It’s a gem… One of the most exquisite fragrances I’ve tried. My only complaint is its performance; I’d like a bit more longevity and trail. It’s a sweet, spiced aroma, a super rich anise, natural and not tiring. I don’t think I could buy anything else after smelling this. It’s a very rich fragrance, suitable for fresh, cold or outdoor climates, and also for fresh days or ambient settings. 100% recommended.
I haven’t written in a while, but I think this occasion deserves it. The other day, when buying Christmas gifts, I was given samples of Black Amber. I wore it two days ago and I still remember… horrible. I’m about to ask for a refund from the chain that gave it to me. For me, it’s nonsense: totally synthetic, one of those scents that irritate and give headaches. Moreover, it wouldn’t go away. If I had to say what it smells like, I wouldn’t know; certainly not anise. It smells like generic cleaning product. Horrible, truly, I can’t stand it. It always happens to me with Adolfo Domínguez.
Surprised! I had never used a perfume from this designer. The presentation and colour caught my attention. I tried it, liked the scent, bought it and have no regrets. It’s 100% sweet anise and lasts all day. I recommend it for cold, fresh days and for the evening. For the price and longevity, it’s fair; 100% recommended.
It’s a pleasing perfume. It’s nice to have the aroma on the skin for the most part of the five hours it lasts. Nothing novel about the scent, but I’m happy with this AD proposal.
My first AD perfume. The first time I tried it, I loved it, but after a few hours I noticed it was a bit overwhelming. I eventually got used to it; it was just the beginning. The trail lasts about an hour and the perfume between five and six hours on my skin. Totally recommended for fresh days and for its accessible price. I’m not a fan of anise, but here it feels well balanced with amber.
Adolfo Domínguez returns with another good perfume. Yes, it has a tremendous similarity to SWY, but it’s slightly more wearable and at half the price. It’s a very trendy scent, playing in the same league as Scandal, Wanted By Night, Most Wanted Parfum, OM Royal and SWY. Recommended for everyday wear in autumn, winter and spring, day or night depending on the sprays. Excellent!
Generally, I like Adolfo Domínguez perfumes because they don’t try to be surprising but don’t clash either, and they fit the price. Some might say they lack longevity and projection, and they may be right, but they’re still good buys. The name caught my eye and I loved the bottle; knowing the house, I wasn’t disappointed. It doesn’t have a great development; from the start, you can taste the sweet, spiced anise. It’s serious but not excessively formal. I see it as ideal for evening events in cool weather or for days when wearing a jacket and coat. The projection is moderate and the longevity is good. It’s not meant to compete with egos, nor is that its intention. Personally, it suits me and I don’t rule out buying it soon. I recommend trying it; I doubt many will regret it.
At first, the opening seemed a bit chemical, but once it dries down on the skin, it delivers exactly what is expected: it’s like ‘Stronger With You’, softer, with star anise taking centre stage. Over time, cinnamon and amber come to the fore. The trail is powerful at first, but after an hour it’s clinging to the skin. If you’re looking for something for fresh or cold days that isn’t heavy or intrusive, this is a great option. For those used to very sweet scents like 9PM or JPG, or beginners, it might seem more serious or ‘old-fashioned’ than other perfumes, so do try it before buying.
The scent is very rich and I always receive compliments. The trail is incredible and lasts over eight hours; it’s still noticeable on the skin. For the price, I think it’s excellent and I feel it’s a clone of Stronger With You Absolutely. From my experience, it works like the Armani but is less intense, so I wouldn’t use it at night, but rather for a date with my girlfriend without creating the tension that the Absolutely gives. 8/10.
Adolfo Domínguez fragrances tend to be simple and reliable, but this one is no exception. Not only does it deliver, it goes far beyond expectations. Although it bears a striking resemblance to SWY, so what? You get 120ml of almost identical quality. It’s like comparing the citrus of Dior Homme Cologne with the cedar of this one. I’ll continue to use it to test the performance, but the opening is enough for me to be satisfied.
