I arrived with high hopes, looking for something similar to Marc Jacobs’ ‘Rain’ (which is no longer available). Expectations were high and the disappointment was immense. Upon application, I couldn’t smell anything, too subtle; on my skin it’s barely noticeable and after four hours it smells a bit more. A great disappointment: it conveys nothing new nor the summer notes, sea breeze or salt that it promised. Where are they? I’ll keep looking.
It smells good, but don’t get too excited. I detect salt and a marine touch, could it be the seaweed? The only downside is that it doesn’t last at all. I bought 100 ml for €106 and the longevity is terribly poor. I went back to Jo Malone the next day and they admitted it doesn’t last long; Wood Sage fans usually wear the body cream (which costs another €63). In short: it doesn’t smell bad, but I wouldn’t spend €106 on something that lasts half an hour, nor would I buy the cream. Better to invest in something better.
Delicious, fresh and delicate. It evokes a sea breeze, opening a window and seeing the sea. It doesn’t leave much of a trail, but it’s perfect for summer heat. Definitely a perfume for everyday wear.
It’s a delight, unique and fresh. Perfect for feeling clean in the office or by the beach, all year round. Very versatile and unobtrusive; everyone loves it. The salty note is surprising: it smells of salt, but incredibly well. The seaweed adds freshness, the floral notes soften it, and the citrus makes it sharp. It’s a work of art, although the skin performance is moderate; it lasts longer on clothes and doesn’t stain. It has low projection, only about a metre at first, then it becomes intimate. I enjoy it so much I smell it on the shelf several times a week. So simple I’d buy it blind without a doubt. Look after the beast, it’s got us all in a bit of a mood! Cheer up, troops.
This fragrance smells of summer in the Hamptons (at least that is the image it evokes in me). It distils class and tidiness. It is for personal enjoyment, although I imagine it would perform better when combined with other products from the range.
The opening is delightful, super fresh and addictive, but by the middle it stops hooking me; it smells of salt and something creamy, which together remind me of salted caramel popcorn, a scent I don’t want on my skin. Towards the end it sounds nice again. It’s strange, I feel a love-hate relationship with it. On my skin it had good longevity and projection.
I liked it very much; it does not last too long, but I like it, and it is ideal for layering to combine with other fragrances.
The initial phase is delicious, super fresh, and addictive. But in the middle stage, I did not like it; it smells too much of salt and something creamy, which combined give me the impression of caramel popcorn with salt, a scent I do not want on my skin. However, in the final phase it smells rich again. It is strange; I feel an love-hate relationship. I felt it had good longevity and projection on my skin.
Wood Sage & Sea Salt is a light, transparent, ethereal, almost conceptual fragrance. It is very difficult to describe. It is linear and very soft from the start. It does not project; it is for personal enjoyment, yet it lasts many hours on skin and especially on fabric. I wore it today layered with Blackberry & Bay and can still detect it after nine hours. It is perfectly unisex and excellent for combining with other Jo Malone colognes, giving them a sweet and neat touch. I do not detect saltiness in it as I do in Olympea, J’adore in Joy, or Womanity, because in those perfumes the salt note sometimes smells like sweat, whereas WS&SS is supremely clean and fresh. It evokes a luxury hotel by the sea… expensive, modern, and impeccable.

It smells of cliffs, of the sea, of sage, of untamed nature, slightly melancholic. It is unisex, but on my skin it tends towards the masculine; if anyone knows something similar but more feminine, please let me know. Longevity and sillage are low, what a pity.
My experience is totally different from what is posted here. I do not detect salt, citrus, or sage, but something very clean which I believe is ambrette. It smells like the facial cream my mother used in the 90s, which is disappointing. I had high hopes and was left with that ‘meh’. Perhaps I should try it in warm weather. Despite smelling like nothing, its potency is strong for an Eau de Cologne. I see it as unisex, for daytime in hot months, as if you have just come out of the shower. Pleasant: 5/10 Interesting: 3/10 Versatile: 7/10 Original: 7/10
I don’t understand why some people dislike it; it is the simplest and cleanest scent in the world. It suits anyone: men, women, non-binary individuals, children, teenagers, you, tell me who and I say yes. I won’t discuss notes, but rather the sensation: fresh, light, as if you have just had a shower and stepped out for a walk on the beach on a crisp day. It is my favourite for calming tempers; it is not a beast, yet several people ask me what I am wearing because it is private and nothing scandalous. The only perfume for which I own two bottles at the same time *facepalm* (-‸ლ)
@DíasBuenos, if you are looking for something with those notes but more feminine, try Nettare di Sole by Guerlain. It is delicious, sharing the same concept of salt, sun, and freshness, but warmer due to the honey. It has moderate sillage and average longevity; I suppose adding more musk would make it harsher without losing its essence. To me, it is beautiful and addictive. Best wishes!
I’ve smelled it several times at the stand and tested it on my skin. I don’t know if it reminds others of Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue, but to me, it does; they are in the same family, though not identical. This Jo Malone version is softer and has a fruity touch, like peach 🍑. I detect no salt or sea algae…
I tried it yesterday at Palacio de Hierro and it was an absolute disaster. A super light, almost imperceptible clean scent; I left half an hour later with my nose pressed to my arm and could barely detect it. For over $150 (100ml), it is a genuine fraud.
I tried it yesterday at Palacio de Hierro and it was a total disappointment. A clean scent, very light and nothing more. After leaving the shop, half an hour later, it was barely perceptible with my nose right up against my arm. For just over $150 (100 ml) it’s a genuine fraud.
