  I tried Armaf’s Precieux I at a friend’s house and it was a total hit. It’s the DNA of Aventus but darker and more robust, with earthy, resinous notes and a more prominent patchouli. It reminded me of the early batches of Club de Nuit Intense, but with far better quality. The only drawback is the price: 55ml for around $50 is out of my budget, especially when there are other options with that Aventus DNA but with distinct personalities. At this stage, ‘Aventus’ should be a family of fragrances, like what happened with Fougera. I looked for something more affordable and found this Venti Absolu. I liked it, though it doesn’t resemble the Precieux as much; here there is more resin, noticeable pink pepper, ripe pineapple, moderate sweetness, and an evident oakmoss that doesn’t overdo it. It has the sparkle and push of ambroxan, with notable longevity. I don’t find it very versatile within the DNA; it shines more at night and in cold weather. It seems elegant and masculine, and perhaps younger audiences might find it too mature. The price is excellent for the quality offered, and it made me want to try another variant from the brand, Night Club. Maybe this one has what I’m looking for (more patchouli and smokier). I bought it, wore it for a few days in the heat, and let it oxidise for weeks; now it’s much better. I’ll reserve it for informal outings and cooler days or evenings.