The Adolfo Domínguez house, especially due to its quality-price ratio, makes quite good fragrances and this Black Amber is one of them. To me, it smells like a mix of the Armani SWY (careful, it’s not an identical clone as some have said with too much lightness), with phases of the chic sticky sweetness of the legendary Invictus by Paco Rabanne and in the base the synthetic fixative of the Dior Sauvage EDT that made it last hours. It has an anise base note (careful, totally synthetic, don’t expect miracles for £30). If the note doesn’t suit you, run away as it’s tedious. Super-ambered and candied sweetness very much in fashion, with style. In the case of the Black Amber by AD, it smells like ambered and cinnamon anise, very sweet and somewhat cloying (especially in summer, beware of the trigger). It has weak to moderate performance, max 4-5 hours. I expected more compared to the others it tries to resemble, but that’s what there is for the price. Of majority intention, popular, especially in Spain, with a more than adjusted price. From £30 to £50 in bottles up to 200 ml. For a gift to a relative or friend without leaving you shivering with the card, or as an economic alternative to current designer perfumery totems, I find this Black Amber brilliant.
When it dries or a little before, it seems to me similar to Diavolo by Antonio Banderas, or my nose is lost.
I don’t understand why they say it’s a dupe of the SWY EDT; there’s nothing alike. The latter lacks the perfectly crafted anise essence of the AD, which is totally natural. I wouldn’t use the SWY EDT for daily wear. The Black Amber by AD seems much better for daily use, as a signature scent. It has moderate to long longevity, certainly close to the skin, which I love so as not to bother anyone. After searching for several options for my signature scent with a modern smell and more masculine than just sweet, I think this is the one. Nothing like the repetitive reviews from influencers on TikTok, simplistic ones that just repeat what someone else said.
Good perfume. It’s not as sweet as the SWY and doesn’t resemble it much in reality, but I understand that for some noses it has the ‘vibe’ many times. When comparing perfumes, I prefer to say it has a ‘vibe’ rather than being an ‘equal’. It’s a more wearable aroma for daily life as it’s not so sweet. Totally recommended, but try to get it at a good price outside of retail (no more than £15). At that price, they usually sell the Adolfo Domínguez sets.
My reviews are short and direct: I love its scent, especially the opening of anise. It smells great on my skin, is soft and not invasive; I feel it deeply and enjoy it. Short but acceptable longevity, excellent quality-price ratio. Ideal for autumn, winter or spring nights.
Truly delicious with good longevity, although it’s not very projecting.
A very pleasant fragrance; you can clearly detect the anise with a sweet touch from the amber. It projects for an hour and a half, is intense but not invasive; then it settles and stays with me for another 3-4 hours in my little bubble. I’d wear it in autumn and winter; given the quality-price ratio, it could be daily wear. I’m not a fan of anise, but this is wearable, and Adolfo Domínguez fragrances tend to be easy to wear and natural.
Beyond the price, it smells delicious with a predominance of sweet spices. It’s a very good option for fresh nights, especially during these festive days. It doesn’t announce its arrival, but once you discover it, you’ll surely receive compliments.
I think it’s a very good perfume; I received it as a Christmas present and it smells similar to the SWY EDT when dry, so that’s a huge plus for buying it. It’s sweet, so its best moments are at night and in the cold, but if you want to wear it in the heat, it’s up to you. Without a doubt, a pleasant, soft, wearable and very long-lasting scent.
If you want to feel star anise and amber, give it a try: it’s sweet, perfect for freezing days and that cosy Christmas vibe. It doesn’t quite convince me, but that touch of amber gives it a mysterious, sexy air, almost masculine in that slight sweetness, ultimately unisex-masculine.
In my opinion, it’s one of the best in the Adolfo Domínguez collection. Incredible how just three ingredients create such an attractive scent. What a delight: that sweet anise and spicy cinnamon are a constant pleasure every time I apply it. The quality of the perfume and the atomiser is superior to many at a higher price. Most will like it and it’s not difficult to use: for night outs, afternoons, events, or dates, it’s attractive. Its habitat is cool months and spring nights, but not for summer. It’s cosy, projects quite a bit, and lasts 7 to 10 hours.
This smells of pure anise. Although I like anise, there’s too much of it. The only moderately pleasant part is the scent right on the skin, as the anise isn’t quite so intense there. If this resembles SWY, the hype it’s getting isn’t worth it.
Adolfo has come up with a blatant yet charming brother. It reminds me of a slightly simple friend who, if you’re not careful, will steal your girlfriend. It’s a warm, manual-style spice: an amber base with cinnamon and star anise. Naturally, it won’t please those who hate these spices. Otherwise, it’s very usable for late afternoons and cool nights. Performance is decent, among the best from the brand in that regard. It’s a real hit, provided you don’t dislike anise. For the price, it’s excellent.
