Choosing a signature scent is tricky when you have so many, especially if you don’t want to repeat the same one for more than two days in a row due to variety. Although perfumes aren’t as expensive as a watch or a car these days, having a wide selection is my biggest advantage. In my youth, my signature was a Massimo Dutti simply because I couldn’t afford anything else, but now that I have more resources, that option has disappeared. How do you pick one that stands out against the rest? A gourmand exhausts me, an aquatic scent bores me, and a citrus is too sharp in cold weather… In the end, the signature is what I use most, and that is me with Musc Panache. It surprises me: I wear it all year round, it brings freshness in summer and holds up well in the cold. It’s simple yet nuanced. Maurice Roucel explains it better in his YouTube video, but it’s a morning masculine with musk, bitter orange, iris, and vetiver – clean and fresh. There are similar scents like Prada’s Infusion d’Iris, but this one has more weight; on my skin, the Prada leaves just a trace on clothes. My only complaint is the reformulation: the opening no longer has that fruity orange note it had at the start; now the iris dominates. A pity, but it remains my favourite despite small brands suffering more from such changes.

  • I saw the ad for Santal Nirvana and the iris note really caught my attention, so I decided to give this brand a try. I agree with Imanol: having a signature scent as a collector is a whole different challenge. As for me, hehe, I find it hard to define my definitive top 10; what a crazy hobby!
