A few days ago I visited a new perfumery and tried this brand for the first time. I was impressed by the quality, even though I’m not an unconditional fan of niche houses. The rose predominates over the oud, although the latter is clearly perceptible, and the praline touch has nothing to do with the bomb-on trends of recent years. Many would say it’s a lady’s or granny’s perfume (what good taste they have), and according to popular belief, it could be. It’s soapy yet impactful, delicately potent. It doesn’t lean more to one side than the other—an expression I dislike using—but it is true that for me it’s ideal for both men and women. I imagine wearing it on a lovable person at a relaxed dinner with friends on a cold winter night by the fireplace. Really pleasant.
A few days ago, while walking through my city, I stumbled upon a new perfumery and tried a scent from this brand for the first time. I was impressed by the quality, although I’m not a die-hard fan of niche houses. The rose predominates over the oud, though the latter is clearly noticeable; the praline note has nothing to do with those trendy bonbons. Many would say it’s a lady’s or grandmother’s perfume (what good taste they have), and according to popular belief, it could be. It’s soapy yet impactful, delicately punchy. It doesn’t lean one way or the other—a phrase I dislike—but it is ideal for men or women. I imagine a lovable figure at a relaxed dinner with friends, or a cold winter night by the fireside. Truly pleasant.
The rose is beautiful but not cloying. The oud is bright and holds a slight edge, yet it remains balanced with the rose, giving it a mysterious, carnal, and sensual character. It’s a cologne with perfume-level longevity and quite good projection. The clove is very subtle, adding a spicy aura. I didn’t notice the praline with much potency, but I think it’s fine; perhaps that note gives the rose a tremendous, greedy, and sensual sweetness.
I love it. What I perceive is a dominant, very noble rose, a hint of praline, and a touch of oud. The longevity is surprisingly strong for a cologne. I’m curious to try it in summer; they say this Jo Malone scent is a huge hit in warm countries. There must be a reason for that, right?
On my skin, it feels like a lighter, easier-to-wear version of Lancôme’s Oud Bouquet: boozy roses, blotchy praline, and a touch of oud. It has a sensual edge but not much; it seems very comfortable for winter. Longevity is short, perhaps lasting no more than five hours in cold weather, and the trail is moderate, so it rarely bothers anyone.
A fantastic cologne, very elegant. It’s a simple yet harmonious blend where oud wood takes the lead, letting the rose shine in the background. Although the opening has a heavy trail, it softens quickly and doesn’t become overpowering. I’d recommend it for a special dinner with a glass of wine.
I didn’t like it. I felt the rose over the wood was too much and it felt suffocating. Despite other reviews, it still smells on me after a shower and 24 hours; it’s very persistent. I sprayed it on a suede bracelet and now it won’t come off. I’d prefer the Bergamot & Oud unisex a thousand times. But to each their own.
I know Jo Malone fragrances are a bit pricier than they should be; I’ve tried three and adored them, but when my last bottle ran out, I sought something more affordable. I was eager to try Velvet Rose & Oud and expected I wouldn’t like it, but it’s a gem! The velvety rose stands out at first, wrapped in the warmth of the oud, while the praline emerges after a few hours. The performance and trail are very decent. I don’t know what there is about these fragrances, even the simple ones, that drives me wild. There must be something similar at a better price; if anyone knows, please let me know 🙂
I know Jo Malone fragrances are expensive; I’ve owned three and enjoyed them, but last time I looked for more affordable options. I wanted Velvet Rose & Oud to disappoint me, but it’s a gem. The velvety rose stands out at first with the warmth of the oud, and the praline emerges after several hours. Performance is decent and the trail is well-behaved. I don’t know what there is about these fragrances that drives me mad despite their simplicity. There must be something similar for less; if anyone knows, I’d appreciate it.
The first thing I notice is a fairly sweet oud with a distant echo of rose and a hint of clove. After half an hour, the scent almost vanishes and transforms into a very subtle aquatic oud. I’m not sure if it’s my pH, but we haven’t done any chemistry, and although it’s not my favourite, it’s not a bad perfume.
