like sweet tobacco, or at least that sensation. I think it’s a totally unisex perfume. Despite being very strong or dense, it’s a fairly simple fragrance with few notes; unlike other Aoud series scents, this one seems quite natural and well-executed, even becoming addictive, especially in its mid-to-final phase. It doesn’t come across as cloying, though at times it feels excessively sweet, and given its enormous longevity, that could be a minor drawback, although it’s very subjective and depends on the occasion. Risking that Cnidaria might give me a few ear-pulls, since this genre is their speciality and I’m quite a novice, I’d say it’s an excellent gourmand, with impeccable performance, one of the most potent and long-lasting I’ve tried in years.

  • Almond opening, with honey and a bit of rose, but practically imperceptible. Afterwards it becomes a bit more powdery and the vanilla takes ground. The longevity and projection are both excellent, there’s no doubt about that. Although it’s unisex, I see it leaning towards the feminine side due to its powdery character. I see it more suited for use in cold climates.

  • Almonds, vanilla and honey. This is one of the wildest olfactory bombs I know. The almond opening and shortly after it’s as if you’ve just put them on a plate of crème brûlée the size of the world, the burnt crust made with caramel and honey. Smells very good, a lot. It’s invasive, wild and you have to be careful not to overapply because it can suffocate you and your surroundings. I think it’s unisex but a bit more feminine. Zero discreet, very sweet, invasive and a fragrance to tell the world ‘here I am’. Clothes stay impregnated with this scent for weeks. It’s all-terrain and very provocative. Projection of three metres and longevity projecting for 10 hours and on skin another 24 (it even withstands showers). Note: 8. Would I buy it: Not for me, but yes for my wife.

Sweet Oriental Dream is the orgy of sweetness in fragrance format. The almond takes on incredible importance in this perfume, which is ravishing in sillage and longevity like many Montales. The truth is you don’t gift these, but these characters serve to let you smell for hours; depending on how lightly you hold the spray, radiation sensors could detect it… what a beast, how it oozes; some houses could take a leaf out of its book for charging the same for nothing smelling. I understand a perfume isn’t a walking skunk… but at least let the wearer be smelled. As I said at the start, the almond is the protagonist of this sweet bacchanal along with very cloying honey but with some very real, lovely, natural rose notes, as many Montale examples smell syrupy and this one doesn’t so much. Although the rose is noticeable at times, the reality is it’s a wild party that makes all your teeth fall out at once upon smelling it. In my perception, it’s an elegant perfume, that even with excessive sweetness, worn in the right season and with moderation, dresses both men and women appropriately, because it’s not so banal even though it’s hyper-sweet.

  • Sweet Oriental Dream by Montale. Sweet, but truly so. On my skin, the almond and honey really stand out. The longevity and projection are incredible, ideal for areas with harsh winters. It’s very comforting to wrap yourself in it. Two sprays are enough for the whole day. Despite how sweet it is, it doesn’t smell common or ordinary; it’s quite elegant. I like it.

  • With Montale, you don’t play: the three I’ve tried have brutal sillage and longevity. Sweet Oriental Dream kicks off with an overwhelming sweetness, a hit of vanilla and almond at maximum power, all mixed with honey giving it a gourmand edge. Although the rose, typical of the house, feels a bit light in the dry-down, I think it’s more for a female audience due to this exaggerated sweetness that lasts forever. If you like power-sweet scents, here’s an ideal heavyweight for cold climates and breezy places. Tremendously potent, be careful.

  • I bought it blind for an acceptable price and I don’t regret it. I think this blend of vanilla and almond smells like musk, like a Givenchy Pi or Guerlain Ideal. That makes it a bit more feminine, but I wear it easily without looking like a queen. The sillage is overrated according to Fragrantica, but it’s quite good.

Moved by the flattering descriptions and as a lover of oriental scents, I tried it. The projection was a knockout; it flooded my room with a single spray. The scent is different: syrupy and floral. To me, it smells like Amaretto liqueur, not baklava. I don’t see this on a man; it’s too sweet and powdery to be unisex, ideal for a woman or as a room freshener if not for the price. Clearly for winter, and I don’t know in what occasions. It’s so particular that trying a sample is worth it.

