Descripción
Boss in Motion by Hugo Boss is an oriental fougère fragrance for men. Launched in 2002, the nose behind this composition is Domitille Michalon Bertier. The top notes unfold with orange, bergamot, violet leaves, and basil; the heart reveals pink pepper, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cardamom; while the base notes settle on musk, woods, sandalwood, and vetiver.

At first, the top notes are very good, completely citrusy, more towards orange, but as time passes it wasn’t to my liking; I find the fragrance very sharp when smelling it, perhaps the pepper dominates too much. Generally good for hot summers, I don’t recommend it for dates or less for nightwear as I don’t find any attraction notes in it.
At first, the orange and violet leaves feel interesting. Subsequently, pink pepper integrates, which is what I feel most of the spices (the cardamom I don’t feel). The finish is classic, musky and woody. I’ve always found a sweet note, I don’t know if due to the musk, but perhaps that’s why I find it slightly more oriented towards winter or intermediate seasons, given the number of spices it handles. I find it suitable for both day and night. It’s youthful and its best approach is for the office in a somewhat casual and relaxed focus. In my case, the longevity is good, over 8 hours, feeling in that phase more than skin-deep. The trail can go from moderate to heavy if one overapplies. Of the Boss perfumes, I think it’s a contribution and has personality; not outstanding, but more than recent Hugo Boss creations.
Of the Hugo fragrances I’ve liked the most, although it’s true that Hugo’s fragrance line is characterised by its short longevity, I think this is one of the ones with the best fixative. In my case, it lasts about 6 to 8 hours depending, of course, on the amount applied. Anyway, a citrus and woody aroma at the end. I recommend it widely.
Citrus where orange predominates (although they say it’s an oriental fougère). Basil is also noticeable alongside violet, with a woody base; I don’t perceive much vetiver, it resembles Boss Bottled without orange perhaps in its sweetness. I didn’t find it excessively spicy. There was only one sample left in the store; they told me it was discontinued in several places. I found it pleasant with good trail at the start, decaying a bit towards the middle… longevity above average. If you buy it, you won’t regret it; if not, neither will you.
I don’t have much to add regarding this fragrance. I’ll just say that a few months ago, seeing Boss In Motion offers on portals like ‘marketplace’, which indeed appear on this page, its price was through the roof; I think it cost around $100 and even more. It was said to be a fragrance unjustly discontinued, of very agreeable aroma, practically a must-have, worth having. I remember that around 2002 it was quite sought after, recommended, and surely, consequently, mass-produced. Now I notice its price is quite accessible, between $25 and $35 for the 90 ml presentation. Could it be a newly reformulated batch? Is it as good as many claim? Thanks. Best wishes.
This will surely be my next cologne, which I bought for my birthday because I smelled it on an acquaintance and it’s fresh, isn’t it?
I just bought it as a Christmas present for my boyfriend. The predominant top note is orange; it’s citrus in every sense of the word. Once those initial notes pass, the scent becomes softer and you can perceive more of the cinnamon, woody notes, and sandalwood. As a girlfriend, I liked it: it’s fresh, citrusy, and slightly sporty. In my opinion, it’s for a gym day or an informal outing; it’s not elegant or imposing, more casual and youthful. Although I think it’s good, it doesn’t find me attractive, but rather gives a clean, sporty scent. It’s for an active, dynamic man. I don’t know if my boyfriend will like it, but he still prefers Nautica Voyage, which is much fresher.
This perfume is exquisite; it gives that sensation of wanting to devour whoever is wearing it, it’s somewhat citrusy and quite attention-grabbing. I love it and have bought it several times for my partner. I recommend it.
I remember seeing Boss in Motion on shelves when I was barely ready to buy my first fragrances; I never tried it and then it disappeared from stores. Recently I gave it a go and found it very agreeable: a fresh opening with citrus notes and violet leaves, which gradually gives way to a spicy phase where cinnamon and nutmeg stand out, reminding me at times of Yves Saint Laurent’s Jazz. The finish is woody with those spices. It suits the office well because it doesn’t project much but still has presence. It fits autumn or spring better, as the spices give it a character not quite suitable for summer. On my skin, it lasted just about eight hours.
Starts with a citrus touch before settling into a very pleasant spicy aroma; it’s one of my favourites, and I keep it like a treasure.
A very soft and spicy fragrance, with a touch of pepper, cinnamon, nutmeg… it reminds me of Scent but softer. Good longevity for an eau de toilette.
