It starts with a strong alcohol note, but settles within two minutes to reveal the perfume. It’s a ‘3-in-1’ fragrance: imagine a 10ml decant containing 5ml of M7 Collection, 2ml of Opium, and 3ml of Laudano Nero or Ajmal Santal Wood; that’s what this smells like. The sandalwood is secondary; what dominates is the oud with a rough sandalwood base and a hint of anise from the current Opium. By the way, this teaches you that sandalwoods aren’t all the same: I know two types, the CREAMY, SWEET, and slightly WET (like Le Labo Santal 33 or Commodity Book) and the DRY, ROUGH, and slightly BITTER (like this Dunhill, Laudano Nero, or Ajmal Santal Wood). On my skin, it started with a medium-high trail for a few hours, dominated by the M7 scent with a Laudano Nero base and a touch of Opium. Then it dropped to a medium-low trail for another four hours, where the mentioned aromas were balanced, though I sometimes noticed more Opium and other times more M7. Finally, it lasted four more hours close to the skin, with M7 in the background and the rough sandalwood reminiscent of Laudano Nero or Ajmal coming forward. With 10 hours of longevity and a medium trail, it’s suitable for formal occasions and cool or fresh climates; in heat or temperate weather, it can become tiring or irritating quickly. That’s why I wouldn’t wear it more than a couple of times a week to avoid saturation. Although it’s from the Signature Collection, I view it at the same level as Desire, Icon, or any other from the house. I think its price, being over $100, should be around $70, though this is relative: some will love it and pay over $100.
It’s a dry, elegant, and classic sandalwood. Dunhill has hit the mark again. It’s an unobtrusive fragrance that is hard to dislike, but it requires elegance to truly shine. I believe it will appeal more to mature tastes.

I’ve been wearing it for a week and it’s a cracker. I apply it at 8 am (5 sprays) and it’s still detectable at 11 pm, sitting very close to the skin. It starts off citrusy but that fades within a minute, leaving the sandalwood to last all day. The trail is peculiar: sometimes I lose track of wearing it until people stop me to ask what I’m smelling, giving it that come-and-go effect. I’ve received compliments. I see it as a mid-season scent, neither for cold nor heat; in summer it can feel heavy unless worn on cool evenings, while in the dead of winter it lacks the punch. It’s more of a daytime fragrance, though it depends. The aroma is serious, dry, and classy, but it needs a bit more ‘beast mode’ for people to truly enjoy it. The bottle is robust and the box is lovely, just be careful as the cap isn’t magnetic. Despite everything, I don’t see it costing more than £40; something is missing to justify that price, especially when 100ml of Bentley used to go for under £30. It’s good quality, not niche, but doesn’t deserve the current price tag. I bought it on a whim and have no regrets because the scent is worth it and I really like it. I also own Egyptian Smoke and I think my opinion on the Dunhill line won’t change much.
I’ve been testing it daily for a week and confirm: it’s a cracker. I apply it at 8 am with 5 sprays and it’s still detectable at 11 pm, sitting very close to the skin. It’s not strident at the start, more citrusy, but the citrus fades in a minute and the sandalwood arrives to stay all day. Regarding the trail, sometimes I lose track of wearing it; I’m not sure if it’s olfactory fatigue or an effect of the fragrance; people have stopped me to ask what I was wearing when I couldn’t even smell it myself, so it has that come-and-go effect, and yes, I’ve received compliments. I see it as a mid-season scent, neither for cold nor heat; in summer it can feel heavy unless worn on cool evenings, and it’s not for the dead of winter because it lacks the strength for the cold. It’s more of a daytime fragrance, though it depends on how you wear it. The aroma is a delight, serious, dry, and classy, although it lacks a bit more ‘beast mode’, as those who have smelled it have enjoyed it. The bottle is robust and well-made, the box is lovely, but be careful as the cap is press-fit rather than magnetic. Despite everything, I don’t see it costing more than £40; something is missing to justify that price, especially compared to 100ml of Bentley which used to cost less than £30. It fits that line of good quality, it’s not niche, but it doesn’t deserve what they charge now. I bought it on a whim and have no regrets because the scent is what matters and I really like it. I also own Egyptian Smoke, but I must test it more these weeks; I guess my opinion on the tested Dunhill line won’t change much.
