  • Good heavens, Jo Malone, how you love to play hard to get. You’ve got me hooked, almost to the point where I find you annoying as a brand. This smells like hinoki when a potato smells like roses. The fragrance isn’t bad; it’s a somewhat clunky scent with incense hints, fresh and slightly spiced. A typical woody fragrance that doesn’t stand out for anything special. But the hinoki? I didn’t see or smell it. I’m lucky to have a relative in Tokyo and have smelled those wonderful trees, which are nowhere to be found here. Then there’s the poor longevity (like all Jo Malones), even though it’s a Cologne Intense. After two hours, it’s barely on the skin, begging for a reapplication. As time passed, I got flashes of Lush Karma, but without the orange. A fragrance that’s been around at Lush for ages and at a better price. Plus, Jo Malone raises prices again: a Cologne at perfume prices, around 190 euros (next year it’ll be 200). What’s wrong with you, Jo Malone? Do you want to be niche? It’s time to improve quality and longevity, hire less Tom Hardy and look after the product, which is still the same as 40 years ago. Honestly, quite disappointed with the brand and its recent launches. Since Jo Malone left and Estée Lauder bought them, they haven’t recovered. If you have 190 euros for a fragrance, there are many better options, both niche and designer. For me, if it hasn’t been clear, it’s not worth it. Best wishes 🙂

  • I was gifted this sample and wasn’t sure if it was more of a man’s scent… haha, so I asked my boyfriend to rate it (on me) and he gave it a 3 🤣🤣. He said: ‘It’s quirky, it has a lot of personality. It smells like an incense stick… It doesn’t suit me, too exotic for my taste.’ To be honest, I don’t dislike it; in fact, it would be much better if it were for men 😅.

  • The dry-down smells like my favourite Japanese incense, Nippon Kodo’s Zuiun in Aloe Wood, but more balsamic and elegant, keeping that same vibe. I see it as a huge success: it’s an exquisite perfume that’s becoming my signature. Its scent is a mystical embrace, like being in a Japanese temple surrounded by a resinous cypress forest with burning kiara incense sticks. It’s elegant, strange, green, and warm all at once. The longevity, ignoring Jo Malone’s bad reputation, is surprising: 6 to 8 hours on skin and days on clothes. I recommend it, although it’s not one to buy blindly; it has character and suits very specific tastes, so it won’t appeal to everyone. Few perfumes give me goosebumps, and this is one of them. A real treasure.