Boss In Motion Original, EDT 90ml, was my first designer perfume; I’ve worn it since its launch in 2002. Its scent doesn’t resemble any other I’ve used or tried. Compliments are frequent. Its fixative on my skin is excellent, as is its longevity. Every time I get the chance, I buy it again. My wife adores it and it reminds her greatly of when we met. For me, it’s a special fragrance. Personal rating 9 out of 10; mind you, 10 would be the perfect perfume.
I loved wearing it at high school; it’s very fresh and pleasant, with the citrus notes blended beautifully.
Soft, light, aromatic, very nice. The only downside I find is that it has very little longevity and a very faint trail. My husband wears it and I can hardly detect it.
A citrus and explosive fragrance if we’re talking about orange. The sweetness can be a bit cloying to the nose, but it’s perfect for warm days and at the beach.
To me, it has been reformulated; it lasts less and smells different.
Excellent fragrance; that nutmeg note is very well executed. It’s a linear scent, no intervals, boss in motion. It’s economical, I recommend it, it fits perfectly in these times, plus it has a very original and long-lasting smell.
I owned this and have now finished it; I took it out 12 years ago. I can assure you that the version back then was better, without a doubt. There’s talk of a reformulation, yes, it could be. I smelled it recently and they’ve toned everything down a bit, but it still resembles the original, just perhaps less intense. A couple of sprays fix it, provided you’re clean. It comes across as spicy and youthful, not really for anyone over 30. In my opinion, my time for wearing it has passed, but it would be a good pick if you’re looking for something fresh and peppery. I’d give it 8/10.
For me, it’s one of the favourites, little known in my circle, original and quite explosive. It doesn’t reach the same level of flashiness as other famous scents; it might seem linear to some, but for those who appreciate citrus, spice and youthfulness, it’s a total yes.
I bought this 5ml bottle five years ago and it smells exactly like my original 100ml bottle from 2009. It’s a beast, rich and versatile with notes of orange and wood. Back then it was truly original, and now it still sells like hot cakes to anyone under 25. I’m going to gift it to one of my girlfriend’s sons, who is 20, because he made a face that said ‘I love this’ without me even telling him. The projection is normal but lasts long enough, around 6 to 8 hours. I’d give it 7/10, but only for younger people.
It’s a perfume that the first time I heard it was about 13 years ago. It blew my mind (I was 15) and since then it’s a scent that fascinates me. It’s not different or innovative, but I simply love it.
I met it in 2005 thanks to a sample from a cousin. Boss In Motion liked me too much because it was citrusy, starring a soft, fresh and juicy orange that overshadowed the other ingredients. Unfortunately, in those years I had a difficult financial situation and couldn’t buy it. Three years later, at Christmas in 2008, my grandparents gave me the longed-for 90ml round bottle and I used it frequently between 2009 and 2010. Unfortunately, by the end of 2010, the greyish round bottle ran out and I started looking for another one. Years passed without finding it in my city; I had to fill that gap with other fragrances. Two days ago, after waiting more than 10 years, I found a new original bottle in the display of the largest store in the shopping centre and without thinking I bought it (those 50 dollars were worth every cent). The best thing is that the scent hasn’t changed much. Between 2005 and 2010, the orange was the star from start to finish (90-95% of the fragrance). In the current version I bought, the orange remains soft, fresh and juicy, but it no longer completely overshadows (70-75% orange, 25-30% rest). When the orange fades, it gives way to bergamot and spices like pink pepper, cinnamon and cardamom, which complement discretely. I barely perceived the sandalwood, nutmeg and vetiver. The current performance is acceptable and decent: on my skin it lasts 6 to 7 hours. The first hour starts with lots of power and notable projection; an hour later the trail becomes moderate and stays discreet and balanced.
Without being the eighth wonder, I had it at 14 for Christmas and loved it. It’s easy to wear, harmless, sweet and versatile. For someone youthful and modern, plus it’s a good gift for those starting out with fragrances aged 14-19. More casual than for events, it even works in the office. It’s sweet but without overwhelming with the nasty things of today. It’s not a beast-mode, but it does well for the price and lasts between 5-6 hours.
It’s a good fresh and citrus fragrance where orange predominates, it feels youthful. It’s also economical if you know where to look, although it doesn’t have much longevity and the trail is moderate. I see it as ideal for hot weather and casual occasions.
A decade ago, I saw Boss as the top of the perfume world, the most sophisticated. I was starting out with a tight budget and didn’t know other houses like Dior or niche brands. Today, for me, this still has great quality and works. It’s elegant, masculine, a spicy and woody orange scent, nothing smells quite the same. Totally recommended, although I don’t see it for young people; it’s for those 30 and above.
