Vilhelm Oud Affair is that vital contrast between light and darkness, sweet honey wrapped in deep tobacco and a soft oud. It is that young man waiting on a bench after stealing a kiss from his dream girl, but she does not appear because he cannot erase his previous love. It is the daily encounter on the bus with a woman with black eyes and a sympathetic smile who shares the journey to work; there is only an exchange of glances, and when you decide to follow her, she is gone and the opportunity has passed forever. It is that reunion of lips at an airport, months apart but a love that maintains itself at a distance and meets again with more passion because the distance served to value its intensity. It is that sixty-year-old man, sunk in an armchair with a whisky in his hand, watching a rainy autumn sunset and yellow letters he never sent to the woman who perhaps could have shared his life, but simply did not. Oud Affair is a pure contrast of experiences where found and lost loves get confused in the daily whirlpool, a mixture of realised and stormy romances, because just as there is the passionate gaze of someone who keeps kissing you, there is also the sweet and stinging pain of the dreamed love that was not. It is a wonderful contrast of feelings that, although sometimes they hurt, remind us how beautiful it is to feel. It is as delicious and mysterious as love, even if it is just a perfume full of secrets. I discovered it three years ago, it was a fleeting encounter that I enjoyed but did not fully understand; today, after this olfactory journey, I would not only understand it, but I would surely do it. A greeting to all.

Vilhelm’s Oud Affair is that vital contrast between light and darkness, sweet honey wrapped in deep tobacco and soft oud. It’s the young man waiting by the bank after stealing a kiss from his dream girl, only for her not to appear because she can’t erase her former love from her heart. It’s the daily encounter on the bus with that woman with dark eyes and a kind smile, where there’s just an exchange of glances until you decide to follow her and discover she’s gone and the chance has passed. It’s the reunion at an airport after months, where distance served to value the intensity of love. It’s the sixty-year-old man in an armchair, gaze lost, holding a whisky in front of a rainy sunset, looking at yellow letters he never sent to the woman who perhaps could have shared his life. It’s pure contrast of experiences where found and lost loves blur in the daily whirlwind, mixing concrete moments with stormy romances. It’s as delicious and mysterious as love itself, full of secrets. I discovered it three years ago; it was a fleeting encounter I enjoyed but didn’t understand until today, after this olfactory journey. A hug to everyone.

  • Vilhelm Oud Vilhelm smells of old wood and a powdery, urinous touch at the onset, with spiced saffron and zero iodine. It is warm, animalic due to the civet and moderately sweet vanilla, with a musky, spongy, slightly acidic base. It feels masculine or suitable for a woman with character, with a spicy heat that burns a little on the skin and a rich, spongy tobacco, nothing like cigarettes. Be careful with your health! But if you are looking for non-smoking tobacco notes, this is the answer. On the skin, it smells like beeswax candles or propolis, nothing like paraffin. The urinal note is more noticeable in winter, like the smoke from a fire or the unwashed body of a middle-class person who didn’t shower. Perhaps his father liked oud or simply smelled of a dirty house. It’s like coming from a family with economic security, but just above the school average where I was with cheap, generic perfumes. Today in autumn, with the rain, the beeswax candle note appears for the first time. Like other Wilhelms, it starts bright and rich, then calms down and diffuses silently. Now that I have experience, it no longer feels heavy. The brand’s DNA is evident: honey and vanilla sweetness, with an animal touch from the honey and a spicy tobacco and ginger note (though I don’t notice it this time). The tobacco is spongy, sophisticated, but with almost no musk anywhere, except the oud, which is brilliant. It is probably resin and animal oil, not natural, but if it is, I smile at the perfumery. • The Oud Affair by Vilhelm smells slightly of urine and dust, with a spiced saffron note at the start, warm and specific. You should try it before buying unless you are a sophisticated gourmand. It has that animal warmth of civet and oud oil, perhaps with moderately sweet vanilla, musky and fluffy, with bitterness and acidity. It is more masculine or for a woman of a specific weight. It burns a bit on the skin, with a distinctive fluffy, expensive tobacco note, not cigarettes. I do not recommend smoking; it is bad for your health and unpleasant for others! Better to opt for tobacco-flair analogues. If you smell it on the skin, it is truly wax candles, like propolis or beeswax, without paraffin. Regarding the urine note, I tested it in winter and it emitted a lot of smoke, like an unwashed body; I recall a schoolmate who smelled like that. Perhaps his father liked oud or simply did not wash properly and the house was dirty. Something like coming from a financially secure family, but only slightly above the average where I was in primary school. I am just thinking, they did not sell perfumes like that there, only cheap and generic ones. If there was perfume, it was from a big city, but judging by the schoolmate, he did not wash after all. Fleur noble like a menagerie, riders in reality. Today in this autumn rain, it gave a wax candle for the first time. Like probably all Vilhelms, it is bright and rich at the start, then settles in silence and diffuses slate. It was heavy for me then, now it is totally normal with experience. The brand’s DNA and mannerisms are clearly visible. The sweetness comes from honey and vanilla, the honey adds an animal touch. The spice is due to tobacco and ginger, although last time I did not perceive it as such. The tobacco is also fluffy, speaking between us to all sophisticated noses, but do not forget that often without musk almost nowhere, it can simply be silent in the pyramid. The oud, of course, is great here! I am not sure if it is natural Arabic oil, probably more due to animal and fatty resins, but if it is natural oil, a nice smile to perfumery.
