I absolutely adore the concept behind The Merchant of Venice, with its Venetian maritime inspiration and authentic raw materials. This oriental fragrance showcases the quality of its ingredients and boasts an incredible evolution. Upon spraying, it smells citrusy, but cardamomo dominates the opening. Then comes a green, earthy vetiver, which is the star note. A few minutes later, a very light yet present oud emerges, surprising me as it’s one of the least-voted notes. My favourite moment arrives magically, perhaps an hour later, when benzoin sweetens the vetiver. This original contrast is delicious and addictive. While it seems masculine by Western standards, I wear it without issue and with pleasure. I don’t think it’s for everyone; it’s complex and may require some olfactory work to appreciate. The trail is moderate and lasts 7-8 hours on my skin. I see it as versatile, usable in any season: during the day at work or at semi-formal gatherings. The presentation deserves mention, perhaps the most carefully crafted I’ve seen: the box opens like a book featuring a map of Venetian trade routes. Turning the page reveals the Murano glass bottle ornamented on a satin base with a golden tassel. If you’re seeking an impactful gift, this line is a great option, even if you prefer something with an easier composition. The price is high but not unaffordable; I bought it at an incredible sale. For 90 euros for 50ml with such spectacular packaging, it’s an indulgence worth it for special occasions. Scent 7/10, Longevity 7.5/10, Sillage 7/10, Value for money 7/10, Versatility 8/10, Packaging 10/10. Would I buy it again? Perhaps.
