I haven’t met a Hugo Boss fragrance I didn’t like, and this is no exception, although (and I don’t know yet) I haven’t included any of them in my top 15 favourites (an injustice?). It’s very exquisite; three of its six notes are citrus, but to me, the ginger, myrrh, and sandalwood seem to dominate. At times, it made me think of very oriental fragrances. In my country (Venezuela), Hugo Boss fragrances are very widespread, and I’d already heard of this from several people (perhaps a negative point), and I noticed something: to everyone who smelled it, it seems to maintain the same essence, defying pH. Overall, it’s a good fragrance, ideal for cool afternoons and casual encounters. It’s youthful.
Boss In Motion Black is, in my view, an improved and slightly more intense version of the base Motion. It’s a tribute to the kumquat note (a dwarf orange), whose atypical citrus sweetness seems to come from a hybrid between orange peel and mandarin. At first, the three citrus notes drop quickly to land on the ginger-sandalwood accord. The blend is very well executed, giving a tonic and robust feel that is appreciated, and that orange border adds an intense, beautiful fruity touch. The myrrh supports the entire top to float out after four hours with slight bitter citrus notes. I liked it quite a bit; I think it’s currently an underrated fragrance that offers more than other orange-based citrus proposals, which tend to be short-lived compared to this In Motion Black, being much less cloying and faddish… in short, it’s very well done. If you’re looking for a safe bet fragrance, this specimen could be a good option. Excellent performance. Note: It’s said to be out of production, but there are still many bottles around at a good price.

Boss In Motion Black has been on the market for over 20 years. It smells of grapefruit, bergamot, and kumquat (Chinese orange), mixed with spices like sandalwood, myrrh, and ginger. The longevity is a low point: the scent fades in minutes, leaving only the kumquat and bergamot at first, and finishing with that spicy touch of myrrh and ginger. For me, the longevity isn’t anything special, but the design with the orange stripe does give it style. Recommendation: Don’t wear it for blind dates, but it is youthful and suits hot, cold, or summer days. It’s fine for the office or school, though I’d recommend using it in moderation. The downside is that it’s hard to get because it’s been discontinued for so long; finding this black ball elsewhere is also tricky. All that’s left is to try the blue and green versions.