Good heavens! I had high expectations… It’s incredibly potent, too honeyed for me. Super realistic and slightly powdery, nice. If you like honey and vanilla, it’s yours. I have a slight disappointment because I expected my signature almond perfume. I see it as informal and not very versatile, for cold seasons (in summer, bees will attack you). Very well done with brutal sillage and longevity. It’s a nice scent, an olfactory experience. Don’t expect much almond; the honey crowns everything. And the rose… not a whisper.

  • Although I expected Sweet Oriental Dream to be a pure gourmand, on my skin the rose stands out a lot, below the almond. This makes it more bitter than most perceive, where usually the honey comes out on top. It’s a different perfume and worth it for its magnificent trail and longevity and its particular aroma. On me, the blend of almond and rose is unique and interesting; the honey and vanilla are in the background, subtle at first. Over time, the rose disappears and only almond and vanilla remain. Curiously, I notice less honey, although perhaps it comes out better with more heat. It lasts 9-10 hours. I like it a lot, but Sweet Vanilla still wins me over in this house. Update: it has become increasingly addictive. Now I notice the honey with the almond and a soapy touch that makes my mouth water thinking of Arab sweets. I love it! Scent 8.5/10, Longevity 10/10, Sillage 8/10, Value for money 7/10, Packaging 8/10. Would I buy it again? Yes.

  • Although I expected Sweet Oriental Dream to be predominantly gourmand, on my skin the rose stands out, beneath the dominant almond. • Hyper-realistic honey, almond and a touch of vanilla. I don’t detect the rose. It doesn’t smell sexy or elegant, but rather like walking into a house on a cold winter’s day. It’s a perfume for personal enjoyment and I find it addictive. The fixative, as with any good Montale, is eternal; two sprays are more than enough.

  • I adored this perfume; I’m a lover of sweets, and this takes the crown. The opening is strong but delicious; I wore it on the 31st and it lasted all night; I could still smell it seven hours later projecting to half a metre. It remains sweet and almond-y; I detect the rose little. I applied it to my son and he liked it, but I find it very feminine. In the last hours, it smells powdery, dusty, enveloping, and sensual. I really loved it.

What joy to receive my Montale box! It took nine days to arrive in Spain. This fragrance is different from what I expected, for the better; I was expecting something like Lady Million with honey, but it has nothing to do with it (better so). The dry-down reveals the almond after 2-3 hours. At first, it’s sweet, like toffee caramel with milk, with an oriental touch I can’t quite place. It’s an oriental gourmand; it reminds me of Hypnotic Poison or Dior’s Poison when dry, due to the shared almond, vanilla, rose, and honey. Sweet Oriental Dream is from the same family: strong, oriental, and sweet, with honey leading to a creamy base. There’s only one thing left to see if it projects and has staying power; they say it’s a Montale bomb.

  • Nice perfume, but the opening is half Johnson’s Baby lotion, half almond oil. Very powdery. At first, I smell raw almond with floral touches; the honey doesn’t dominate but mixes with the vanilla, which I appreciate, adding sweetness. The dry-down is the best: crème catalane with vanilla, burnt honey, and white musk, a delight. I don’t find it elegant, but comforting. I wouldn’t buy it again. However, the longevity and sillage are infinite. Edit: It has won me over more; now I clearly smell the honey and rose. If you like this scent, buy it; it’s cheap and the most long-lasting I own. I wear it to go out and get compliments, and at home, it brings me peace. I’ve tried layering it with Light Blue or Fancy, and it worked brilliantly for summer.

It’s a perfume that boils down to three notes: almond, powdery, and vanilla. I don’t detect the honey, and the overall effect is synthetic, like brand-new rubber dolls straight out of the plastic. The rose pairs with the almond at the start but then disappears, leaving just vanilla and powder. The longevity and sillage are a shadow of what people say; for a little more, you could get a Tom Ford Noir Extreme with better quality vanilla and longevity. This Montale smells like almond and vanilla lotion or baby cream.

  • ThetioLui

Summarised in three notes: almond, vanilla and talc. I didn’t detect any honey, and the overall scent is very synthetic, like brand-new rubber dolls straight out of the plastic. The rose pairs with the almond at the start before disappearing, leaving only vanilla and talc. The longevity and sillage, which are claimed to be phenomenal, are now a shadow of their former selves. For a little more, you get a Tom Ford Noir Extreme (100ml for €120 on offer) with superior-quality vanilla and much better longevity; it’s unisex, although it’s often marketed as masculine. Quality has a price, and it’s worth investing in it rather than going for inflated perfumes driven by ‘hype’ or the ‘hype and hoopla’ of reviewers, as they are very similar and add nothing new. This Montale smells like almond and vanilla aftersun lotion or the heads of those chubby dolls.

