Launched in 2002, this composition evokes the freshness of a summer afternoon in Italy, where crystal-clear water meets the natural sweetness of sugar. Starts strong with berries and then moves to vanilla and orange blossom; in the middle it smells of fairy floss, just as I remember. As it dries down, almost only vanilla remains. It lasts a long time and projects for miles; I can smell it hours later without issue. It seems more suited to bold people, although I think it suits young women better. The ingredients are top-notch, but it only has those three notes and no further nuances. It’s curious, but I wouldn’t buy it, especially given the price.

Starts with a strong hit of berries before yielding to vanilla and orange blossom. In the middle, that trio creates a sensation of fairy floss; in fact, when I recall the scent, that’s exactly what comes to mind. The dry-down is almost pure vanilla. The longevity is very good and the projection doesn’t fail; I can still smell it hours later. I see this more for cooler weather and perhaps for evening wear. Although a man could pull it off, I think it’s more focused on women, perhaps teenagers. The quality of the ingredients is noticeable, but there’s nothing more than those three notes, few nuances. It’s a curious scent to try, but I wouldn’t buy it, and certainly not at the price.

  • I absolutely adore Profvmum Roma; I already own Confetto and Battito d’Ali and have been longing for Dulcis in Fundo for ages. I tried Acqua e Zucchero last night and, although it was already being discussed on the English web… I was blown away, it’s 95% Pink Sugar! I put it on each hand. Acqua e Zucchero doesn’t have that slightly unpleasant opening of Pink Sugar which smells of liquorice. But aside from that minute and a half, they are so similar I can’t see why pay the 220 euros for Profvmum Roma when the Aquolina version is easily available for 10 euros. As for longevity, as per their line, more than twelve hours, but Pink Sugar on me lasts ten hours without issues, so not there either… Oh, for those who don’t know Pink Sugar: sugar, sugar and more sugar, a touch of berries and little else. Mind you, I love the scent, but only for wearing at home on those days I need a sweet hit. By the way, my partner, who recognises no more than 5% of my perfumes, said yesterday when I put it on: ‘Oh, how long has it been since you wore Pink Sugar!’ I’m sorry Profvmum, with this one, I’m not emptying my wallet.

  • I love the Profumum Roma house. I own Confetto and Battito d’Ali and have been eyeing Dulcis in Fundo for a few months. Yesterday I wore Acqua e Zucchero in the evening, and although I had heard rumours on the English website… I was left quite stunned, this is 95% Pink Sugar! I tested one in each hand. Acqua e Zucchero doesn’t have that slightly unpleasant opening for my taste that Pink Sugar has, which I associate with licorice. But apart from that minute and a half, they are so similar that nothing justifies paying the €220/100ml price of Profumum Roma when the Aquolina one is easily found for €10/100ml. As for longevity, it’s in line with the house, over twelve hours, but Pink Sugar is a perfume that, at least on me, easily lasts ten hours, so not there either… Oh, regarding the scent, for those who don’t know Pink Sugar: sugar, sugar, and more sugar, a hint of red berries and little else. Note, I love the scent, but only for wearing it at home on those days when I need a sweet boost. By the way, my partner, who recognises no more than 5% of the perfumes in my collection, said yesterday when I wore it: ‘Oh, how long has it been since you wore Pink Sugar!’ I’m sorry Profumum, with this one, I’m not emptying my pockets.

  • This perfume is Pink Sugar without the synthetic and licorice touch that the Aquolina one has. Acqua e Zucchero smells muuuuuuch better, it’s very feminine, and lasts and projects very well. If I had more money, I’d buy it, because I love Pink Sugar but some of its notes never quite convince me, whereas in this Profumvm Roma one, they are perfectly blended and none clashes with the others. I want it, but since it’s so similar to Pink Sugar, I think I’ll never have it, because it’s so expensive and Pink Sugar is only €10.

  • It’s an injustice that such a good perfume costs so much; the world is very unevenly distributed. I’m not going to compare this with Pink Sugar because it would lead to jail; I’ll just say that I like both but in different categories. The elegance and performance of Acqua e Zucchero you won’t find in a 20 euro bottle from Primor, no matter how much we insist. It fixes you like methadone to a junkie, but Profumum Roma is a bit of a nonsense. I’d fill a stack and bathe in it every day. Besides, here at least they don’t call you an idiot when they charge you, as some other luxury fashion houses do, selling you 30ml of Victoria’s Secret mist as if it were gold, and then they’re left with nothing.

  • It seems an absolute injustice when I like a perfume so much and it’s so expensive. The world is so unfairly distributed. I won’t say what I think comparing it to Pink Sugar because I’d go to jail, but I’ll just say Pink Sugar is also lovely, yet they compete in different categories. The subtlety and elegance of Acqua e Zucchero, along with its monumental performance, is something you won’t find in a €20 bottle on a Primark shelf, no matter how hard we try. It might tide you over like methadone for a junkie, but Profumum Roma is a whole other story. I’d fill a bathtub with this magical liquid and bathe in it every day. Besides, at least here they aren’t calling you an idiot in the face when charging you, as happens with other trendy luxury houses that rip you off for 30ml of a Victoria’s Secret mist hyped by four TikTokers as if it were manna from heaven, at a golden price, and then act so smug.

  • The same thing happened to me… it’s a scent I absolutely love. It projects a lot; in fact, a lady walking past told me I smelled very much of sugar, and I had only put one drop on my hand, something that never happens where a stranger comments on my perfume. When I got home, I was already thinking which one of mine it resembled, and indeed, I have one by Al-Rehab called Soft (the only Arabic one I own), and I lost the urge to buy it because they are identical. I had one in each hand and they were practically the same, so I didn’t buy it; it hurt my heart to spend €250 when I had one that cost €9 and was so similar… though I’d like to try niche perfumes again later.

I hesitated to leave my review because it has worked so well for almost everyone; I even wondered if the travel size I bought was the original. After reading the positive comments, I became suspicious, but then I found a review I agreed with, which reassured me: I wasn’t scammed, this perfume simply isn’t for me. It just smells of plastic, something synthetic, and conveys nothing. I tested it at different times of day, hoping my opinion might change, but after two weeks, nothing has. I’ll keep a little for another season to see if it mellow out, but for now, I’m just glad I bought the travel size and not the full bottle. It feels like the perfume chooses you.

  • Missfragancias

I hesitated to review it because most have had a good experience, even doubting if the travel size was the original. After reading praising comments I wondered if it was the same, but I saw a review I agreed with and felt reassured: I wasn’t cheated, just that this fragrance isn’t for me. It only smells of plastic, something synthetic, conveying nothing. I’ve used it at different times and hours, thinking my perception would change, but after two weeks nothing has changed. I’m going to keep some for another season to see if it matures, but for now I’m just glad I bought the travel size and not the full bottle. I have the feeling it’s the perfume that chooses you.
