It’s now available at the department store. Tested on a blotter. The note that stands out most and lasts is the licorice, an aroma similar to black gumdrops. I haven’t worn it, so I won’t speak of performance. Best regards.
Hyper-realistic licorice bomb, going on my wishlist.
I bought a few Penhaligon’s items and the assistant kindly prepared a decant of this fragrance for me as I was intrigued. Initially, testing it on blotter felt like nothing more than a licorice bomb, but I decided to give it a second chance on skin. I am absolutely delighted I did. I can state with certainty that reducing this perfume to merely ‘licorice’ is unfair and inaccurate. That potent opening licorice note does not translate to my skin; instead, it settles into a highly spiced wood reminiscent of an old wooden drawer where spices and tea were stored. This vintage touch is accompanied throughout by fennel and licorice, preventing it from veering into a ‘damp cellar’ or musty scent. I can easily imagine it as the fragrance of a vampire residing in a palace akin to Quinta da Regaleira in Lisbon—a grand library filled with wooden shelves and yellowed books. I would love for the green tea note to be longer-lasting and more pronounced. Please note that this ‘vintage’ aspect may not suit everyone. While I am not one to limit fragrances by age, in this particular case, I do advise caution. It is neither a beast nor a sillage monster; after three hours, I can only detect it very close to the skin. I believe being moderate is in tune with the fragrance’s spirit. Undoubtedly, it feels aristocratic, very much in line with the house’s style. Different, magnetic, mysterious. This perfume on the right person will cause broken hearts.
Magnificent fragrance. Initially, I was a little hesitant to try it due to its licorice aroma, but as the hours pass, it transforms into a wonderful scent. Beyond that, the bottle design, the perfume’s colour, and the box are truly exquisite. It is one of those perfumes you enjoy throughout the working day without being intrusive, yet constantly reminding you of its presence. I will certainly purchase it!! New Review: Acquired!!! It is an incredible perfume. It is said, rumoured, and discussed that it will be discontinued soon. I do not believe this, as it is truly a beauty of a perfume!! Its longevity on skin perfectly exceeds 12 hours, and the incense note it emits is truly sublime!! This perfume could be launched in an Amouage bottle, and everyone would agree it is a masterpiece worthy of the Omani house’s classics. I have acquired several of Penhaligon’s recent launches after a lapse of several years and must say that they have all had better sillage and longevity than we were accustomed to, thanks to Penhaligon’s!!
Magnificent fragrance. At first, I hesitated due to the licorice smell, but as the hours pass, it becomes a proper perfume. Also, the bottle, the colour, and the box are gorgeous. It’s one of those perfumes you enjoy all day without being intrusive, but that constantly reminds you it’s there. I’ll definitely buy it. There are rumours it’s going to be discontinued, but I don’t believe it; it’s a beauty. Its longevity exceeds 12 hours and the incense note is sublime. It could be launched in an Amouage bottle; it’s a masterpiece worthy of the Omani brand’s classics. I’ve bought several recent Penhaligon’s releases, and they’ve all had better trail and longevity than before.
I bought several items from Penhaligon’s and the girl made a decant of this fragrance for me because it caught my eye. In the blotter, it seemed like a licorice bomb, but I decided to give it a second chance on skin and I’m very glad. Reducing it to ‘smelling of licorice’ is unfair. That powerful opening doesn’t reflect on my skin; it settles as a very spiced wood, like an old spice and tea cabinet. That antique touch is always accompanied by fennel and licorice, preventing it from falling into a closed-in or humid smell. I can easily imagine it as the fragrance of a vampire in an old Lisbon palace, a great library with yellowed books. I wish the green tea lasted longer. This ‘antique’ touch may not please everyone; although I’m not in favour of limiting fragrances by age, here I advise caution. It’s not a beast of projection or trail; after three hours, I only feel it close to the skin. I think being moderate is in tune with its spirit. Without a doubt, it seems aristocratic, very much in the house’s line. Different, magnetic, mysterious. On the right person, it will cause broken hearts.
I don’t usually like ambered fragrances, and this is deeply so. The licorice note eclipses all the others. It’s not unpleasant, but for me, nothing makes it stand out. If there’s a positive, it’s that at least it doesn’t smell like Lolita Lempicka.
I am not usually a fan of ambered fragrances, and this is truly one. The licorice note drowns out the rest. It is not unpleasant, but for me, it has nothing that makes it stand out. If I must say something positive, it is that at least it does not smell like Lolita Lempicka.
Ambered and spiced, very distinct. At first, it smells of licorice and benzoin, with that touch of green tea that makes it more wearable for the day; then the vanilla emerges, very spiced. Undoubtedly, it transports you to all the delights of the East.
Ambered, spiced, and very different. At first, it smells of licorice and benzoin, with that touch of green tea that makes it more wearable for the day, then the vanilla emerges, very spiced. Without a doubt, it takes you back to all the delights of the East.
Vegetable broth cube with licorice.
It smells like a vegetable broth cube with licorice.
I love it on my boyfriend’s skin; it’s a licorice scent that keeps a bergamot tea very fresh and unique (it has a difficult skin where perfumes don’t always stick, highlighting green and acidic notes). However, on me, it smells like a hyper-realistic licorice sweet, slightly powdery. A bit much.
It’s exquisite. It lasts about 3 or 4 hours on the skin.
The first thing I noticed was a dense scent, a blend of honey, smoke, and spices. Looking at the notes, I believe it’s licorice, something I’ve never tried before. It’s very feminine, but I don’t see it as easy to wear. From the Afternoon Routes collection, it’s one of the least favourites, alongside Empressa.
