AntaresAres
An intense rose and unisex fragrance, deeply woody and mysterious. I detect a very strong resinous aroma, highly ambered, warm, and velvety, with an almost incense-like potency. However, the rose isn’t intimidated and continues as the absolute queen of this fragrance, with a majestic presence on its throne of oud. Unbeatable.

Intense rose and unisex, with a woody and mysterious base. There is a lot of resin, very ambered, warm and velvety, powerful almost like incense. But the rose is not intimidated; it remains the absolute queen on her throne of oud. Unbeatable.

Oud Ispahan is one of Dior’s bestsellers, the most oriental and challenging in the collection. It opens with an intense rose, like mosque rose water, accompanied by warm and sweet amber notes. At first, you barely notice the oud or its darkness; the opening seems synthetic and overwhelming due to that sweet rose, but it can vary. Hours later, the rose loses strength and the amber fades, allowing the oud, incense and musk to emerge. That middle point, where everything balances between the cosy rose and the dry oud, is the best: it smells of an oriental mosque with incense smoke and rose-soaked earth. Then the rose disappears, leaving a dark scent with labdanum, oud and a black, animalic musk until the end. The oud is a bit hidden by the incense and musk. The longevity is enormous: 2 hours of rose and amber, another 2 hours of balance, and the following 10 hours the dark phase. Better to test on skin, because in a spray you only feel the incredible middle point, but you don’t know how it evolves on your skin. Considerable projection for the first 4 hours.

Oud Ispahan is one of Maison Christian Dior’s best-selling perfumes, being the most oriental and challenging in the collection. It opens with an intense rose that at times resembles the rose water found in mosques. This rose is accompanied by amber notes that add warmth and a touch of sweetness. On the dry down, the oud and darker notes are barely distinguishable. Personally, I find the dry down somewhat synthetic and overwhelming due to this sweet rose, though this may vary. After a few hours, it reaches a middle ground where the rose loses intensity and the amber becomes less prominent, allowing the oud, frankincense, and musk to emerge. That balance between the warmth of the rose and the darkness of the oud is the best part. You feel as though you’re in a Middle Eastern mosque with wood smoke and floors soaked in rose water. Finally, the rose disappears, leaving a dark scent with labdanum, oud, and a black, animalic musk. The oud doesn’t stand out alone because the frankincense and musk take the spotlight. Longevity is considerable: two hours of rose and amber, two hours of balance, and ten hours of the dark phase. Best tested on skin, as that’s where it truly develops, whereas in a tester you’ll only catch the middle phase. Projection is considerable for the first four hours.

This cologne smells very, very strong and very masculine to me; I can’t detect any floral notes whatsoever. Moreover, it clung to my skin so strongly that there was no way to remove it. A resounding NO: heavy, oppressive, and cloying, with a dark scent. I find nothing beautiful about this aroma.

To me, this cologne smells very strong, very masculine; I don’t see anything floral. It stuck to my skin and I couldn’t get it off. A resounding NO, heavy, oppressive and cloying, a dark scent; I can’t find anything nice about it.

When it arrived and I applied it to my skin, it reminded me of an 80s perfume my mother used (due to its strong composition). A truly delightful fragrance, spiced, rose, oud, and heavily saffron. Just two sprays and it’s done; if you don’t overuse it, it won’t be overwhelming, as its intensity and longevity are incredibly extraordinary.

When I applied it, it reminded me of an 80s perfume from my mother (due to its strength). A delight: spiced, rose, oud and lots of saffron. Two sprays and that’s it; it doesn’t bother you because its intensity and longevity are incredible.

Remarkable Bulgarian Rose blended with oud. Unisex, but leaning feminine. Elegant and long-lasting. Special.

I’ve only had it for a week and it has surprised me for the better. A very good oud and a fine, elegant rose; it reminds me of a rose bush. Acceptable price (40ml for €120). Longevity and projection are enormous. 10/10.

Oud Ispahan (Ispahan is a city in Iran) presents a hard, medicinal, even slightly challenging oud in a traditional formula with roses that reveals it is not at all westernised. It is a fragrance totally oriental in its character, 100% Asian, with the aim of transporting you and offering an experience, not just generating compliments. I love it, but I wouldn’t recommend it blindly. Unisex leaning towards masculine. The quality is outstanding and the development is exceptional. I would love to own it, but the price is a bit prohibitive.

A great perfume and, outside the official notes, I notice it is more masculine… all its notes even seem like the Tom Ford Noir line or Just Jack Arabe’s Black Tuxedo.

