Sol de Janeiro Bruma 39: too many expectations for so little 🥥 I was dying to try it! When I heard it was relaunching, I went crazy. I ran to my perfumerie and bought it without thinking. But honestly, a great disappointment. Based on the notes, I expected to love it, but for me, it’s just okay. I love Sol de Janeiro, truly, but I think this is one of their weakest brumes. On my skin, it smells like coconut yoghurt and nothing else. I don’t detect the praline, nor creamy nuances, nor depth. If I get very close and smell the dry down, I perceive a curious popcorn aroma. It smells good, yes, but very simple. Perhaps the hype and the fact that it was discontinued raised my expectations. RATING: 6/10.
I expected more vanilla and something more laconic, with a hint of chocolate from the praline. It reminds me of slightly bitter hazelnut liqueur mixed with an intense, sweet coconut, nothing tropical. The roasted nut stands out, perhaps due to the hazelnut or almond in the praline. It doesn’t resemble any of Sol de Janeiro’s scents. No trace of popcorn, maybe because they removed that note in this launch. They say it smells like the 71, but it doesn’t; the 71 smells like a biscuit, whereas this has more depth and I like it better. It’s a good scent, but nothing new. Not super summery, but perfect for winter.
I tried this an hour ago and it’s absolutely lovely. Too bad I couldn’t test the original Coco Cabana, as they say it has changed slightly. What I notice most, both in the opening and base, is the praline. I expected it to be more coconutty and beachy, but it smells sweeter and less tropical. It’s not the 71, but it has the same vibes. For those who love the 62 and 71, you will adore this for its sweetness. If you’re looking for something more beachy, tropical, floral, and with a real coconut presence, Rio Radiance remains the best. I understand the hype; it’s very good and will be one of my favourite SDJ scents from now on.