At first, it doesn’t say anything new… but as it dries down, it resembles SWY a lot. Be aware, it resembles it, but SWY has better quality notes.
A blatant copy of SWY, spectacular in both scent and quality. It lasted a long time on my wrist; one would have to buy it to judge its performance properly.
It’s the spring/summer edition of SWY. If it had more power, it would be a top-tier perfume.
My favourite from Adolfo Domínguez so far. It’s one of those with names that have nothing to do with the scent, yet this exceeds expectations. To the point: it’s heavily aniseed with a touch of cinnamon. It doesn’t bother, smells great, and is different. Although it’s not heavy, it darkens as it dries, boosting the anise and cinnamon. Armani’s SWY EDT is similar, from the same genre, but they aren’t the same; this has its own personality.
It’s the Azzaro Wanted By Night budget version. Mind you, I disagree with the SWY comparison.
I wore it all day. It’s affordable, sweet, and nocturnal… but now it has an olfactory note that doesn’t quite satisfy me. I’ve tried the Azzaro and the SWY, and while this perfume is very similar, it has something I don’t like, something synthetic, I don’t know. I’d prefer the Azzaro or the SWY a thousand times over as they don’t have that sensation. It’s certainly not a bad scent, though.
Delighted with this lotion. I love the SWY EDT, and this one is very similar, plus it’s affordable (30 dollars in Mexico). It suits the current cold weather perfectly.
Curious. It has that sweet nougat and cinnamon profile of the TMW EDP or SWY Intensely, but with a less spicy black amber. It leans closer to the TMW EDP, though it lacks that sharp pinch of cardamom that gives it character; without it, it’s less invasive and more subtle. I’d recommend it if you can’t stretch to the originals.
I was gifted this and wouldn’t have chosen it myself. It’s sweet and spicy, with very noticeable cinnamon and star anise, yet they aren’t the main event as they are in oriental spices. It has nothing to do with the current Wanted By Night: the Azzaro one is a sweet fruity salad, like bubblegum, and rather childish. This has intimate projection, is versatile for all ages, and while sweet, has spicy nuances. I’m not usually into this type of perfume, but the quality of the ingredients and the blend is good, typical of A.D. in its price range. It’s not bad at all, though I doubt I’d use it, except in cooler climates.
Very rich indeed. Obviously, it shares a known DNA, similar to Amw and the like. I’d include Asad Bourbon as having about a 60% resemblance.
This fragrance has won my affection. I was gifted it a year ago and didn’t pay much attention at first, but every time I wore it, my family said it smelled wonderful, and even the girl I liked commented on it. It has a warm, sweet aroma with that special touch of cinnamon. I would definitely buy it again.
But what a rich scent! It’s not cloyingly sweet or intrusive; it’s perfectly balanced. It’s like a nut cake with a hint of fresh anise, just as you take it out of the oven.
It smells great at first, it’s a cracker and I’d recommend it, especially if you catch it on offer. However, on a day at university I noticed that after two hours it was barely detectable, which I didn’t expect. In the end, they told me it doesn’t project much, so be aware of that.
A pleasant fragrance for daily use, not really for evening. It’s my first fragrance from Adolfo Domínguez. It might have similarities to Armani’s SWY in its spiciness and overwhelming nature if you apply many sprays, but it lacks that sweet touch; it takes a different path. I bought it because it didn’t seem as blue as the bottle’s colour, but it has a salty base that I like, combined with anise and cinnamon among the green notes. Personally, I’d make it sweeter, but it’s still recommended.
To sum it up so you don’t get lost: Adolfo Domínguez’s Black Amber with SWY is like Halloween Man with One Million.
I tried it and the truth is, for what it offers, it’s a little pricey, but it’s a good perfume. I’d recommend it for colder climates; it goes perfectly for both day and night. It smells of incense and I’ve received many compliments, haha.
The top notes are lovely; it lasts 4.5 hours on the skin and projects for about an hour, but on clothes it lingers for 12 hours with constant sillage. It smells good, reminiscent of 9PM’s dry-down but less synthetic; the dry-down highlights the spice and anise, bringing to mind Your Touch Intense but with better quality. A good product for everyday wear if the temperature is under 20 degrees.
