The Brilliant Game by Davidoff is a woody oriental fragrance for men. Launched in 2014, the nose behind this composition is Jacques Huclier. The top notes reveal Campari, red berries, vermouth, bitter orange, lemon and helichrysum; the heart unfolds with cedar and orange blossom; while the base notes close the olfactory pyramid with tonka bean, caramel, coumarin and hay.

It’s a perfume wonder; I was amazed at the first spray with that fascinating aroma. It’s a true delight for the olfactory senses: at first, it smells of sweet orange with a hint of vermouth that dominates the fragrance. Then it fades slightly, almost to skin-level, giving way to an exquisite scent of caramelised citrus fruits. Fixation and trail are average, but if you overapply (as I always do), it lasts all day. It’s one of my favourites so far and I’ll buy another bottle before this one runs out.
Smells very much like One Million and its thousands of clones.
It’s a mix of Polo Red and Joop Homme Wild. Juvenile, overly sweet, and too synthetic for my nose, it ends up giving me a headache. Performance: 4-5 hours of longevity with mediocre projection. To be fair, the price is in its favour, but that’s about all.

It caught me by surprise. I loved its sibling, The Game, with that soapy, aromatic touch, but The Brilliant Game is sweeter, red-fruitier, very Polo Red style but with much more punch. The first few minutes are intense, but let it dry down; it’s a better option than One Million, with less spice and cinnamon, more fruity, and a hint of liquor. Scent: 8.5, Longevity: 7, Projection: 8, Value: 10.

I bought it for those sweet, citrusy liquor notes and, luckily, it hasn’t disappointed. The only downside is it’s 95% identical to my Armaf Extreme Warrior, so owning both feels redundant.
It’s a total gem! Nothing like One Million, I found it very similar to Invictus Victory Elixir and super cheap.