I think it’s a masterpiece. I’m crazy about marine scents; I prefer this half-wild, sweet beach to the crowded ones with suntan lotion. It’s more of an autumn beach. The salt and seaweed are subtle, with a warm and elegant touch. The sage is sweet and fresh, and the grapefruit smells like fragrant skin. I use a vial and I love it. However, the longevity is short, although it lingers a bit for a few hours. Finally, the price seems excessive, as always with Jo Malone.
This fragrance is a genius. I adore these marine scents; I prefer this half-wild and sweet beach a thousand times over those crowded ones full of people with sunscreen. It is more of an autumn beach. The salt and seaweed are perfectly subtle and the fragrance has a warm and elegant touch. The sage is sweet and fresh. The grapefruit is smelling your fragrant skin. I have a vial and I am using it these days and the truth is I love it. However, the longevity seems short to me, although it is felt a little for a few hours. Finally, the price seems exaggerated, as it always has seemed to me with Jo Malone perfumes.
This is the cologne I use most. Literally, I spray it carelessly and compulsively every morning since I got it. I love how it smells and the trail of salt it leaves on my body; I have to bury my nose in my skin to perceive its remnants. For me, it is a cologne, like a Nenuco teddy bear for 160 euros that smells fantastic. I went to Jo Malone in San Sebastián looking for something else and tried the Wood Sage; according to the notes, it reminded me of Light Blue due to the salt, but the memory faded leaving a very special salty smell on my wrist. I didn’t buy it immediately; I spent the whole time searching for its trail, captivated. It already seemed to project little, but I returned convinced that with the bottle it would smell more. Yes, my foolishness. Anyway, I bought the bottle and, of course, it neither projects nor lasts. I think that is exactly what one should expect from a perfume whose main note is salt: what is salt going to project? Nothing. It is a lovely, intimate and special scent, but for the 160 euros it cost me, I wanted more; I wanted my friends to notice I had changed perfume. That is why, without admitting defeat, I returned to Jo Malone ready to fix it. They say their fragrances are made to be mixed and personalised, as if they give you permission to put them in pairs. And that is what I did. But I started testing without criteria, looking for something to boost this ‘base’. Drunk on novelty for my nose, I decided on the Lime and Basil; I liked it a lot, it felt familiar, and on the receipt it stated it combined perfectly with the Wood Sage and Sea Salt. After 48 hours and 300 euros, I realised why I liked the Lime Basil: it is super similar to DKNY, a perfume I have used a lot for years. I set the Lime Basil aside until my DKNY ran out and learned the lesson: don’t obsess. I use it willingly after a shower and every time I remember, I almost always layer it with DKNY or Barenia; there is no risk. Do I like the Wood Sage? Yes, I love it, as I have written: I spray it carelessly, I love smelling it. Does it last? Nothing. Can I afford this extravagance? Here is the crux: for this use, certainly not. EDIT: I have been a bit unfair; it is a cologne and performs like a cologne. It is put in the bottle very clearly. The problem was mine that I insisted it was something else.
It was the last sample I had left of all the Jo Malone ones they gave me. My boyfriend found it pleasant and gave it a 7.3 😱 I, however, detect a lot of salt and it makes me feel physically ill… it upsets my stomach. I definitely cannot be objective 😂😂. It disgusts me greatly. I’m going to have a shower straight away to see if I can get rid of it.

I love the aroma but would never pay that price for something that lasts literally ten minutes on the skin. It is a unique and beautiful fragrance that transports you to a house by the sea on a windy, cold day, looking out over a cliff, or reading a book on the sofa with a blanket. I thought it would be one of my favourites, but due to the longevity, it’s impossible. I don’t understand how they get so much hype when there are scents from the brand that are much longer-lasting.
I bought this based on the reviews. On my skin, it hasn’t lasted more than three hours, and throughout that time, it has smelled like ‘a grandmother’s drawer with cloth handkerchiefs and mothballs’. It’s not a scent I dislike as it reminds me of childhood, but for the price, I didn’t expect such short longevity or that particular smell.
My first niche perfume and already a classic. An exquisite blend of salt and a shy citrus at the beginning that settles with the sage and musk. A simple composition that works perfectly. Like almost all Jo Malone fragrances, the longevity is scarce but the scent is delightful. A must-have jewel for personal and intimate use. Completely unisex and suitable for all seasons, although for me it evokes memories of a cold summer, a morning near the sea with a cloudy sky. Perfect for spring, summer and the first days of autumn.
The scent is special and magical. I feel clean, comfortable and at peace. Salt and sage predominate, very natural and real notes. It feels realistic regarding what its name evokes; I haven’t heard anything like it. On clothes it lasts about six hours, on skin barely two to three hours. The price is high for the performance, but if you want to feel clean and at peace as with the serenity of the sea and the price isn’t a problem, it may be worth it. 17/12/25 Update: I love this perfume and used to wear it very quickly because in my country it’s hard to get, using it for special occasions. I’ve noticed the scent has transformed; now the opening is much more alcoholic. I bought it early this year, so I haven’t had it for long. I think due to its composition it’s not worth keeping it for too long or you lose all its magic.
A deliciously salty and marine aroma, very aromatic with a citrus touch. It’s clean and refreshing; the name ‘wood’ doesn’t suit it as there’s no wood anywhere to be found. For a niche brand, it’s wearable and pleasant, but like almost all Jo Malone scents, the longevity is terrible. I know many people feel the same. Better to buy a good dupe from an independent brand that specialises in that.
Very curious and supremely comfortable. I’m already thinking of buying the larger bottle. How funny that it makes me drool… could it be?
How strange, it smells like Diptyque’s Duelle despite not sharing any notes. I’ll have to investigate why they are so similar. I’ve really liked it.
