Descripción
Zaurac by Spirit Of Kings is a 2019 creation belonging to the spicy oriental olfactive family, designed for both men and women. The nose behind this composition is Christian Provenzano. The olfactive pyramid unfolds with top notes of cardamom, oud wood, and Sichuan pepper; a heart of tonka bean, sandalwood, and vetiver; and a warm base of amber and vanilla.

It is the twin of Tom Ford’s Oud Wood: top quality and blend. If the original didn’t exist, this wouldn’t be lost on anything. I was surprised by how potent it is, finer and less earthy than its reference. It lasts about 7 hours with moderate projection.
It is the twin of Tom Ford’s Oud Wood; the quality and blend are top-notch; if the original didn’t exist, this wouldn’t be lost on anything. It is more potent than I expected, finer and a bit less earthy, very close to the original. Performance: about 7 hours with moderate projection.
I agree with @ngarcia; it is a good option to Tom Ford’s Oud Wood, with greater longevity on my skin. He can assure this given that I have tried both.
Certainly a pastiche of Oud Wood, not a shred of creativity, though it would be inaccurate not to consider its wild nature. That subtle, glamorous, slightly sweet and delicate touch of pepper and cardamom found in Tom Ford is not perceived here; the welcome suggests a cocktail of conifers, salty, spicy, and somewhat rough, which I presume is due to the rosehip and woody notes. Longevity and sillage are similar to the original; there isn’t much greater performance as some comment.
It was a blind buy, but honestly, I loved it. I wanted Tom Ford’s Oud Wood but bought this after seeing reviews saying Zaurac was better and much cheaper. I don’t know what Oud Wood smells like, but I rarely hear of a fragrance with so well-executed and realistic ingredients as in Zaurac. It stands out in its opening due to the cardamom note, which initially disgusted me as I’m not a big fan of that scent, but when the juice dried and the notes blended, I changed my mind. The oud is not challenging at all; I’d say it’s perfect for those who want to start in the world of oud. That said, it’s not suitable for under 23-25 years old, unless you’re very mature and enjoy elegant fragrances. Its use is very versatile: dates, weddings, office (if you’re the boss), and basically any situation with at least a polo shirt. I think it works better on cold nights, but if you use it in spring without much heat, there’s no problem, although its performance won’t be the same. Presentation: the box is very lovely and the bottle even more so; the materials look of extremely high quality, the bottle and cap are heavy, but well, this is the least they can do when you pay them 190 euros. Sillage: moderate, but I experience exactly the same thing as with PDM’s Layton, I get bursts of scent from time to time. (It doesn’t smell like Layton, don’t get me wrong). Overall, it’s a very pleasing aroma; I feel it smells like a millionaire, and who doesn’t like money? Honestly, I don’t see why anyone would be uncomfortable, but please don’t make the same mistake I did by buying blind (unless you like the adrenaline, hahaha)

Its oud is not challenging; it’s perfect for starting in the world of oud, although I recommend those over 23-25 or mature people looking for elegance. It’s super versatile: dates, weddings, office (if you’re the boss), or any place with a polo. It works better on cold nights, but in spring without much heat it also works, although performance varies. The box and bottle are gorgeous and of extremely high quality, heavy and worthy of the 190 euros. The sillage is moderate, but I get those ‘bursts’ of scent from time to time, just like with Layton. It smells like a millionaire, and who doesn’t like money? I don’t see why anyone would be uncomfortable, but learn from my mistake: don’t buy blind (unless you like the adrenaline, hahaha).
When the clone is better… Has anyone heard ‘With a little help from my friends’ by Joe Cocker? It is brutally superior to The Beatles’ original, so iconic that many don’t even realise it’s a cover, and the series ‘Wonderful Years’ made it famous. Eighteen years ago, Tom Ford’s Oud Wood marked a before and after in fresh woody perfumes; it blew my mind, and I bought several bottles. With that success, other brands tried to replicate it: Fragrance Du Bois, Nishane, Thameen, and Spirit of Kings. Zaurac is the best Oud Wood (EDP) clone with higher-quality ingredients at a much lower price (and for 100ml). I sense more body and better craftsmanship. It is linear with slightly better performance. It respects the texture of the original but I insist: the only difference is that it feels higher quality and has more body. Comparing clones: Carved Oud (Thameen) is soft and polished, like a sanded and varnished table versus the untreated table of the original, with modest performance. Oud Noir Intense (FDB) dries similarly but has performance below average, neither glory nor shame. Kredo (Nishane) is a strange mix between ‘Unutamam’ and Oud Wood, dense, smoky, spicy and addictive; an interesting twist, a very good Frankenstein. Provenzano did an excellent job with Zaurac; there is no originality but I don’t care. It is an offering of higher quality than the cheap Arabic original; possibly the older brother of Oud Wood (Parfum) with its 445-dollar price for 50ml would be a more balanced comparison.

Eighteen years ago, Tom Ford’s Oud Wood marked a before and after in fresh woody perfumes. It blew my mind, and I bought several bottles. With that level of success, other brands sought to replicate it: Fragrance Du Bois, Nishane, Thameen, and yes, Spirit of Kings. There’s not much to say about Zaurac; it is the best Oud Wood (EDP) clone with higher-quality ingredients at a much lower price (and for 100ml). I sense more body and better craftsmanship. It is linear with slightly better performance. It respects the texture of Oud Wood, also linear, but I insist: the only difference is that it feels higher quality and has more body. My comparison of clones vs Oud Wood (I own and have used them all): -Carved Oud (Thameen): Very soft, more polished, high quality. It lacks that rough texture. Carved Oud would be a sanded and varnished wooden table, whereas Oud Wood is the same table unsanded and unvarnished. Modest performance. -Oud Noir Intense (FDB): Dries very similar to Oud Wood. Performance below average. Neither glory nor shame. The least known. -Kredo (Nishane): A strange mix between ‘Unutamam’ and Oud Wood. Dense, smoky, very spicy and addictive. Great quality. An interesting twist. It takes the best of each perfume, a very good Frankenstein. Provenzano did an excellent job with Zaurac; there is no originality, but I don’t care. It is not a low-quality 30-dollar Arabic perfume, but an offering of higher quality than the original. Possibly the older brother of Oud Wood (Parfum) with its 445-dollar price for 50ml would be a more balanced comparison regarding Zaurac…
Zaurac is what everyone says: a spicy perfume with dark and elegant wood, a happy clone of Oud Wood, very decent and well-executed. I think the only difference, well explained below, is that among the variants, this is the most polished and balanced, although in the dry-down it takes a slightly clean aspect. Having tried the others, I feel it doesn’t surpass the original or Carved Oud, but it’s not bad at all and can be one of the good alternatives considering the price. Rating: 7.5/10.
