Descripción
Seville a l'Aube by L'Artisan Parfumeur is an oriental floral fragrance for men and women. Launched in 2012, this composition was created by perfumer Bertrand Duchaufour. In its opening, the fragrance unfolds petit grain and olive blossom; the heart reveals a harmony of orange blossom, beeswax, lavender, tobacco, and jasmine; while the base settles on benzoin and frankincense.

Like it. Starts green and floral with petit grain and lavender, but the green notes soon recede to make way for orange blossom, sweetened by beeswax which becomes the star. Hints of jasmine and benzoin linger into a resinous dry-down. It’s too sweet for my taste, but excellent quality. A must-have for orange blossom lovers. Ideal for spring and autumn, day and night. Long-lasting longevity and a heavy sillage.

A good fragrance. The opening is probably the most realistic petit grain I have tried, with the orange leaf and branch very natural. Then comes the star: the orange blossom, slightly sticky like the bud, with that indolic ambience that reminds me more of Lutens’ FDO. The sweetness comes from the beeswax and benzoin, balanced by jasmine and olibanum. It has above-average performance and deserves to be heard.

Exquisite, sweet, and delicate, a pure sensory pleasure. However, as a Seville native with many Holy Week weeks in my soul, I must clarify that this is not an exact recreation of the Andalusian ritual. I adore it and it transports me back to my childhood thanks to that beeswax, even though real tapers no longer smell like this due to the cost. I don’t detect much lavender and the incense should be more prominent; something more apothegmatic would have been better. Also, it lacks an animal touch, like the horses parading through the historic centre. What a pity it is discontinued; applying it is like reviving a lost love.

A fleeting love story turned into liquid art by Duchaufour. In 2011, L’Artisan gifted us this masterpiece inspired by the Seville ‘madrugá’. It opens with hyper-realistic petit grain and fresh orange blossom that transport you straight to the streets of Hispalis. Then, beeswax and benzoin recreate the scent of candles melting under the morning sun. It just lacks a touch of incense, but the composition is so good I forgive any criticism. A discontinued gem that bottles the very essence of Seville.