  • LindaDenise

I didn’t smell any honey whatsoever; it smells like baby wipes. Although it wasn’t what I was looking for, it has a powdery sweetness that hooks me. If you like this kind of scent, you’ll tolerate it; if not, don’t bother. It reminds me of Mancera’s Black Vanilla.

  • I love it! Very good trail and longevity. It is very powdery and sweet. I am addicted to it.

  • anamaestracorreo

The scent is as if you take Johnson’s Baby Almond Oil, mix it with the musk from Kenzo Flower and sprinkle some ultra-sweet honey. Longevity and projection are very high.

  • Correction: its scent is super almond-y, I detect the honey and it evolves favourably over the hours. Although its DNA resembles Byzantium’s TDO, this is much more powerful, sweeter and the honey stands out more. I don’t understand why they don’t declare an iris note; clearly it carries something for that charming powdery dry down. Scent: 8/10, projection: 9/10, longevity: 10/10.

  • Just arrived, it is very similar to Tesori Beige by Byzantium; right now it smells like it has Tesori but with steroids, baby talcum with something more. But really, if you want to know how it smells, first try Tesori which is worth 9 euros.

  • I bought it completely blindly guided by reviews; fortunately it was a decant because it smells like Johnson’s baby oil. I didn’t like it at all; in my opinion it smells like a new nappy.

  • I bought this fragrance blind, guided by reviews; fortunately, it was a decant because it smells like Johnson’s baby oil. I didn’t like it at all; in my opinion, it smells like a brand-new nappy.

  • I see it as a Western interpretation of a sweet oriental scent, with two clear phases on my skin. At first, a synthetic accord that mixes amaretti cookie scent (or cyanide, to each their own poison) with lots of honey. This honey is not sweet but has that typical urinous tinge of sweet oriental perfumes. As it settles, it improves and, despite maintaining its syrupy tone, the synthetic touches disappear to give way to a powdery vanilla, so dense and talcum-like that I doubt it doesn’t contain orris butter. Nevertheless, I prefer this phase and it keeps that little urinous bit that doesn’t fully convince me. Projection and longevity are excellent: it lasts me all day and on clothes until I wash them. It is VERY sweet for deep winter or cold nights. Despite the sweetness, I would dare to say it is unisex. For me it is comforting, though a bit cloying in the long run: I use it working from home to feel accompanied, I see it well for informal or semi-formal outings. But NEVER in the office, for the possibility of killing whoever shares the space. Pleasant: 6/10, Interesting: 6/10, Versatile: 5/10, Original: 6/10.

  • It is a lovely perfume; it smells like baby oil and doesn’t bother me; I use it to sleep. It makes me feel comfortable at night because it feels soft and powdery, perfect for personal indulgence.

  • ShiseidoTactics

It is quite feminine (according to my standards, I don’t wish to impose), nothing unisex. The opening is scandalous and synthetic, then it settles into a pleasant but intrusive talcum powder scent; beware with the sprays. When dried, it is eminently floral, with the almond aroma noticeable in the mid and dry down. I didn’t detect the honey at any point; I wouldn’t use it myself, but for some women it could be a striking contrast. PS: Montale guarantees very high sillage and longevity, so be careful with the opening.

  • It feels so honeyed and is very realistic. It is sweet and dry, very pleasant without being overwhelming. If you like the honey note, you can buy it blindly. In my case, it was a total success; I perceive it as leaning more towards the feminine side.

  • Smells innocent, tender and cosy; nothing invasive yet powerful, though slightly synthetic at first. The almonds are sweet like sugar, while the honey blends sweetness with a hint of acidity without any bitterness. It is true that it evokes Johnson’s baby oil, which breeds love or hate. Although some might find it odd or childish, for me those scents are special, lovely and addictive. On my skin it leaves a fresh, herbal touch like tea, perhaps due to that semi-acidic honey, and lasts about an hour. It is a special perfume, but I wouldn’t buy it blindly.
