Totally outside my comfort zone… and I have loved it. At first, it seems masculine: dark, deep, and spicy, but as it dries down, the vanilla sweetens the path and the florals emerge. In the end, it reminds me of Si by Armani, but with that woody touch from the oud. Excellent performance for its price!
Exquisite! It is identical to the Rose Oud by Alexandre J., but at one-third the price, offering top value for money. A beautiful combination of roses with a very friendly oud; a fresh, elegant, and formal duo, yet extremely versatile. If I did not know it was by Oscar de la Renta, I would swear it was niche. I loved it!
It bears a strong resemblance to a fragrance from the Lily Prune line by UdV. Although Fragantica compares it to the 5th Avenue Royale, it does not leave the same impression on me. The opening of the Royale smells of sweet aged wine or spiced fruit, whereas this one starts totally woody, with a mature rose and a spicy kick at the outset. A few minutes later, on my skin, the oud, patchouli, and rose stand out during those 6 to 8 hours of longevity. The Royale, by contrast, evolves and always retains that soft, warm suede note which this one lacks, although it is also warm due to the amber. I bought it blind because I can only find it online in my country; I thought I would love it, but after a week I did not feel comfortable with it. I find it heavy and intrusive, even when using a small amount. I considered using it only at night or for formal events, as I do not see it as very versatile. If I were to define it in one word, it is “dark”; the name suits it perfectly. Edit: I tested it in a cold, evening setting and now my perception is very positive. What a lovely rose and the amber! What a delight, warm and elegant. I insist it does not resemble the Elizabeth Arden Royale; in fact, the amber reminded me of Alien, so natural and embracing. It is not for daily wear, but I have discovered its charm and the best time to wear it, which makes me happy.
In a word: Wonderful! There is nothing more to say.
