  The opening of Jasmin Noir is an intense floral, with a penetrating, sharp white musk that gives it a drastic edge; it’s not dark at all, but entirely floral. I’m tired of so many brands using ‘Noir’ without any dark scent. The floral power comes from lotus, gardenia, and a sweet, strong jasmine. Over the lotus—which is nearly impossible to find naturally due to its cost—synthetic notes are blended with benzoin, styrax, and patchouli to create an aquatic and fruity aroma. The key molecules are cis-jasmone and dimethoxybenzene, but I feel the gardenia stands out the most. Its narcotic fragrance permeates everything, even overpowering the white musk at times, leaving only gardenia. Together, jasmine and gardenia fit perfectly due to their similarity, so perhaps my perception of the gardenia is amplified by the jasmine. They say it lacks projection and longevity, but with the sample I received from Spartacus, I’m nearly overwhelmed. Its floral potency is total, overwhelming, and dizzying, and this is an Eau de Toilette. The trail from my arm is very noticeable and I’ve worn it for almost an hour. The accord is fairly one-note, neither good nor bad. I don’t detect the base notes like almond or tonka bean; everything settles into a sustained floral cauldron that leaves my olfactory senses stunned. It’s not original as it smells like many florals, but it’s not bad either. It’s a very feminine perfume, extraordinarily feminine, understood through that overwhelming floral power. A genuine gift for those who love strongly floral fragrances.