Let me start from the end: it’s a perfume I absolutely love. At first, the rose was so intense and sweet that I thought it would be too much for my 24 years, but within two minutes the potency dropped and a more subtle rose emerged, wrapped in a woody halo from the oud and a spicy touch of clove. The dry-down is the best part: an exquisite rose surrounded by praline and a bit of oud, neither strident nor animal. If you hate the ‘dirty’ oud found in other perfumes, this one is for you. The longevity and projection are good; it’s noticeable but not annoying. I’ve tried it in winter and it shines for its warmth; it’s cosy and sensual, ideal for the evening, though with moderation it could be worn all year round.
I’ll start from the end: this is a perfume I absolutely love. A very easy and lovely blend of oud and roses. It is a minimalist aroma, those two ingredients combined harmoniously as if drawing a balance between East and West. Ethereal, warm, dark, yet luminous. It is timeless, Arab, elegant, and mysterious. I love this vision of fleshy, dark red, wild roses heated with oud wood, a latent scent that follows no trends or seasons.
A very easy and lovely blend of oud and roses. A minimalist aroma that combines both ingredients harmoniously, like a perfect balance between East and West. Ethereal, warm, dark, and luminous all at once. It’s timeless, elegant, and mysterious, with that vision of fleshy, dark red, wild roses heated by the embers with oud wood. A latent scent that doesn’t follow trends or seasons.
A friend recommended it to me for the notes, and that same evening I went to try it. It was like a glove, very elegant. I sense a dry rose that, mixed with the oud and praline, smells almost exactly like incense. I loved it; it is not heavy, goes well together, though I would not wear it to work. The longevity is good, around five or six hours, and it does not leave much of a trail.
It smells like incense.
I confess I am a fan of rose, violet, and oud blends. I bought this blind because my partner gave it to me; the Jo Malone sales assistant mistakenly put it in the vanilla box, but the surprise was good at first. However, after a while, the dislike set in: the sillage is poor and the longevity is terrible, not even reaching four hours. At 130 euros for 50 ml, it is a disaster. The aroma itself is good and the quality is noticeable, but paying that much, I deserve to feel it for longer. I do not recommend it; with this combination of ingredients, there are better deals, such as Mancera Black Prestige.
If you love sweet red roses bathed in oud with a touch of clove, this is yours. It smells strong and present, with those mature roses but without any old smell. It is elegant and the oud dominates the blend, balancing the sweetness of the praline. Ideal for going out at night; do not wear it to dinner as it may bother those sitting next to you. It works for men if they like sweet aromas, as the oud makes it sexy, dominant, and characterful. It is for those who have more than two, or even four, things in mind.
If you love sweet red roses with a hint of clove and oud, this is yours. It smells strong and elegant, featuring mature roses that don’t give an old-fashioned vibe. The oud dominates and balances the sweetness of the praline, perfect for going out at night. Be careful when dining; it can overwhelm those sitting nearby; better suited for enjoying alone. It works for men if they like sweet, characterful scents: sexy, dominant, and with a strong presence, for people who know what they want.
The house defines it as unisex, but in reality, it is eminently feminine. Roses, flowers, and oud, which becomes much more apparent once the latter dries down. It is elegant and mature, with good longevity but poor projection and sillage. Test before buying, and the price is excessive for what it offers.
It is the perfect rose over oud perfume. It smells of sweet black velvet roses with red fruits and a touch of oud. It is exquisite; I find it perfect and elegant, but… the longevity is non-existent. It only lasted an hour on my skin, but I insist that as an aroma it is a 10 out of 10.
If you are looking for a good alternative because it is very expensive, the inspiration from Divain is lovely. It has evolution, feels of very good quality, and has good fixation and longevity.
I had this perfume on my list due to the glowing reviews, and yesterday I finally tried it in-store… and wow, they were right. What beautiful roses, exquisite ones that truly look like fleshy, rich petals of an intense red rose freshly cut from the garden. It has a subtle spicy touch of clove, and the oud simply adds depth. I believe it is the most beautiful commercial rose perfume I have smelled to date.
I took it straight into my top three the moment I tried it in-store. Once I got home, I knew it was a must-have. To my nose, it’s unisex, though with a distinctly feminine body. The rose is potent and natural, blending perfectly with the oud. I don’t detect the praline or clove, but rather that indefinable spicy note. I wear it all year round, only at night in summer as something special to wear. I’ve received many compliments, especially from women. It lasts over eight hours on my skin and on clothes until I wash them. For me, it’s the best of Jo Malone. Tiziana Terenzi has a similar one, but Velvet Rose & Oud wins on longevity, projection, and performance. It’s a gem.