Back to the Basics: I still don’t know if it’s the times or nostalgia, but I’ve decided to bring back HUGO BOSS IN MOTION and HUGO BOSS MAN – EXTREME. The opening is an exquisite sweet orange jam in syrup, nothing acidic, creamy and fresh, a serious citrus explosion. The basil and violet give a distinctive herbal touch, while the pepper and cinnamon add warmth. In the heart, nutmeg and cardamom create a sweet-creamy trail, almost edible. At the end, sandalwood gives a soft woody touch and musk a slight bitterness. It’s a pleasant and active essence. The orange-violet combination is delicious, super fresh like the air from a mini-split. The cinnamon and nutmeg give an almond-like touch, like marzipan. The sandalwood, vetiver and woods produce a velvety effect, like the scent of a plush toy that makes you want to hug it. There’s a slight metallic touch, perhaps from the alcohol, which gives it a synthetic air. It’s unisex, sweet, creamy and fresh. Take advantage of its explosive opening trail; it’s rich and enveloping, light and easy to wear. It draws attention. Its performance isn’t maximum, lasting 2 to 3 hours with a subtle but intoxicating trail, ideal for the cinema with your partner and getting compliments. The bottle is a metallic sphere with an orange line, looking like a strange toy; the atomiser is at the bottom and you have to press upwards, but the atomisation is weak and you have to get close. A sweet-sweet youthful citrus scent that evokes childhood, those Saturdays waking up at 7 am for cartoon marathons, eating jelly, yoghurt and cereal with figures. What good times.
My party fragrance when I was younger (20-25 years old). I love it and it brings back very fond memories.
The classic 90ml round bottle is starting to disappear from shops in favour of the standard 100ml version. Reformulation confirmed.
On my nose, it smells good, but it doesn’t offer anything new. It’s not very long-lasting, lacks a great trail, and isn’t a compliment bomb. It smells like creamy orange, like those old lip balms used to prevent chapping, or like an old pharmacy. In my opinion, it’s a bit retro.
Smells good, but don’t expect to be the centre of attention. It was discontinued for a while, the price went up, and it’s been reformulated; now it smells more synthetic. It’s an unusual scent, which gives it originality. It works in any weather and at any time of day, it’s versatile and comfortable given the price. The presentation, the famous ‘ball’, is unique. It’s a soft sweetness without being cloying, it lasts very well and for about 5 hours.
They gave it to me and its scent is simple and pleasant, but nothing extraordinary. It has very little longevity and sillage of half a metre for personal use; you have to get close to perceive it. To be honest, I didn’t like it much.
Very short longevity. The perfume has a good scent, but nothing spectacular; for the price it has, it is not worth it.
I have the spherical bottle version. The new ones have a different design. It is a rich but discreet scent. The opening is a simple orange, but it improves as it dries, especially on skin, becoming a warm orange with dark wood, exquisite. All of this is felt at skin level and in the personal space, ideal for personal enjoyment or with a partner in intimate moments, or for work in a very subtle way. It requires several applications and reapplication during the day.
In its day it was a beast. Today, although it stands out from the rest, it is not entirely convincing when there are hundreds of alternatives. Still, I will buy it to remember that characteristic and heavy scent. It’s rich!
It was my signature in school, at 16-17 years old. That fresh and spicy opening was wonderful to me, as was the bottle shape. Excellent scent and memories.
Very youthful; I loved it in my school days more than any other. It’s rich, very citrusy, with a slight sweet touch but it doesn’t linger in the sillage. It has moderate projection and is, generally, a good fragrance but very youthful.
Lasts nothing, but really nothing. Sillage and projection? Perhaps the first five minutes. Longevity on skin? Maybe two hours at most, in a very subtle way. I remember it better in the 2000s when I wore it at university.
It was my favourite for many years for that particular touch. I stopped wearing it because it became very scarce and I felt the reformulation altered something I liked, preferring not to tarnish the memory. I’m past the era when I used it a lot, but if I can find a batch from the 2000s I would certainly buy it just to smell it again again.
I bought it because of the romance of having worn it 15 years ago and never being able to again. Back then it was in vogue and HB fragrances stood out. I have the current batch, but it has not a metre’s worth of similarity to the original. It leaves me with the memory of those times. Still, I consider it for this spring for its versatility. 7/10
Takes me back to my student days. That fresh, citrusy, orange scent with a spicy and woody touch is unforgettable. It achieves a perfect balance between cleanliness and sensuality, staying youthful and versatile for almost any occasion. Easy to wear, it conveys good energy and lasts around 6-7 hours with moderate projection. Ideal all year round, though it shines more in spring and autumn. It was a hit in its day, vibrant and with that unmistakable Boss signature. I would love to get my hands on it again. Rating: 7.5/10
