I absolutely love and adore Montale; these are my three favourite signature scents. However, there is something about this particular piece that doesn’t quite sit right with me. Its olfactive family has nothing to do with what I expected. It sounds like a strident, commercial opening, typical of mass-market fragrances, such as Dior Sauvage or Boss Bottled. I’m sorry, but I don’t understand it at all, and it certainly doesn’t appeal to me. I recommend not buying blindly as I did, because it lacks even a hint of the brand’s DNA.
Truth be told, I bought this blindly based on the notes. I was expecting something more masculine with a potent incense mixed with intense elements, but what really grabs me is the rose—it’s nothing like Montale’s, more of a green tobacco and an oud that gives it a refined touch. Although it wasn’t quite what I was looking for, I absolutely love the scent; it smells fantastic and I get many compliments. You can buy it blindly without fear, but if you’re after something powerful, think twice.
