  Z Zegna New York reminds me in its opening of the smell of the dentist’s office I attend, with a fleeting impression of gourmand alcohol. From the Cities collection, New York is the weakest; its performance is so poor it discredits the experience I’ve had with the Zegna family in a truly alarming way. After two hours, it’s barely perceptible with effort, compared to the 12 hours of Zegna Fresh; this specimen should never have seen the light of day.

  Z Zegna New York is the second in the Cities series I’ve tried, and at least upon leaving, it seemed original (just like Milan), not reminding me of anything else I’ve tested. It has a minimalist style and smells like certain neutral soaps (but with a scent, haha). I’ve always struggled to distinguish notes of drinks like whiskey or rum; perhaps that gives it that watery touch, and I think the herbal note comes from the savoury herb. As it dries down, it becomes creamier, but always very subtle. It’s not one that stands out much, yet it’s persistent and lasted nearly six hours on me. It’s pleasant, though so far I still prefer Milan over this. Despite being classified as oriental, I feel it more as an aromatic woody scent. Worth trying, at least it doesn’t smell that common.