My father gifted me this great perfume this Christmas. He knows I adore the collection and this one in particular. I hadn’t bought it due to my issue with saffron, which, although volatile, gets into my brain and prevents me from smelling anything else. Well, Oud Ispahan is no exception. A beautiful rose, with intense and elegant wood, smeared with smoked saffron… beautiful, but it’s not for me. It projects all day and its longevity is nuclear. I will never use it; it’s not my style, no matter how beautiful it is. If anyone wants a change, it is unused; it’s the 40ml bottle… I’m all ears.

Powerful trail and longevity, for lovers of oud scents loaded with roses. Oud Ispahan is refreshing, cosy and tells a real story of distant lands. Labdanum and patchouli are incredible reinforcements to give it power. Performance is excellent, tremendous in projection and longevity. I imagine its power could be polarising for men and women. I think it should be reserved for cold climates and is not ideal if you don’t want to stand out.

The first time I tried it, I had a bit of an ‘accident’ – it ended up on my bed and overwhelmed me to the point of dislike. But with time, I gave it a second chance, and yes, it is a difficult oud; even people told me I shouldn’t wear it, yet this time I managed it better. It didn’t feel very projecting at first, but based on comments I received hours later, I imagine people did notice it. The longevity exceeds 10 hours. When I stepped out, I wanted to check the labdanum because it’s a note I struggle to detect and haven’t quite placed yet, but the perfume smells mainly of a dirty, animalic oud softened by rose.

I like this Dior oud. Generally, I don’t like oud perfumes, but this one is different. The opening is strong, but over time it starts to smell mostly of a very elegant rose; I’d say it becomes slightly more feminine, but perfectly wearable for a man. I don’t detect the patchouli, but I do smell some labdanum; however, what I smell most is oud and roses. It projects well and has good longevity. I see it as a bit more feminine due to the rose, but very usable for a man. I’d say it’s more suited to cold weather.

It’s the twin brother of Oud Touch by Franck Olivier, with about 85% similarity. A fantastic and intense aroma, ideal for autumn and the coldest seasons.
Oud Ispahan reminds me hugely of the classic Byzance by Rochas. In the 80s, my mother wore Byzance; it smelled rich, elegant, and good in both heat and cold. I loved it so much that I’d go to her dressing room, grab the bottle, and marvel at that scent. Recently, someone gifted me a mini of Dior Oud Ispahan, and it brought back memories of that Byzance-like scent, my mother’s elegance, and the beauty of those years of my adolescence. It’s a beautiful fragrance that suits me perfectly, and being oriental, it works well for both men and women.
Oud Ispahan is one of Dior’s best-sellers, the most oriental and daring in the collection. It opens with an intense rose, almost like rose water from mosques, accompanied by warm, sweet amber notes. At first, you barely notice the oud or the dark notes; to me, the opening feels synthetic and overwhelming due to that sweet rose, though it varies depending on who wears it. Over time, the rose fades in intensity and the amber stops dominating, allowing the oud, frankincense, and musk to come to the fore. That middle phase is the best: a balance between the warmth of the rose and the darkness and rawness of the oud and musk. Imagine yourself in a Middle Eastern mosque: the air filled with smoke from woods and incense, while the floor is soaked in rose water. Then the rose disappears, leaving a dark perfume with labdanum, oud, and a black, animalic musk. Here, the oud isn’t the absolute protagonist because the frankincense and musk take some of the spotlight. The longevity is brutal: two hours of rose and amber, two hours of balance, and another ten hours of that dark, deep side. Best to test it on skin, because on a blotter you’ll only feel that incredible middle phase without knowing how it evolves on you. The projection is strong for the first four hours.
I expected to find more reviews of Oud Ispahan. It’s a unisex oud, similar to ‘God Save the King’, but less dusty and more animalic. I still feel the rose is very prominent; initially it smells floral, and by the end, the oud is barely noticeable. I think it’s a step down from Penhaligon’s Sohan in terms of rawness, but above Atkinsons’ offerings. It lasts an eternity on me. My girlfriend loves it. If you find Oud Wood or God Save the King too light and want to step up the rawness, this is the next level.
It’s a blend of rose, oud, and resin that delivers on its promises. Unfortunately, it didn’t work for me: at first, the rose dominates and smells a bit like ‘grandma’. As it dries down, the oud takes over, but given what’s currently on the market, it doesn’t stand out. It surely has its audience, but it’s not for me.
