A characterful, rough, masculine, elegant and classic vetiver. The opening is sharp and fresh, very green, led by vetiver and mint; the combination is excellent. Thyme is noticeable, but on my skin it takes centre stage after ten minutes. There’s almost certainly an undeclared spice, as cumin appears alongside the thyme at fifteen minutes. Here the freshness drops and it becomes warmer and spicier due to the spices and tobacco. By the two-hour mark, the trail sits closer to the skin; the spices fade to reveal a drier vetiver, like grass cut days ago drying in the sun. It remains green, but less fresh, with a smoky, dry touch. The trail is good for the first hour, drops significantly in the second, then settles. Longevity is eight hours. Rating: 7.5/10.
Vetiver Royal Bourbon: An opening with mint and thyme reminiscent of cypress. The vetiver joins fleeting tobacco and juniper (no iris or immortelle). The dry down is defined by vetiver, oakmoss, and leather (no labdanum, styrax, or sandalwood). Projection lasts six hours, lasting more than eight hours close to the skin. It’s a fragrance where vetiver rules from the start. The dry down is very similar to Lalique’s Encre Noire, though less intense, despite lacking cypress. A mature (+50), masculine, and intense scent, not for those who shy away from depth. Suitable only for cold weather, as it becomes too invasive in the heat.
A fragrance with a cutting, strong opening of vetiver and mint, with a medicinal touch. The minty spectrum enhances the woody and herbal notes, adding power and freshness. Then a normal vetiver emerges, warm, well-bodied, mature, rustic and present. This style denotes warmth, formality and maturity. If you don’t like vetiver, avoid it; but if you’re over 35 or enjoy mature, formal scents, it’s an excellent choice.
A sharp, strong vetiver opening with mint, almost medicinal. The mentholated note amplifies the woody and herbal facets, giving it power and freshness. It then evolves into a normal vetiver: warm, full-bodied, mature, rustic, and present. This style denotes warmth, formality, and maturity. If you hate vetiver, put it aside; but if you’re over 35 or appreciate mature, formal scents, this is an excellent choice.
